Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 37: A Pair of Scumbags
Chloe Reed’s eyes grew even redder. "Let go of me!"
Walker Grant had already sat up, his sharp, dark eyes fixed on her. "Stop this madness, and I’ll let go."
"Heh..."
Chloe Reed laughed, but her eyes only grew redder. She wrenched her hand free. "Walker Grant, I was so fucking blind. How could I have ever fallen in love with you?"
Walker Grant’s expression darkened. She had barged in, spouting nonsense and trying to start a fight. Now, she was acting as if she regretted ever loving him. It all made him deeply uncomfortable.
"If you have a problem, take it out on me. Don’t resort to hitting people," he said, his voice low.
Chloe Reed raised her hand and slapped him across the face.
"Walker!"
Sunny Reed cried out in alarm. She rushed forward and stared at Chloe Reed in disbelief. "Chloe, why did you hit him? What did he do wrong?"
"A pair of bastards."
Chloe Reed spat, taking a step back. "Walker Grant, I’m filing for divorce. The very idea of being married to someone like you makes me sick to my stomach!"
She wiped at her eyes, then turned and walked away.
"Chloe Reed!"
Walker Grant tried to get out of bed to grab her, but he was still too weak. He staggered, nearly collapsing.
Sunny Reed quickly steadied him. "Walker, don’t go after her. Your health is more important. I’ll go explain things to her. She must have misunderstood something."
A wave of dizziness washed over Walker, and he sat on the edge of the hospital bed to steady himself. "Sunny, don’t go."
But Sunny Reed was frantic. "But she’s going to file for divorce! How can that be okay?"
A vein throbbed in Walker’s temple. He squeezed his eyes shut, his voice deepening. "No one will dare to take her case. To take it would be to declare themselves an enemy of Walker Grant."
Upon hearing this, a dark glint flashed in Sunny Reed’s eyes, though it vanished in an instant.
She let out a sigh of relief. "As long as you don’t get divorced, that’s what matters. If you two split up because of me, I’d never be able to forgive myself."
Walker said, "Sunny, you should go back for now. Noah still needs you."
"Okay. You get some rest," Sunny Reed said with a nod, then turned and left.
Walker Grant called his special assistant and gave an order: no one was to accept Chloe Reed’s divorce case.
...
Chloe Reed went to a law firm, but she was turned down the moment the lawyer learned she wanted to sue Walker Grant for divorce.
Undeterred, she went to several other firms, but the result was always the same.
She stood on the street, her shoulders slumped as if crushed under the weight of a mountain. The anguish was so immense that she couldn’t even shed a tear.
Only Walker Grant could make so many law firms reject her simultaneously.
Chloe Reed clutched at the front of her shirt, a sharp pain shooting through her as if a knife were slicing into her heart.
’How could he do this to me?’
’Even if our eight years together meant nothing, I saved his life eight years ago!’
Her eyes grew vacant, and she wandered the streets like a zombie. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"HONK!"
The piercing blare of a horn sounded as a silver-gray Maybach screeched to a halt beside her.
The driver opened his door. "Hey, Miss, why don’t you watch where you’re going?"
Only then did Chloe Reed realize she had walked into the middle of the road. She took a step back, her face pale. "Sorry."
Just then, the Maybach’s rear window rolled down. "Chloe Reed? Is that you?"
Confusion flickered in Chloe Reed’s eyes. "And you are?"
The car door opened and a tall man stepped out, a hint of a smile on his face. "It’s me, Miles Hawthorne. You don’t remember me? I’m a friend of Walker’s. I was the one who delivered your love letter to him back in the day. Have you forgotten?"
