Peach Blossom Divine Medical God
Chapter 1977 - 1961: Purgatory (Part 2)
He looked at Chen Yang through tinted glasses, so of course he couldn’t hear a word Chen Yang was saying.
Even if it sounded very reasonable, he shot it down without even thinking.
"Are you done talking?" Dr. Wang said coldly.
"I’m done."
"If you’re done then please get out. I really don’t have time to watch a frog‑in‑the‑well, a two‑bit clown like you put on a show. Don’t delay my work." Dr. Wang pointed at the door and raised his voice.
"Dr. Wang!"
Seeing that the other side actually wanted to throw people out, the town chief couldn’t sit still anymore and wanted to speak up for him, but this time Dr. Wang was being overbearingly domineering.
He didn’t even want to give the town chief any face.
"Town Chief! The province sent me here to fully take over the treatment. I have the authority to make anyone who interferes with treatment leave!" Dr. Wang said loudly.
"You..." The town chief was tongue‑tied; the other party did indeed have that authority.
"What Chen Yang said isn’t completely without reason. With you being this hard‑line, if something were to happen..." The town chief still wanted to say something, but the conceited Dr. Wang didn’t give him the slightest chance!
"There is no ’if’! And even if there is, I’ll take responsibility! I studied abroad for five years and have been practicing at a top provincial hospital for over a year. You telling me my medical skills can’t compare to his?" Dr. Wang said forcefully.
"You..."
The town chief was completely at a loss for words and didn’t know what to say.
"You, right now, immediately, get out of here, or I’ll call security." Dr. Wang glared at Chen Yang.
"Heh." Chen Yang couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh. This overseas‑returnee really was arrogant.
But what could he do? This place was under the guy’s command; even if he wanted to help, he couldn’t.
He could only feel sorry for those critical patients.
"You’ll come begging me."
Chen Yang shook his head with a smile, turned around, and left the house.
Wu Kexin shot Dr. Wang a look full of disgust, then followed Chen Yang out.
"Hmph, what the hell is he, to be pointing fingers at our Dr. Wang? That’s laughable."
"Exactly, a jumping clown, a frog at the bottom of a well, an ignorant fool."
The doctors from the provincial capital saw Chen Yang leave and all started making snide comments behind his back.
Dr. Wang also let out a cold snort. "Since we already know he’s a frog in a well and an ignorant fool, what’s there to talk about? Don’t waste time. Keep treating with the meds. We need to stabilize things by tonight."
"Yes, Dr. Wang."
...
Right after Chen Yang left, Dr. Wang immediately continued administering the drugs.
The town chief still felt uneasy, but things had come to this point; he had no other choice and could only watch Dr. Wang and the others treat the patients.
Pft!!
All of a sudden, the first critical patient who had received the medicine spat out a mouthful of fresh blood, rolling right off the bed.
"Ugh, I feel awful, I..."
The critical patient let out a painful wail, then immediately fell unconscious.
"Ah, what’s going on? Dr. Wang, come quickly and take a look."
The closest doctor was startled and let out a shriek.
Dr. Wang had been guiding the other doctors in treating patients. Hearing the commotion, he rushed over at once.
Looking at the patient’s agonized expression and the blood he’d vomited, Dr. Wang himself was stunned.
He hadn’t considered that something like this would suddenly happen.
"Quick, check the patient’s condition and find the cause." After a few seconds, he forced himself to calm down a little and began giving orders.
"O‑okay, okay."
A few doctors hurriedly followed his instructions and used equipment to examine the patient who’d vomited blood.
"Dr. Wang, he really is vomiting blood. This is exactly the same as what Chen Yang just said would happen. I think we’d better suspend the medication for now and invite Chen Yang back so we can talk this over together. An epidemic isn’t a small matter; we can’t mess around." The town chief was getting nervous and thought of Chen Yang right away.
But Dr. Wang still insisted on being stubborn.
"Town Chief, are you questioning my medical ability? The patient vomiting blood is very likely due to some condition of his own; it doesn’t mean there’s a problem with my medication. This is just an isolated case!" Dr. Wang said forcefully.
Pft...
As soon as he finished speaking, another critical patient nearby suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood, struggled painfully a few times, then fell off the bed and passed out.
And it wasn’t just him. In the short half minute that followed, almost all the patients who had been given the medicine showed the same symptoms.
The critically ill were vomiting blood; the milder cases were in unbearable pain, rolling back and forth on their beds and howling in agony.
In an instant, the room that had been relatively orderly turned into utter chaos. Screams echoed nonstop, like a living hell.
"Dr. Wang! One case might be due to the patient’s own condition, but now everyone is reacting. How do you explain this?" The town chief was both horrified and furious.
It was obvious that what was happening matched exactly what Chen Yang had warned about.
All the patients were having problems, and exactly as Chen Yang had described. That could only mean Dr. Wang’s treatment plan was at fault.
"This..."
Dr. Wang panicked now as well and finally began to realize something was seriously wrong.
"There must be some other reason. My drug regimen was developed with careful research. How could there be a problem?" Dr. Wang was still being stubborn, refusing to admit his treatment plan might be wrong.
The town chief said angrily, "Then why was there no problem with the treatment plan Chen Yang customized for everyone last night? You’ve only been here how long, and now everyone’s ended up like this?"
"I..." Dr. Wang was at a loss for words and couldn’t answer.
The town chief gritted his teeth, full of regret; his guts were practically turning green. If he’d known it would be like this, he should have insisted on trusting Chen Yang just now.
Even if something happened and he had to take the blame, it would have been worth it.
"Everyone stop administering drugs. I’m going to get Chen Yang back right now. No one is allowed to act rashly!"
The town chief threw down these words and ran out of the house, rushing off to look for Chen Yang.
Right now he couldn’t be bothered with assigning blame. Stabilizing the patients was what mattered most.
The town chief hurried along and finally caught up with the departing Chen Yang and Wu Kexin at the village entrance.
"Chen Yang, Kexin."
From far away the town chief called out to Chen Yang and Wu Kexin.
Hearing the shout, the two turned around.
"Town chief?"
"Chen Yang, don’t go. The village can’t do without you." The town chief ran over, panting as he spoke.
"Town chief, something’s happened with the patients?" From the town chief’s flustered look, Chen Yang immediately knew something must have gone wrong.
And sure enough, things were just as he’d expected.
"Yes, you hit the nail on the head. As soon as that quack’s medicine went in, it wasn’t long before the patients started vomiting blood and having violent reactions." The town chief said anxiously.
Chen Yang frowned when he heard this.
Even though he’d seen it coming, when it really happened he still felt helpless.
He hadn’t expected it to happen this fast.
"That Dr. Wang doesn’t have any countermeasures?" Chen Yang pressed.
"Countermeasures my ass. He’s totally stunned, and he still refuses to admit there’s a problem with his meds. Chen Yang, hurry back and take a look, or something big is really going to happen today." The town chief said.
"Alright, I’ll go back and take a look."
The reason Chen Yang had planned to leave was that, although Dr. Wang’s medication was wrong, the man did have some medical skill and should have been able to handle emergencies.
He hadn’t expected the guy to just freeze up.
Which meant he had no choice but to go back and clean up the mess.
However ugly Dr. Wang and the others’ behavior was, the patients were innocent.
As a doctor, he couldn’t let a few idiots cause those patients to lose their lives for nothing.
"Good, let’s go."
Seeing that Chen Yang didn’t hold a grudge, the town chief felt a wave of relief and once again looked at Chen Yang with renewed respect.
The three of them quickly returned from the village entrance to the house.
Right now the house really was like a purgatory. The wails never stopped; patients were either vomiting blood or writhing on the ground. The scene was too miserable to look at.
"Quick, use the equipment and check what exactly is going wrong."
"Over there, get some clean water, let the patients calm down a bit."
...
Dr. Wang wasn’t completely useless; when Chen Yang and the town chief came back, he was at least trying some measures.
But these so‑called measures were of no use to the patients.
If things kept dragging on, the patients definitely wouldn’t last.
