Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 389: Chloe, You Are Our Only Daughter
Chloe Reed nodded from the side. "Yes, that’s right. You should listen to the doctor."
Walker Grant looked at them, a half-smile flickering in his sharp eyes as he asked, "So, how many days until I can take a shower?"
The doctor considered for a moment before saying, "About a week from now."
Walker Grant’s wound was healing nicely; he really would be able to shower in a week.
Walker Grant shot Chloe Reed a dark look, then nodded. "Fine. I’ll listen to the doctor."
Chloe Reed found it strange. ’He must be doing this just to mess with me.’
’How absurd,’ she thought.
’Why would he go out of his way to torment me?’
’I haven’t done anything to provoke him!’
After the doctor left, she said, "I’m heading out for a bit."
"Where are you going?" Walker Grant asked. "You’re in danger right now. Don’t go wandering off."
"To test Preston," Chloe Reed answered honestly. Last night’s text message had made her eager to test Preston Vance’s attitude.
Walker Grant’s eyes darkened. ’Preston... She calls him so intimately.’
He averted his gaze, his handsome face growing colder.
Chloe Reed turned and left, with Daniel Hayes following her.
She called Preston Vance. After three rings, the call connected.
"Chloe, what’s wrong?"
Chloe Reed said, "Preston, I’m free today. Shall we go see Annie York together? Do you have time?"
Preston Vance replied, "I have a meeting right now. It should be over in about an hour."
Chloe Reed said, "I’ll head over and meet you then."
"Sure."
Preston Vance readily agreed. "I’ll have my assistant wait for you on the first floor."
"No need. I’ll just walk around nearby. Just text me when you’re done," Chloe Reed said with a smile.
"Alright."
With the plan set, Chloe Reed headed directly for the area around the Vance Group.
The drive took nearly twenty minutes. Instead of wandering around, she found a random coffee shop and sat down.
She pondered how to test Preston Vance. Her thoughts drifted to last night’s text message, and the recent series of events gave her a headache.
She felt like she was lost in a fog, completely unable to see the path ahead.
Just then, her phone rang. She pulled it out and saw it was another call from Charles Reed.
She rejected the call immediately. A moment later, Charles Reed sent her a series of texts.
"Chloe, your mother is very sick this time. She keeps asking for you."
"Chloe, you are our only daughter. We’ve done wrong in the past, but we know our mistakes now. Please come see your mother."
"Do you remember? Your mother was in labor for over ten hours with you. After you were born, you were the apple of our eye. Chloe, we doted on you when you were little, don’t you remember?"
Chloe Reed stared at the messages, her expression blank. She felt not the slightest ripple of emotion.
Her phone went silent. Having received no reply, Charles Reed had probably given up.
Chloe Reed picked up her coffee cup, took a placid sip, and gazed out the window.
It had been drizzly and overcast for the past few days, and a chill hung in the air.
A thought suddenly occurred to her. Did Charles Reed and his wife know that Sunny Reed was missing?
Could it be that Autumn Linton fell ill after learning this news?
Past experience told her it was highly possible.
A server carrying a tray was walking past her table when someone at the next table suddenly stood up and bumped into them.
Without warning, the server stumbled toward Chloe Reed, and the coffee in their hand spilled all over her!
Chloe Reed quickly grabbed the server, preventing them from falling. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
The server was full of apologies. "I’m so sorry, so sorry! I didn’t do it on purpose. I... I’ll pay for it."
Chloe Reed looked down at the large coffee stain on her pants. She could feel a burning sensation on her thigh. She said, "Do you have any spare pants? I need to go and change."
