Chloe Reed withdrew her probing gaze and pushed down the doubts welling up inside her.

As it was getting late, they paid the bill and went their separate ways.

When Chloe Reed returned to the car, Daniel Hayes was sitting in the driver’s seat. He asked, "Miss Reed, did you find out anything?"

Chloe shook her head. "He didn’t seem like he was faking it. He shouldn’t have any reason to stop my divorce."

Daniel Hayes said, "Then it could be Preston Vance."

"Mm."

Chloe Reed nodded, deciding to find an opportunity to test Preston Vance’s stance.

The car entered the underground parking garage of the Maplewood Gardens Community.

As Chloe Reed opened the door to get out, someone walked up and grabbed her wrist.

Startled, she looked up and saw it was Walker Grant.

Her fine brows furrowed, and she struggled instinctively. "What are you doing? Let go of me!"

Daniel Hayes immediately rushed forward to intervene. "Hey, what do you think you’re doing?"

Walker Grant swept a cool gaze over Daniel Hayes. Daniel shivered involuntarily but pretended not to notice the look in his eyes and continued to block him.

’Are you kidding me?!’

’If I just turn and walk away now, can I still keep my job with Chloe Reed?’

’At that point, it won’t just be Chloe Reed. That kid Zachary Bowman will rip me a new one too!’

Walker Grant ignored Daniel Hayes and said to Chloe Reed in a low voice, "Get in my car. I want to talk to you about the nannies. I’ll let you go when we’re done."

Chloe Reed paused. She remembered the files he’d sent her.

After a moment’s thought, she looked at Daniel Hayes and said, "Just wait out here."

Daniel Hayes nodded. "You got it."

Walker Grant released her hand and walked ahead.

Chloe rubbed her wrist. The warmth of his fingertips seemed to linger on her skin.

It was even dimmer inside the car.

She asked, "Do you have any leads?"

Walker Grant handed her a file. "The one surveilling you is Miles Hawthorne. The one obstructing you is Preston Vance."

She gave him a suspicious look. "How do you know all this in such detail?"

Walker Grant stared at her, his dark, almond-shaped eyes intense. "Do you trust me?"

Chloe pressed her rosy lips together.

Walker Grant said, "Your documents should be ready tomorrow. When they are, you can make a big show of it on social media, announcing that you’re going to pick up your divorce certificate. If what happened last time happens again, then we’ll know for sure it’s Preston Vance."

He let out a soft, derisive laugh. "He’s not a simple man. I kept telling you to stay away from him, but now it looks like I should be thanking him?"

Chloe Reed clutched the file, pushed open the car door, and tossed out a parting shot, "I have no idea what you’re talking about."

And then she left.

Daniel Hayes had been on edge the whole time. When he saw her get out so soon, he breathed a sigh of relief. "Miss Reed, he didn’t give you any trouble, did he?"

"No." Chloe shook her head.

Daniel Hayes broke into a grin. "That’s good."

’What a huge relief!’

’Thank goodness Walker Grant didn’t give Chloe any trouble. What would I have done otherwise?’

’Being stuck between those two is so tough!’

Back home, Chloe first took a shower. Then she opened the file. No wonder Walker Grant knew so much. His investigation was incredibly detailed.

It contained the times and locations where the two nannies’ children met with company executives, and even included surveillance photos. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

There were also detailed transaction records for all of their various accounts.

Chloe set the file aside and stared at the ceiling, lost in thought.
