Daniel Hayes also gave her a strange look. "Miss Reed, do you have some kind of special identity? Otherwise, why would people from abroad want you killed?"

Chloe Reed shook her head with a wry smile. "I don’t. I’m the daughter of Charles Reed and Autumn Linton. I’ve had a DNA test done."

Confusion also appeared on Daniel Hayes’s rugged face. He scratched his head. "Well, that’s really strange."

"..."

「At another hospital.」

Dylan Finch reported his findings to Walker Grant.

"Miles Hawthorne?"

Walker Grant murmured the name, recalling how Chloe Reed had used Miles Hawthorne to put pressure on Doctor William.

Miles Hawthorne’s background was simple, but he had been abroad for many years.

He looked at Dylan Finch and said in a cold tone, "Look into what he did during his years abroad."

"Yes."

Dylan Finch nodded but hesitated before asking, "Mr. Grant, could it be a misunderstanding? I looked into it. Miles Hawthorne’s family is in that nursing home."

But Walker Grant said calmly, "There aren’t that many coincidences in this world."

Besides, he couldn’t afford to overlook a single point of suspicion.

’Because those unknown people wanted Chloe Reed dead!’

’He would never allow that to happen.’

Dylan Finch nodded. "Yes."

He turned and left the hospital room. Walker Grant took out his phone and dialed Chloe Reed’s number.

"We’re sorry, the number you have dialed is currently busy..."

Hearing the cold, automated voice on the other end, a vein in Walker Grant’s temple throbbed.

’She blocked me.’

He gripped his phone, his expression dark, but he eventually managed to compose himself.

A moment later, his phone rang. Without even looking at the caller ID, he answered immediately. "Hello? Chloe."

"Walker, it’s me."

But to his surprise, the person on the other end was Sunny Reed.

Walker Grant’s tone instantly cooled. "What is it, Sister-in-law?"

Sunny Reed’s voice was heavy. "Will my company be able to stay open?"

Walker Grant said flatly, "Yes. I’ll inject the capital and send my own people to manage it. Once you can run it independently, my team will pull out."

But Sunny Reed gave a bitter laugh. "Chloe is already targeting the Reed Group. She’s coming after me. Will she come after you next? I don’t want to see you two at odds like this. You shouldn’t fund it. Just let me take Noah and leave."

"Impossible."

Walker Grant’s tone was firm. "Noah must stay with the Grant family. If you want to leave, you can."

The words caught in Sunny Reed’s throat.

Her breath hitched. "Walker, do you really not care who it was that saved you back then?"

Walker Grant said calmly, "I’ve been satisfying every request you’ve made. Sister-in-law, shouldn’t my debt to you be repaid by now?"

Sunny Reed fell silent, finally murmuring, "I understand. I’ll run the company properly."

She had accepted his offer.

As if resigning herself to fate.

"If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up." Without waiting for Sunny Reed to reply, Walker Grant ended the call.

’Chloe Reed targeting him?’

’Hasn’t she been targeting me all along?’

’It was all just a misunderstanding. She’s the one who’s been obstinately holding onto it.’

He pinched the bridge of his nose and looked at his phone—at her name, at their photo together. Longing surged in his eyes.

"..."

After covering the first matter, Daniel Hayes moved on to the second.

"I looked into Sunny Reed’s parents. They knew your parents, and it seems they were very close." Daniel Hayes scratched his head. "But for some reason, there’s less and less information about them. Maybe only your parents and Sunny Reed’s maternal grandmother know what really happened."
