Chapter 119: The Third Game

There was one buck, two wild boars, an eagle, two crows, a vulture, and so on.

She blinked and then realized she must’ve unconsciously activated her abilities at some point. The feeling was a bit like slouching after getting into the habit of standing up straight.

Without hesitation, he simply touched them all to place them in her space. For the birds, she had to use her teleportation skills to be able to get in contact with them. A few escaped as she appeared next to them, but oh well...

Interestingly, capturing animals ended up being her activity while she waited for the contestants to arrive. They arrived in time for the deadline, though some arrived earlier to avoid being late.

Unsurprisingly, it was Uncle who successfully hunted the most game, but the teenagers were definitely moldable.

She had trained them in using several cold weapons and taught them survival knowledge, so if they hadn’t learned and applied anything after all that effort, she’d have thrown them as bait for wild beasts.

Other than these, she also taught them how to make the most of the little resources they had. For example, how to make use of the terrain, how to make use of different parts of a (common) plant, and so on.

Although there were no forests in the apocalypse, they had plenty of survival training by the base. Now, she studied everything she could get her hands on, reading them in her free time. She was a very fast reader and had a near-photographic memory, so she managed to go through a lot of resources.

Not to mention, even back then, she had read the few surviving books, videos, documentaries, etc., about flora and fauna because she had been genuinely interested in them. Since there were so few resources, she had read those same books several times, back to back.

Now, she was making use of each of those times.

Anyway, back to training, the next round resumed immediately after the hunt.

As for the third game, the players would spar with each other.

The kids would have their own sparring track, but naturally, it would be like those kiddie martial arts tournaments, complete with the protective equipment and mats.

The kids also had their own allocated rewards. It was smaller at a hundred thousand danas, but that was still a large windfall even for many adults, let alone little children who grew up receiving a few tens of danas as a daily allowance.

Throughout history, sparring has always been an effective way to gauge one’s improvements and learn from others, while also training people’s stress response and response times.

Whoever could win two consecutive matches first would win the first round. Once they lost, the counter would resume, and so on.

The second round, set for the next day, would be against Naia. No one would think they could beat Naia, but basically, whoever could land a solid hit within ten minutes first was considered the winner.

This time, the rewards were even more generous. The winner of the second round would receive a full million danas for the shopping budget.

They moved camp to a nice clearing next to a river that Gale’s team found when they were hunting. The river was not too wide, just ten meters or so, with an average depth of around one-and-a-half meters.

It was a bit rocky, but there were a lot of fish.

The running water made Naia imagine what it would be like if it were in her space. Should she simulate running water by adding slopes and placing pumps downstream?

She’d probably have to buy several industrial-grade pumps for that, but it would be worth it, even if it were just for her spiritual comfort, not to mention ensuring the water was running was essential to avoiding certain bacteria.

The sparring sessions were one-on-one, and the rest would either set up the camp, fish, or play.

The first battle was between Uncle vs Glen, then Gale vs Linlin, and Hans was lucky and got the bye.

It was a no-weapon fight, and they specifically chose a patch of land with soft grass and soil, getting rid of the protruding rocks there.

Pak!

Bam!

They did not distract the fighters and let them brawl. It hadn’t been long since they started learning self-defense techniques, so Naia didn’t have high expectations for technicalities.

It looked more like an alley brawl than the kind of handsome spar.

Glen even pulled Uncle’s hair, and Uncle poked Glen’s stomach...

Naia thought that she should probably recruit MMA fighters. Even if they were going against aliens, it wouldn’t harm anyone to learn more techniques.

After the fight, she’d also tell them the rest of her critique.

"Uncle, your core is imbalanced."

"Glen, you’re too impatient. You have good accuracy. Don’t waste precious energy and time on random hits when you could’ve done much more effective hits."

"Uncle, it seems like your vertical hits are stronger than your horizontal ones. Develop it more."

"Glen, you’ll need to improve on your footwork skills. For now, watch videos from experts while we kidnap, er, find and recruit legitimate ones."

And so on. Uncle won, but Glen put up a very good fight, chicken head and scratches and all.

The girls’ fight focused more on flexibility, dexterity, and strategy.

For the girls, Gale won, though mostly because Linlin had been living a sedentary life before Naia started training her.

In contrast, Gale lived as a mining slave for months, so her muscle lines were quite solid despite her petite frame.

Finally, the little kids went against each other in a wheel battle. Naia monitored their process. The others barely knew the technicalities of fights in their own age, but Naia—in her past life—had been trained since she was a child. Therefore, she knew what to look out for and where to start.

One does not get fat by eating a lot at once. Growth and physique were the same. For developing children, their focus was elsewhere.

For example, balance, coordination, footwork, spatial awareness, and reaction time were given priority at that age.

When sparring, they taught the kids how to distance themselves properly, making sure their attacks landed and the force was good. They were taught what positions would give weak attacks, impractical attacks, as well as the right sequence of attacks.

They were also taught which moves to use to counter the others, and so on.

These were taught to the adults as well, but their lessons were far more compressed, and they had long moved on to more advanced lessons. They were just expected to review and solidify their own foundations in their own time.

They had a nice meal and nap time after the first round. Interestingly, the two winners, Uncle and Gale, approached Naia, asking her if they could stay in the space to rest until the next round starts.

"Oh? Time runs the same as inside, though?" Naia asked, wondering if they thought the space had stretched time or something.

"Then again, there are more comfortable accommodations there..." she said, raising her hand and about to transfer them inside.

"Hmm. I just feel like I’d recover better inside," Gale said, and the rest of them nodded.

As Naia put them inside the space, she couldn’t help but remember some of the injured animals she had in space. Dr. Cynthia, the veterinarian, had given her a timeline of the animals’ recoveries, and they had indeed improved much faster than estimated.

Was the environment in space better or something?

Thinking of it this way, she directly took everyone back inside the space to rest, and they didn’t go out until hours later to finish the final fight of the day, Uncle vs Gale, and it was quite a good fight to watch.

Don’t think that Uncle was sure to win. Females had their own advantages, and neither side was holding back. Rather, Naia strictly prohibited them from holding back at all.

Uncle was undoubtedly superior in terms of brute force, and Gale was immediately suppressed. Uncle had also taken note of the critiques earlier, so his hits were even cleaner than before.

Gale’s mining days improved her strength, but it couldn’t be compared to that of an adult man who did construction as a living. She knew this, so she never fought with it.

Instead, Gale used Marcus’ heavy punches to determine the direction of his momentum. In addition to her improved agility, this allowed her to avoid most of the hits, ideally throwing some of her own. Her own hits were also hit-or-miss and were not very strong, but she could land more than he could.

Uncle won after half an hour of fighting, and it was also a close call. This was a wake-up call to the middle-aged man, who had become more and more enlightened that brute strength wasn’t all there was to fighting.

The next day, it was Uncle versus Naia, and Naia gave a lot of leeway to him. They took it slow, with Naia criticizing some hits as they went, and Uncle never felt offended.

Naia eventually got bored and took Marcus down, and their audience applauded for her awesomeness.

"I wonder who could beat Naia," Gale couldn’t help but mutter at the side. "At least pose a challenge to her." Any one of them probably wouldn’t last a few hits from her, and that was even in a casual fight.

Linlin went over, handing some cola and towels to each of the fighters. She passed over her own father and went to interview her cousin.

"Naia! If we fight you together, will we have a chance? Which one of us do you think can land a hit on you if you were serious?"

"None," Naia bluntly said. "Not yet."

They were not surprised at the result. Rather, it inspired them. Naia was so young, and yet she was so awesome. What excuse could others have?

Unexpectedly, a new voice sounded from the side, and a handsome figure emerged from the forest.

"How about I give it a try?" he asked.

Everyone turned their head to look. Most of them gaped, while Naia’s pupils dilated. "Kael!"
