Acero Town

Naia was completely unaware that any of these were happening. She was now focused on preparing herself for the apocalypse, if it were to happen.

She looked at her limited funds. Not counting the gold and jewelry in the duffel bag, she had around six hundred thousand danas in cash at this time.

With this, she decided to start with the basics: Food.

A lot of it.

Awakeners...needed a lot more food than ordinary folk, regardless of what their ability was. It was another reason why the nutrient solution was developed quickly. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Not to mention the dwindling resources due to the successive natural disasters and alien invasion, even if they gave everything they had to feed Awakeners, they could no longer sustain Awakeners purely because of the volume of sustenance they needed.

First thing she bought (after the street food she was chewing on) was a basic smartphone, spending five thousand danas, which was fairly low since she bought an old model. She then bought a new SIM card.

New SIM cards must be registered within 3 months of purchase, otherwise it would be invalidated. Registering the SIM required ID as well as photos, which was inconvenient for her, considering she was supposed to be dead.

Good for her, she only needed 3 months to do everything she needed to do.

She didn’t want to rely on her very limited experience, so she decided to ask the internet about what to prepare and also give her a better understanding of this world and how it worked.

She also checked in at an inn, one that wasn’t too grand but comfortable enough. Of course, for her who had slept on gravel and cracked earth, this was already heaven.

After resting and surfing the internet, she went out again to buy more things and have dinner by the end of it. She hadn’t even left the inn, and she was already wondering what to have for dinner.

She went to a nearby supermarket and bought a few of the basics, some of which were dependent on what was important for basic convenience, according to Nadia’s memories.

A lot of these things did not even exist in her vocabulary, at least not readily, but since they were already here and she could afford them, she bought them anyway.

Other than food and water, she bought things like toiletries, sauces, tools, and whatever she could gather from memory.

She bought a bit of everything, including a few lighters, fire starters, pots, pans, face towels, body towels, and so on.

But...80% of her cart’s content was food. She was enlightened with junk food, jerky, dried fruits, chocolate, crackers, noodles, and so on.

It so happened that one of the junk food options had a free taste stall, and she bought a lot from there, too.

Judging by how the sales girls were looking at her, Naia would’ve thought they had fallen in love with her or something. They even gave her more free taste foods, and she happily took everything that was offered, and then bought all the flavors that fit her taste.

It couldn’t be helped. As someone born when the world was already destroyed, her standard of what was ’good enough’ was the bare minimum.

She filled a few carts with these things and brought them to a corner without people and CCTVs, placing them in her space. Very convenient.

She went to a pawn shop and, while wearing a face mask, sold one-fourth of the items. She earned another million.

This was only a preliminary shopping spree that had the facet of having fun. The most practical purchases still needed a bit more planning. With the money she had for now, she would only be able to afford water, food, and some clothes and tools.

Building shelters and the like was too expensive. Not to mention that the apocalypse could happen in 3 months, which was not enough for her poor arse to build anything decent.

After a satisfying ’initial shopping’ run, she finally headed back to the inn, also to test the limits of her space. She looked at the space and took out a stick of barbecue and a serving of siu mai.

They were no longer warm.

Sigh

Honestly, after a few more bites, she didn’t think she’d be able to live without them anymore. This was why she was especially disappointed to see that the street food she bought was no longer warm.

They were still delicious of course, but this also meant they’d rot inside after some time.

Sigh.

But she didn’t feel too disappointed. Her intuition was telling her there was much more to this space than she knew. She just hoped she’d discover them all before it was too late.

Maybe she really could get a static space. Who knows?

And even if there was no such thing, she was already immensely grateful.

One, she was alive and well. Second, all of her appendages were intact. And third, she had...a future.

She was now lying in a soft bed with air conditioning, the perfect ambient temperature, and food on hand.

How many awakeners could be as lucky as she was?
