Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 416: Lie to You Once, and You Push Me Ten Times Further Away
As expected, Walker only took one sip of the porridge before putting it down. Chloe Reed looked at him and said, "The doctor will come check on you again in a bit. If there are no issues, you can be discharged."
"Mm."
The man grunted in response and immediately picked up his phone to check his messages.
Chloe cleared everything away. Just then, her phone rang. She took it out and saw it was a call from her grandmother.
"Hello, Grandma."
Her grandmother asked with concern, "How is everything?"
Chloe said, "Everything’s fine now. He’ll be discharged today."
Her grandmother was relieved. "It’s good that it’s nothing serious. I was worried, so I wanted to check in."
"Grandma, don’t worry about us. You just rest well and make sure to eat properly," Chloe urged gently.
"You don’t need to worry about me. I have Aldridge and Woods here. I’ll be fine." Her grandmother’s voice was full of warmth as she laughed.
Chloe agreed and then hung up.
The doctor came back to examine Walker, confirmed that he was fine, and went over some post-discharge instructions.
"Wait a moment."
But it was Walker who interrupted the doctor.
The doctor looked confused.
Walker, however, looked at Chloe. "Come here."
A flicker of confusion crossed Chloe’s face as she asked, "What is it?"
She walked over and stood by the hospital bed.
Only then did Walker turn to the doctor and say, "Tell her that my wound reopened because of her."
Chloe: "..." 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
She looked at him, her face devoid of expression.
The doctor paused for a moment before saying to her, "The wound can’t be allowed to reopen, and you can’t let it get wet. You have to apply the medication on schedule every day, and don’t ignore any signs of redness..."
The doctor gave a long list of instructions, and Chloe nodded repeatedly, taking note of everything.
Walker leaned back against the headboard, his heart softening as he watched her serious expression.
After being discharged, they went straight back to Jardinelle.
Chloe wanted to make a trip back to Maplewood Gardens, but he interjected, "Then I’ll go with you. What if something happens while you’re there alone?"
Chloe frowned slightly. "I just want to go back and see my grandmother."
Walker suggested, "Why don’t we bring her here? This house is bigger."
Chloe fell silent.
’Bring her over? What would that even look like?’
’We’ve already signed the divorce papers. Once this is all over, we’ll have nothing to do with each other.’
’What if Grandma gets the wrong idea?’
Chloe looked at him and asked, "Is there any news today?"
Walker promptly closed his eyes. "I was just discharged from the hospital. How would I know?"
Chloe: "..."
Her expression grew cold. She had a feeling he was lying to her again.
The car had arrived at Jardinelle. She got out and walked inside without a word, her face blank.
Walker watched her retreating figure, able to see the anger in her posture.
He said coolly, "Three days from now, you’re coming with me to meet someone."
"I’m not going." Chloe refused without a moment’s hesitation. "We’ve already signed the papers. I have no obligation to accompany you to some boring party."
Walker said languidly, "This person might know who hired the killer to come after you. Are you sure you don’t want to go?"
Chloe stopped in her tracks. She turned to look at him, her clear eyes filled with obvious suspicion. "You’re not lying to me?"
"What would I gain by lying to you?" Walker walked up to her. "Every lie I tell just pushes you further away, and that’s not what I want to see."
