Chloe gritted her teeth and looked away, helping him into the bathroom. She sat him down on the toilet and immediately turned to leave.

But Walker grabbed her. "Am I supposed to take off my own pants?" he asked.

Chloe looked at him, astonished. "What else? You want me to do it for you?"

"Aren’t you the one who stayed to take care of me?"

Chloe said with a humorless smile, "In that case, why don’t I just go for you?"

Walker’s lips curled into a smirk. "If you can manage that, I’m all for it," he said.

"Get lost!"

Chloe shook his hand off and walked right out of the bathroom.

Walker watched her storm away, calling out, "Wait for me by the door! I’ll call for you when I’m done."

No one responded.

The look on his face grew more serious. He lowered his gaze, thinking about how she had just acted.

’Just a cold shower is enough to deal with an aphrodisiac?’

’Is it completely out of her system?’

’Doesn’t she feel any discomfort?’

’Or... is she just enduring it?’

’But can a person really suppress something like that?’

...

Hearing his voice, Chloe went back into the bathroom. She found him leaning against the sink, his hands already clean.

She took his uninjured arm, draped it over her shoulder, and started to walk out.

But to her surprise, he suddenly tightened his grip, wrapping his other arm around her waist and lifting her onto the sink counter.

Chloe was shocked. "What are you doing?!"

Walker moved between her legs, leaned in, and stared intently into her eyes. "I’m serious, Chloe Reed," he said. "Keep your distance from Preston Vance. I still haven’t found out what he was doing abroad, and he was targeted in an assassination attempt the moment he came back. He’s too dangerous."

Chloe pushed him. "I get it! Now let me down!"

Walker grunted in pain. "You’re pressing on my wound." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

She glanced down and, sure enough, a small patch of blood was already seeping through the bandage where her right hand had been.

Startled, Chloe snatched her hand back. "I..."

Walker looked up at her and asked, "Did you hear me?"

Chloe averted her face. "I heard you," she said. "Now move. I want to get down."

Walker slowly straightened up, his eyes on the woman just inches away. Her features were soft and delicate, and her long eyelashes trembled slightly, like a butterfly’s wings.

Her full, red lips were pressed together, the slight pressure somehow sparking a thirst deep inside him.

He didn’t pull back right away. Instead, he asked in a low voice, "About the drug... are you really okay?"

"I’m fine."

Chloe’s answer was clipped.

Walker’s Adam’s apple bobbed. "You don’t have to hold back," he said. "If you need..."

Chloe looked at him. "Let you take care of it?"

Walker’s expression went blank for a moment. He then cleared his throat and said, "Even though we’ve already signed the divorce papers, for the sake of the years we spent as husband and wife, I could..."

"In your dreams."

Chloe scoffed rudely. "Move."

Caught off guard, he was easily shoved aside. She hopped down from the counter and stormed out of the bathroom.

Walker steadied himself against the wall with one hand. A flicker of bewilderment crossed his eyes before he let out a frustrated laugh.

’Yes.’

’He was dreaming.’

’He’d always been dreaming.’

’But when would a sweet dream like this ever come true?’

"Chloe Reed, my wound’s split open!"

He sighed and yelled toward the door.

But the person who came in wasn’t her. It was a nurse.

...

After his wound was re-bandaged, the nurse looked at him with a very serious expression. "You can’t let this open up again. If it gets infected, your life could be in danger."

Walker looked at Chloe. "Did you hear that? You have to take good care of me."
