Pregnant and Pampered: The Heiress in a Military Compound
Chapter 99: Taking the Mother’s Surname?
"Yue Yihan, what kind of nonsense are you spouting! I grew up with you, and you’re calling me a traitor!"
Hearing Yue Yihan reveal her true identity, Yu Huo reacted as if her tail had been stepped on and began cursing him endlessly.
Yue Yihan watched the incessantly cursing Yu Huo with cold eyes, a sneer spreading across his face. "Whether you are or not, you can explain it yourself at the military district."
With that, he and his men left the police station.
"Yue Yihan! Get back here!" Seeing Yue Yihan actually turn and leave, Yu Huo started to panic.
But Yue Yihan acted as if he hadn’t heard a thing, refusing to turn back no matter how loudly she yelled.
Realizing she was being arrested, Yu Huo immediately wiped away her tears. "I’m sorry to have made a scene in front of you officers. He’s my older brother, and he’s afraid my sister-in-law will find out about what’s between us..."
The officers weren’t the type to take one side of a story at face value. As she spoke, one of them immediately took out a pen to take notes.
"Very well. We will forward your statement to the military district. They will make the final decision." The officer’s impartial response left Yu Huo speechless.
She glared daggers at the officers.
She furiously cursed them out, calling them psychos.
"Insulting a police officer is an additional offense!" a female officer snorted, her words finally making Yu Huo fall silent.
Seeing no chance of getting out, Yu Huo finally behaved herself. She didn’t dare provoke the police any further.
Once she settled down, one of the officers shook his head in resignation. "I don’t know what she’s thinking. Commander Yue was raised by He Liuzhang. If she really grew up with him, then... isn’t this biting the hand that feeds her?"
The officers didn’t bother to lower their voices.
Yu Huo heard every word.
Yu Huo sat nearby with her arms crossed, pretending she hadn’t heard a thing.
’No matter what they say, as long as I don’t admit anything, they can’t do a thing to me without evidence.’
Yu Huo resolved to say nothing. ’As long as I believe I’m innocent, then I *am* innocent! My adoptive brother is just making things difficult for me!’
Clinging to this conviction, Yu Huo was transferred to the military district.
When Yu Huo got out of the car, she was met by He Liuzhang’s aide.
The moment she stepped out of the car, she saw a familiar face. Her nose tingled. "Brother Yu, I’m so glad you’re here..." Her voice was choked with tears as she approached He Liuzhang’s aide and tugged on his sleeve.
She looked for all the world like she had been horribly bullied.
The aide, whose surname was also Yu, glanced at her before turning to the officers who had escorted her. He gave them a military salute. "Thank you, comrades, for escorting her to the military district!"
"Of course!"
The officers returned the salute.
The aide said nothing more, simply instructing the soldiers behind him to take Yu Huo away. After seeing the officers off, he turned and left.
Catching up to the group, the aide said to the two soldiers escorting Yu Huo, "Take her to Room 1."
"Yes, sir!"
The two soldiers saluted the aide, then grabbed Yu Huo by the arms and began walking toward Room 1.
Yu Huo kept turning her head back. "Brother Yu! What is Room 1? Tell me!" ’This doesn’t look like a good place!’
As she was being dragged away, the aide remained silent.
He remained strictly professional.
Her shouting drew the attention of those nearby. They frowned, disapproving of the commotion.
Yu Huo ignored the onlookers’ gazes and stared daggers at the aide. "Don’t we share the same surname? Why won’t you help me out a little!"
A baffled expression appeared on the aide’s face.
He still didn’t answer.
Only after she had made enough of a scene did the aide lead her into Room 1.
It was called Room 1, but it was actually Interrogation Room 1. The moment she was brought inside, Yu Huo knew she was in deep trouble.
’Being brought here can only mean one thing: the military already has key evidence. I’m not getting out of this.’
Yu Huo slumped into a chair, no longer daring to make a peep. She scanned her surroundings, desperately searching for a familiar face, but found none.
Not a single one.
"I want to see He Liuzhang!" Seeing the situation was not in her favor, Yu Huo immediately made a demand to the soldiers around her.
’She had to see her godfather!’
The aide surnamed Yu stood behind her. "It would be best for you to cooperate. Otherwise, we can’t be sure what you might lose." As he spoke, he nodded to the person beside him.
That person stepped forward and tossed several photos onto the table.
They showed a woman and a young girl.
Yu Huo’s eyes widened in fury. "How dare you!"
"Drugging a regiment-level commander, Yu Huo. That crime alone is enough to put you in prison for life. And we’ve also thoroughly investigated everything you did in Shanghai..."
The soldier then listed out everything Yu Huo had done in Shanghai.
"Don’t even think about taking the fall for this by yourself. We know you far better than you can imagine."
Outside the interrogation room, a look of weary defeat crossed He Liuzhang’s face. He stood in the hallway, slowly taking a drag from his cigarette.
"Don’t take it too hard," a superior standing beside He Liuzhang said with a sigh, patting his shoulder comfortingly. "After all, your intentions were good back then. Who could have known you were being targeted from the very beginning?"
What pained He Liuzhang wasn’t that his years of affection had been misplaced, but rather—
"She went after my son!"
He had raised Yue Yihan. Although Yue Yihan called him Uncle He, in his heart, there was no difference between him and a real son.
How could he possibly be happy that his goddaughter, Yu Huo, had been foolish enough to go after his son?!
So, He Liuzhang was deeply distressed.
At the same time, he was somewhat relieved. If Yu Huo had actually succeeded, knowing Yue Yihan’s character, he probably would have insisted on taking responsibility.
Taking responsibility would have been one thing, but the crucial point was that she was a terrible person!
The more he thought about it, the more He Liuzhang regretted helping her when her biological family was mistreating her.
"That’s all in the past now. Besides, didn’t Yihan’s wife just give birth?"
At the mention of this, He Liuzhang’s attention was instantly diverted. He nodded happily. "Right! You should see them. The two little ones are just adorable!"
Talking about his two grandchildren, He Liuzhang’s mood brightened instantly.
If they didn’t live so far away, he’d be over there every single day.
He was full of regret now. "Sigh, if I’d known, I would’ve worked something out with the logistics department to get Yihan’s wife a place sooner. That way, I could see my grandchildren every day!"
It’s a crying shame!
The man beside him burst out laughing.
When Yue Yihan arrived, he saw the two leaders chatting, with He Liuzhang looking utterly heartbroken and full of regret.
From a distance, he could hear the Brigade Commander regretting not getting Xie Changning a place in the family housing.
Instantly, Yue Yihan puffed out his chest like a triumphant rooster and strode up to He Liuzhang. "Regretting it now, are you? Even if you ask her to come now, she won’t."
"..."
He Liuzhang shot Yue Yihan an annoyed glare.
’This little brat!’
"Yihan, have you gotten the kids’ household registration sorted out?"
"Not yet. My wife’s household registration is still in another city; it hasn’t been transferred here. I’m planning to take a trip to Shanghai with her when I have time to get the kids registered there."
"I heard your two kids are taking their mother’s last name?"
