Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 319: Grandfather’s Illegitimate Daughter?
"Not bad!"
Miles Hawthorne praised her sincerely. "You don’t need to worry about Sunny Reed anymore. So all that’s left is the divorce, then?"
"Mhm." Chloe Reed nodded. "Once this is all settled, I’ll be completely free."
The look in Miles Hawthorne’s eyes deepened, and the curve of his lips grew more pronounced. He said, "I’ll help you get that freedom."
Chloe Reed curved her lips into a small smile.
Just then, her phone vibrated. She took it out and saw a message from Daniel Hayes.
At the same time, there was another message from an unknown number.
Daniel Hayes: [Miss Reed, I have a few leads on Sunny Reed’s parents. Should we discuss this in person?]
--[Be careful of Miles Hawthorne. He’s not as simple as he seems.]
Chloe Reed deleted the second message and replied to Daniel Hayes with a simple "Okay."
Then, she looked at Miles Hawthorne and said, "Something’s come up. I have to go."
"Okay, I’m leaving too."
Miles Hawthorne gave a slight nod.
The two of them left the hospital’s back garden. Miles Hawthorne drove away, while Chloe Reed called Daniel Hayes.
Daniel Hayes was in his car at that moment. Chloe Reed walked over, pulled open the passenger side door, and got in.
Daniel Hayes handed her a file and said, "Miss Reed, take a look."
After speaking, he got out of the car to have a smoke and keep an eye out for anyone approaching.
Chloe Reed opened the file and quickly scanned the documents inside.
Sunny Reed’s mother was named Eleanor Bowman, and her father was Kevin Sutton.
The file also contained a photograph of Eleanor Bowman and Autumn Linton together. The two young women were beaming at the camera, looking very close.
Eleanor Bowman grew up in Rancine and was childhood sweethearts with Kevin Sutton. The two of them had gone to school together their entire lives.
They made their relationship official in college and later went abroad together.
The information was sparse. Other than the photograph proving Eleanor Bowman and Autumn Linton knew each other, there was nothing else.
Chloe Reed stared at the scant information, her elegant brows furrowing in thought.
’Just friends?’
’Aunt Bowman...’
’Eleanor Bowman...’
’Why would Sunny Reed’s mother have the same surname as my maternal grandmother?’
Chloe Reed’s pupils constricted. A wild idea suddenly surfaced in her mind.
’Could it be... Eleanor Bowman is my grandfather’s child?’
’My grandfather had an affair while he was married?!’
’That would explain why Autumn Linton knew Eleanor Bowman’s mother when she was very young, and why they were so close later on.’
’This was a deliberate approach!’
’I don’t know what kind of spell Eleanor Bowman’s mother cast on Autumn Linton to make her so dependent and utterly devoted.’
’But none of that is very important right now.’
’What’s important is, why can’t we find any information on Eleanor Bowman and her husband after they went abroad?’
’Their lives after that point were as if they had vanished from the face of the earth.’
’Someone erased their tracks, scrubbing them completely clean.’
Chloe Reed let out a slow, heavy breath.
She sent a message to Daniel Hayes, telling him to come back.
Daniel Hayes quickly opened the driver’s side door, scratched his head, and said, "My guys could only find this much. These two are really a mystery."
Chloe Reed nodded. "They are. Let’s take it slow. What about the other matter? How’s the investigation into what happened during the earthquake over eight years ago?"
"Oh, right, I was just about to tell you about that." Daniel Hayes smacked his forehead. "Look at me, I can’t believe I forgot. My apologies, Miss Reed."
The look in Chloe Reed’s eyes turned serious. "Go on."
