Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 387: Won’t Die for Now
"Okay, let’s go back," said Chloe Reed.
Daniel Hayes nodded and followed behind her.
...
Dylan Finch arrived at the hospital shortly after. Seeing Walker Grant’s pale face, he asked, "Mr. Grant, are you badly hurt?"
Walker Grant’s tone was flat. "I’m not dying anytime soon."
Dylan Finch couldn’t help but say, "But if this keeps up, you will be."
Walker Grant’s deep, cool eyes turned on him. "Are you looking forward to it?"
Dylan Finch chuckled. "No, no, just joking. I had my men catch one of them who didn’t get away. We checked his identity. He’s with The Osprey."
The Osprey was a notorious overseas mercenary organization.
They took on all sorts of missions.
As long as the price was right, they’d do anything.
Walker Grant’s eyes darkened. "Contact Lucas Shaw. Tell him to make sure The Osprey doesn’t accept any assassination contracts on Chloe Reed."
Dylan Finch nodded. "Yes, sir."
Then he added, "Mr. Shaw will probably make some outrageous demands again. Are you going to agree?"
Walker Grant closed his eyes. "Have him talk to me directly. I want to see what he could possibly demand."
Dylan Finch said, "Understood."
Walker Grant spoke again. "Who hired The Osprey? Who’s the client?"
Dylan Finch looked troubled. "Mr. Grant, we might not be able to find that out. It’s an ironclad rule. No one dares to reveal client information."
If they revealed client information, they’d be out of business.
But Walker Grant sneered. "Don’t they only care about money? Invite The Osprey’s leader to Breyburn."
"Will do."
...
On the way back, Chloe Reed was racking her brain, trying to figure out how to tell her grandmother about what had happened.
’If I tell her about this, then what about the other incidents?’
’Grandma is so sharp; she must have sensed something is wrong.’
Chloe Reed couldn’t help but sigh.
Daniel Hayes glanced at her and asked, "Miss Reed, what’s wrong?"
Chloe Reed said, "I’m trying to figure out how to lie to my grandma."
Daniel Hayes was taken aback. "Are you afraid she’ll worry?"
"Yes," Chloe Reed nodded. "She’s getting on in years. Hearing about this would definitely scare her."
But Daniel Hayes grinned. "Miss Reed, you may not know your grandmother very well. She’s not that easily frightened."
Chloe Reed paused. "Really?"
Daniel Hayes nodded. "Last time, when she was taken, she was very calm. It was like she wasn’t afraid of what might happen at all."
Chloe Reed thought for a moment. It seemed that was true.
Daniel Hayes said, "If you’re really worried, just say you hit Walker Grant with your car, so you have to take care of him for a while."
"That’s a great idea." Chloe Reed’s eyes lit up. "Let’s go with that!"
Daniel Hayes broke into a broad, knowing grin.
When she got back, Chloe Reed used that exact excuse. As expected, her grandmother wasn’t suspicious and even asked, "Was it serious?"
Chloe Reed shook her head. "Not really. It’s just a fracture. He needs to rest for a while."
Her grandmother hummed in acknowledgment. "Then take good care of him. You were husband and wife, after all. No need to make it an ugly, bitter end."
Chloe Reed lowered her gaze slightly. "I know, Grandma."
She took a shower, changed, and was lying in bed when her phone buzzed. It was a text message.
She picked it up and read it, her brow immediately furrowing.
—[Don’t divorce Walker Grant. Once you lose your status as Mrs. Grant, you’ll die even faster!]
