Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Send the Money

Chloe Reed’s tone grew colder as she said with a wry smile, "I don’t have any sisters. How can I have a nephew?"

"Are you going to keep being unreasonable?" Charles Reed was practically fuming. "Get over here right now!"

Chloe Reed was about to refuse flat out, but then she had an idea. She said coolly, "Fine, I’ll go. Just send the money."

"What did you say?!" Charles Reed couldn’t believe his ears. "He’s your nephew."

Chloe Reed replied frostily, "I haven’t been able to stand Sunny Reed for a long, long time. If you don’t give me some incentive, I’ll go there and cause a huge scene. It’s your family that’ll lose face, anyway. What’s it got to do with me?"

"You little wretch..." Charles Reed was so enraged he nearly fainted.

Chloe Reed leisurely twirled a pen in her hand, in no hurry at all.

’Charles Reed wanted sisterly harmony and a thriving family. He would inevitably have to tolerate her.’

"How much do you want?"

Sure enough, his voice came through, thick with suppressed anger.

Chloe Reed’s lips curled into a smile. "I’m a little short on cash lately. Let’s say eight million for now."

Charles Reed said through gritted teeth, "I’ve wired you the money. You’d better be on your best behavior when you get here!"

Chloe Reed laughed. "I will."

Her mood lifted the moment the transfer confirmation came through.

’Money really does bring happiness!’

She quickly got ready and headed straight for the Grant Family Estate.

Madam Grant had returned to the estate to recuperate once her health was mostly restored, with a doctor on call 24/7.

The party was being held outdoors on the sprawling, decorated lawn, and many of the guests had brought their children.

The moment Chloe Reed appeared, people came over to greet her. After all, she still held the title as the wife of the Grant family’s second son.

"Mrs. Grant, what are you doing here by yourself? I saw Mr. Grant returned a while ago. He’s over there with his sister-in-law." Someone approached to make small talk, but their words were laced with mockery, their eyes gleaming with the thrill of gossip.

Chloe Reed looked at the woman with feigned astonishment. "You don’t know? Walker Grant is in love with his sister-in-law!"

The woman was stunned. She never imagined Chloe would be the one to say something like that out loud!

’Isn’t she embarrassed?’

’And she looked like she was enjoying the gossip herself?’

This...

For a moment, the woman was at a loss for words.

But Chloe Reed just smiled faintly and said, "Alas, you probably didn’t know. He only married me to cover up that fact. Now that you all know, I don’t have to hide it anymore."

"Chloe Reed!"

The words had barely left her lips when Walker Grant’s icy voice cut through the air.

He strode toward them, dressed in a custom-tailored suit. His features were sharp and handsome, his dark eyes deep and profound, and he radiated a glacial chill.

He wrapped an arm around her shoulder, his lips curving into a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. "Stop talking nonsense," he said. "Everyone knows I only love you."

The woman, holding a glass of champagne, sheepishly walked away.

Chloe Reed looked at him. "Are you angry?"

A cold fury churned in Walker Grant’s eyes. "Of all days, can you please not cause trouble?"

But Chloe Reed just laughed and held out her hand to him.

Walker Grant raised an eyebrow slightly. "What?"

"Hush money," Chloe Reed said, batting her lovely, limpid eyes. "If you don’t want me to talk, then pay up. Once I’ve been paid, I’ll naturally keep my mouth shut." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Walker Grant: "..."

He was so angry a vein throbbed on his temple.

She, on the other hand, wore an expression that said she was enjoying the drama and wouldn’t mind if it got bigger.

His tone was strained. "Saying things like that damages your own reputation too. Why bother?"
