Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 309: Don’t Kneel to Her
"Ha!"
Hearing this, Chloe Reed couldn’t help but laugh.
She gave Autumn Linton a mocking look. "What if Dad had an ex-girlfriend who was always popping up, keeping tabs on your life together? Imagine she claimed she wouldn’t interfere, that she just wanted to see if you were happy. What would you think then?"
Autumn Linton frowned. "How is that the same? Your father and I were each other’s first love."
But Chloe Reed just scoffed softly and said no more.
The old madam looked at Autumn Linton calmly. "The truth is, you haven’t realized your mistake at all. Even now, you still think I’m the one hoarding the memento of your love, that I’m the one in the wrong."
Autumn Linton instinctively shook her head. "No, Mom, that’s not what I was thinking."
But in the next breath, she said, "Mom, since you already know it doesn’t belong to you, why can’t you just give it to me?"
Chloe chimed in, "Is one half of your brain fighting the other?"
Autumn Linton was rendered speechless.
The old madam averted her gaze. "Since you aren’t truly sorry, you should just leave. Our relationship as mother and daughter has always been distant. There’s no need for us to see each other again."
Autumn Linton instinctively stepped forward. "Mom..."
Chloe quickly moved to block her, her voice stern. "Didn’t you hear what my grandmother said? Leave!"
"Chloe, that’s my mother!" Autumn Linton cried, growing frantic.
But Chloe turned to Charles Reed and asked mockingly, "Is this your idea of taking a stand?"
Charles Reed grabbed Autumn Linton and snapped, "Stop making a scene! Do you want the Reed Group to go bankrupt?" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Autumn Linton immediately stopped struggling and making a fuss. Charles Reed led her away, but she was clearly resentful.
The door to the hospital room opened, revealing a new figure in the doorway.
"Dad, Mom, I heard what’s happening with the family. It’s all my fault. I’m the one who dragged you into this. I’ve come to apologize to my sister. As long as she stops targeting the Reed Group, I’ll do anything she asks."
The person in the doorway was none other than Sunny Reed.
She immediately took all the blame. The moment she saw Chloe Reed, she dropped to her knees with a thud.
"Sister, please, can you stop going after the Reed Group? You’re an heiress of the Reed Group—it’s your inheritance too! It’s the business Mom and Dad worked so hard to build. If you destroy it, what will happen to them?"
She looked at Chloe Reed with a pleading expression, humbling herself completely.
The sight was like a knife to Autumn Linton’s heart.
She yanked Sunny to her feet. "Why are you kneeling to her? She treats her own parents worse than an animal! She’ll get what’s coming to her! Sunny, none of this has anything to do with you. You don’t have to humiliate yourself like this!"
Charles Reed’s face was grim as he added, "Sunny, go home. This doesn’t concern you."
Tears streaming down her face, Sunny shook her head. "How could it have nothing to do with me? My sister has always misunderstood me. If I just admit I’m wrong, if I can just make her happy, then none of this would be happening. Dad, Mom, you’ve been so good to me, but my arrival caused my sister to become so resentful. I’m willing to take responsibility for that."
She broke free from Autumn Linton’s grasp and knelt before Chloe Reed once more, even beginning to kowtow.
THUD. THUD. THUD.
"Sister, I’m begging you! Please, be merciful! Stop going after the Reed Group, I’m begging you..."
"Sunny, get up!"
Autumn Linton was going insane; she couldn’t bear to see Sunny degrading herself like this!
