Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 40: Fine, I’ll Come at You
Chloe Reed stood up and said, "Mrs. Yates, try not to worry. I’ll go ask him."
Mrs. Yates replied, "Okay, please go ask. If we did something wrong, tell him to just say so. We’ll offer a sincere apology."
After hanging up, Chloe Reed stormed off to the hospital.
However, Walker Grant was nowhere to be seen in his hospital room.
When a caregiver walked in, she demanded coldly, "Where’s Walker Grant?"
The caregiver was startled by her intensity and instinctively took a step back. "I-I don’t know."
Chloe Reed took a deep breath to calm herself, then turned and left the room.
Madam Grant’s room was a few doors down. From the doorway, she saw Walker Grant inside.
Sunny Reed and Noah Grant were there too. They were gathered around the bed, and a smile graced Madam Grant’s face. The scene was one of warmth and happiness.
Chloe Reed’s nails dug deep into her palms.
The pain both calmed and sobered her, making her see even more clearly how shameless and despicable this man was.
She pushed open the door and said coldly, "Walker Grant, get out here."
"You brat!"
The smile vanished from Madam Grant’s face. "Is this how a wife should act? I’ve been in the hospital for days, and you haven’t visited once. Walker was unconscious, and you didn’t even take proper care of him. What are you trying to pull?"
"I’m planning to ascend to the heavens," Chloe Reed said, crossing her arms. "What do you think? A pretty lofty goal, wouldn’t you say?"
"You..."
Madam Grant was so furious at her brazen attitude that her face turned ashen.
Walker Grant walked over and put a hand on her shoulder. "How can you speak to Grandma like that?"
Chloe Reed looked at him mockingly. "I’m holding back the really nasty stuff."
Walker Grant’s eyes darkened as he stared at her. "What do you want?"
Chloe Reed turned and walked away. She couldn’t stand the sight of Sunny Reed and Madam Grant. ’It’s nauseating!’
Walker Grant turned back to Madam Grant. "Grandma, you get some rest. I’ll be back in a bit."
Madam Grant’s wrinkled face was stern. "You need to teach that wife of yours a lesson. She has no respect for her elders, no upbringing. What is this behavior?"
The expression on Walker Grant’s face grew colder. He turned and walked out.
Madam Grant sighed. "Simply preposterous. If only Julian were still alive."
Sunny Reed lowered her gaze and said softly, "Grandma, Chloe has been causing a lot of trouble lately, and it’s putting Walker in a difficult position. Please don’t be so hard on him."
"What a disgrace to the family," Madam Grant sighed. "I never should have been so soft-hearted and agreed to their marriage. All this talk of divorce now... it’s so ugly. When has the Grant family ever been involved in such a scandal?"
...
「Back in Walker Grant’s hospital room.」
Chloe Reed turned her head, her crystal-clear eyes fixing on him. "Why are you going after Iris Yates?"
At her words, Walker Grant’s brow furrowed. "I’m not going after her."
"You’re still lying to me!" Chloe Reed grew agitated, the rims of her eyes reddening against her will. "Mrs. Yates already told me everything! You’re the one who sent people to target her family. Now they’ve been forced to shut down their business. Walker Grant, if you have a problem, why don’t you come at me? What do you get out of targeting my friend? Are you even human?!"
Every word was an accusation. In her mind, he was nothing but a volatile man who took his anger out on innocents.
Walker Grant’s handsome face darkened as he looked at her, bristling with hostility, her expression cold and detached.
He suddenly lunged, pushing her onto the hospital bed and pinning her beneath him. "Fine," he said. "I’ll come at you."
The next moment, his lips crashed down on hers.
