Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 30: Want to Tear Off Her Mask
The old house was a small outbuilding deep in the garden of the Reed Villa, a place used for storing junk.
But ever since she turned ten, it had become her solitary confinement.
Mainly to lock her up.
Because the year she turned ten, her parents brought Sunny Reed home.
Sunny Reed was two years older than her. Her mother said to her, "Chloe, haven’t you always wanted a sister? How would you like to have Sunny as your big sister from now on?"
She was so happy she nodded vigorously. "Yes!"
Then, she gave all of her favorite toys to Sunny Reed and pulled her along to play.
She had always envied others who had sisters, and now she had one too.
But a few days later, Sunny Reed was on the swings. When she went over, wanting to play too, Sunny suddenly fell off.
Her father happened to be passing by, and Sunny Reed immediately started crying. "My sister didn’t mean to... I’m not hurt..."
Her father immediately scolded her.
But she was innocent! She hadn’t pushed Sunny Reed!
Then, a few days after that, she and Sunny Reed were walking down the stairs, with Sunny in front and her behind.
Suddenly, Sunny Reed tumbled down the stairs.
She just stood on the stairs, dumbfounded.
Sunny Reed looked up at her, crying. "Sister, why did you push me? It hurts so much... Waaah..."
And so, she was locked in the dark room.
Her father and mother came in turns to punish her.
It was the first time her father had ever hit her.
She had been so wronged!
She hadn’t pushed Sunny Reed!
She refused to confess, so she was locked in the dark room for three days. By the time she was let out, she was so hungry she could barely see.
From that moment on, she realized Sunny Reed was a pathological liar and stopped playing with her.
After that, she found herself locked in the dark room more and more often.
And her parents paid more and more attention to Sunny Reed.
Nowadays, she could even find a comfortable spot in the old house to lie down.
This time, too, it was because of Sunny Reed.
Chloe Reed lifted her gaze to the window, where a square pane of glass framed the sky outside.
Her eyes were filled with misery and desolation.
Ever since she was ten, whenever Sunny Reed told a lie, she would lash out, trying to rip away the disguise and force her parents to see Sunny’s true colors.
Clearly, she had failed.
And now, even the man she loved had taken Sunny Reed’s side.
As Chloe Reed’s thoughts ran wild, she drifted into a hazy sleep.
She didn’t know how much time had passed, but an icy touch to her cheek made her shiver and her eyes fly open.
Walker Grant was pressing an ice pack to her cheek.
Chloe Reed shoved him away and sat up, her expression cold. "Stop the hypocrisy. Don’t you find this disgusting?"
Walker Grant’s brows furrowed. The ice in the pack was melting in his hand. Seeing the stubbornness in her eyes, he sighed helplessly. "Chloe, you shouldn’t have hit her."
"Hah!"
Chloe Reed scoffed. "Not only did I hit her, but the next time I see her, I’ll give her a few more slaps. If your heart aches for her so much, then file for divorce."
She lifted her chin defiantly. "Then we’ll be done. You can protect her openly, and I won’t even have the chance to bully her if I wanted to."
"My heart doesn’t ache for her," Walker Grant said in a low voice. "It aches for you. You hit her, and you’re the one who ends up locked in here. Was it worth it?"
Chloe Reed’s eyelashes trembled violently. The sense of being wronged was about to overwhelm her, but she forced herself to look indifferent.
"I’m used to it."
She looked up at him. "Walker Grant, if your heart really aches for me, then divorce me."
