Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 380: Does a Certificate Really Matter?
The car pulled up to the Civil Affairs Bureau.
Chloe Reed got out, documents in hand, and spotted Walker Grant’s car parked a short distance away.
The car door opened, and a tall, well-built man stepped out. He wore a black suit with no tie, giving him a roguish air.
He glanced at her, his dark, almond-shaped eyes holding her gaze for a long moment before he turned and headed into the Civil Affairs Bureau.
Chloe Reed followed him.
This time, things were going smoothly.
But when they reached the entrance, they found the Civil Affairs Bureau was closed.
Chloe Reed stood there, stunned.
Walker Grant raised an eyebrow, then glanced at his phone and chuckled.
"It’s Saturday."
Chloe Reed was speechless.
She tilted her head back to look at the blue sky, suddenly feeling that everything she had done was utterly ridiculous.
She’d even posted on her social media feed, wondering the whole way here why things had been suspiciously quiet. ’Was I wrong?’
’Maybe the ones trying to stop my divorce aren’t Preston Vance and Miles Hawthorne, but someone else entirely.’
But in the end, it was just... Saturday!
Chloe Reed waved a dismissive hand. "I’ll be back on Monday."
’I refuse to believe this divorce is impossible!’
"Chloe Reed."
But the man behind her called out her name.
She stopped in her tracks but didn’t turn around. Her heart sank for some reason. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
"Our current situation isn’t any different from being divorced," Walker Grant said, his eyes fixed on her slender back as a gentle breeze stirred a few strands of her hair.
"Why care so much about a piece of paper?"
"I care."
Chloe Reed replied without a second thought. "Until I’ve completely severed ties with you, it feels like there’s an invisible rope around my neck, constricting me, suffocating me, making my life miserable."
The light in Walker Grant’s eyes dimmed. "Our marriage... makes you miserable?"
"Shouldn’t I be miserable?" Chloe Reed kept her gaze fixed ahead, her voice laced with ridicule. "Walker Grant, after everything that’s happened, after all the injustices I’ve suffered, don’t you think I have every right to be miserable?"
Walker Grant grunted softly in acknowledgment. "Perhaps it was a mistake from the very beginning."
Chloe Reed’s long lashes fluttered. She didn’t answer him, simply continuing on her way.
Once she was in her car, she let out a heavy sigh.
She took out her phone and saw a red dot indicating a new notification on her social media feed.
She tapped on it and saw comments from Preston Vance and Miles Hawthorne.
Preston Vance: [The Civil Affairs Bureau is closed today.]
Miles Hawthorne: [Chloe, are you so obsessed with this divorce you’ve lost your mind? Didn’t you even check the date?]
Chloe Reed was speechless.
She tossed her phone aside and drove off.
Walker Grant watched her car disappear into the distance before looking away and getting into his own.
Just then, his phone rang. He pulled it out and saw it was a call from Dylan Finch.
"Hello?"
Dylan Finch’s voice came over the line. "Mr. Grant, I’ve found something regarding the Young Madam’s parents."
Walker Grant’s eyebrows lifted slightly. "You’re only finding this now?"
Dylan Finch was silent for a moment before replying, "Things have been piling up recently. I just came across it while organizing my files."
"How tough for you," Walker Grant said with a soft, sarcastic laugh.
Dylan Finch: "...I wouldn’t dare say so."
"Send me the file."
"Yes, sir."
An email arrived. Walker Grant opened it, and a thoughtful, intrigued expression slowly formed in his dark, almond-shaped eyes as he read.
’So that’s how it is.’
He had an excellent memory. He began to recall everything that had happened since he’d met Chloe and Sunny Reed.
