Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 392: Beware of Him
Just then, her phone rang. She snapped out of her daze, picked it up, and saw Preston Vance’s name flashing on the screen.
Her fingers tightened around the phone. After a long hesitation, she finally answered the call. "Preston."
"Chloe, my meeting’s over. Where are you? I’ll come pick you up," came Preston Vance’s gentle voice.
Chloe Reed said, "Something came up, so I can’t make it. You should go ahead with your plans, Preston."
Preston Vance heard that something was off in her tone and asked, "Did something happen? Is there anything I can do to help?"
Chloe Reed said, "No."
Her voice was even more sullen as she promptly hung up the phone.
She couldn’t believe that someone who seemed so gentle on the surface could do something like this behind her back, but the facts were laid out before her.
She stood up and left the hotel.
Daniel Hayes took the person straight to the police station, then returned to the hospital with her.
When the hospital room door opened, she saw that Nathaniel Monroe and Dylan Finch were both there.
Seeing her, Nathaniel Monroe greeted her with a wide grin. "Sis-in-law, you’re here!"
"Mhm," Chloe Reed acknowledged, then sat down on the sofa.
Walker Grant’s dark, almond-shaped eyes stared at her for a moment before he turned to Dylan Finch and said, "Just do as I said."
Dylan Finch nodded. "Yes."
Then, he turned and left.
Walker Grant then looked at Nathaniel Monroe and asked, "Any news from your sister?"
Nathaniel Monroe shook his head. "None."
"Go back and hurry her up."
Nathaniel Monroe was stunned. "Wait, Walker, I can’t even get in touch with her. How am I supposed to hurry her up?"
"That’s your problem." Walker Grant’s expression turned a few shades colder, his almond-shaped eyes gazing at him darkly.
Nathaniel Monroe was completely dumbfounded, but then he suddenly realized something. He glanced at Chloe Reed on the sofa, slapped his thigh, and said, "Right, you’re right. I’ll go back and hurry her up. I’ll go right now."
Then, he shot up and bolted, even making sure to close the door to the room behind him.
Only then did Walker Grant look at her and ask, "What happened?"
Hearing this, Chloe Reed glanced at him in surprise and asked, "How could you tell?"
"You look pale, and you seem to have something on your mind." Walker Grant glanced at his phone and said, "You’ve been gone for less than two hours. Did something happen again?"
Chloe Reed’s lips tightened into a thin line.
Walker Grant raised an eyebrow slightly. "So I guessed right?"
Chloe Reed averted her gaze and said, "You’re overthinking it."
The air in the room grew tense. Seeing her obvious intention to hide something, his tone grew colder. "Hiding it from me? Why? Is the person who hurt you someone I know?"
Chloe Reed’s fingers curled slightly. She then said, "It’s over now. I’ll be more careful on my own."
But this only made Walker Grant more curious. "The more you refuse to say, the more curious I am about what happened."
"You seem to be recovering well. You probably don’t need me here to take care of you anymore, so I’ll be going," Chloe Reed stood up abruptly, her face cold as she spoke.
Then, she walked past the hospital bed and headed straight for the door.
But her wrist was suddenly grabbed, and his voice followed. "Why are you so cold?"
He pulled her to his side with a tug and reached out to touch her face. "Why are you so chilly? What on earth happened?"
Chloe Reed pulled her hand away. "It’s nothing now."
Walker Grant’s expression darkened. He didn’t press her further, instead pressing the call button.
A nurse came in quickly.
He said to the nurse, "Give her a full check-up. Make sure she’s okay."
