Chapter 506: Chapter 506 Looking the Part

"So, what sort of face do you want?"

After a brief discussion with Cerise, Avery found himself on one of the ships that she had brought with her.

The vessel was basically just a mobile cosmetics lab meant for extensive bodily transformations for undercover assignments like the one Avery’s company would soon be undergoing.

Not everyone on his crew was required to receive facial alterations, but the members of his group’s leadership were and a few others that Cerise had identified as potential risks of being exposed.

Obviously, after getting involved with the Odium Syndicate through taking Grito as a member of his crew and protecting him, Avery had made the drug peddling criminal organization an enemy.

Not doubt he would be recognized if he approached them and they would try to kill him on sight.

"Personally, I think that you should go with the grizzled old man look. I always find it to be more fun when there is a drastic difference between what’s presented and what’s real." The enthusiastic technician assisting Avery said.

A single one of the floating heads being displayed by the room’s holoprojector suddenly enlarged and moved to the center of the projection.

It was the image of a man with visible wrinkles, brown hair that had gone mostly gray, and a heavy beard.

Avery was certain that this looked absolutely nothing like him, but he also was not sure that he could pull off pretending to be someone so old. He was still only in his early twenties after all.

"I don’t think I want to try and change my looks that drastically. I just need to look different enough not to be recognized. Not be as vastly different as possible." Avery replied before pulling up the face that had caught his eye.

The structure of the man’s face was more angular than his and the eyes were a bit droopier, but this face’s age was estimated to be in the late twenties to earlier thirties by the program. Something that Avery felt would be easier for him to adjust to.

The hair color was also the same as his own, so there would be no need to worry about using dyes or removing his hair and replacing it entirely.

As for his eyes, he would be wearing special contacts to modify their unique structure and change the color from green to brown.

"A bit of a boring choice in my opinion. Though, if you wanted to look as similar as possible, I do have another option."

The technician grinned mischievously as she fiddled with the program’s parameters.

A half minute later, the floating heads had all been replaced with a full body image of a woman. One that looked like she could be Avery’s twin sister.

"Here’s what you would look like as a girl instead. This would be a much more foolproof disguise. I guarantee you that no one would ever be able to figure it out."

Avery could hear the technician snickering as she started dressing the female model of him in different outfits.

Some ranging from ridiculous to risqué.

For a moment Avery considered severing the flow of energy to the device but held himself back.

What he had found was that when he used this ability, the damage it did was permanent.

There was no way to repair anything that he had severed.

The damage he did with his psionic powers was on a metaphysical plane and outside of what normal people could interact with.

Meaning the only way to fix what he had done would be with another psionic ability.

Something that even Avery did not have. So, whenever he used his latest power, it was irreversible. The only solution was to fully replace what he had targeted. Which is what had been necessary for the appliances in his room.

"Yeah, I think I’ll go with the face that I already picked out instead. I feel like I would be a lot more likely to slip up if I had to put on fake breasts, a wig, a voice changer, and whatever else I would need to make myself into a convincing woman." Avery said in an exasperated tone.

The technician seemed disappointed, but she could not play around for ever since she was working right now.

With a few inputs on her tablet, the projector went back to the face that Avery had picked out, and she began making some tweaks here and there to make it as convincing as possible.

"And you are adamant about using a sophisticated face mask instead of having your facial structure physically restructured? There will be more risk of discovery this way. After the mission is completed, your face will be restored without any issues."

"I’m afraid that the cosmetic surgery probably wouldn’t work on me even if I wanted it. My body is a bit special." Avery responded.

The technician wore a skeptical expression when she heard Avery’s explanation.

To her it just sounded like he was making an excuse because he did not want to change his face.

However, her tune changed when Avery gave her a demonstration.

Using his teeth he bit off the tip of his left index finger and pointed it at the woman.

At first, she looked aghast, but her eyes soon went wide in disbelief as she watched Avery fully heal within just a few seconds.

"And that’s not from some nanomachine implant that could be disabled. That’s just my natural healing ability."

Realization dawned on the technician’s face.

It did not matter how quickly they tried to reconstruct his face if he would just immediately undue all of their work.

Obviously, his body would consider the procedure to be damaging him and try to return his face to its natural state.

"I see. I guess that the face mask is the only viable option then. Well, I’ll make sure that it’s the best possible since you’re the captain. Commander Gunvald did give me quite the budget to work with this time, so I might as well use it."

Now that his new face was decided on, Avery was handed a tablet with a catalogue for his new wardrobe.

It was absolutely necessary that he was not discovered, so Cerise had gone all out to make sure that he could play his part during the mission.
