After finishing lunch and resuming our studies, time passed in the blink of an eye while I listened to Shiori’s clear, easy-to-understand explanations. Before I knew it, evening had arrived.

Shiori prepared another delicious homemade dinner, just like at lunchtime.

"Thank you so much, Shiori-san!"

When it was time for my bath, she said gently, "I won’t be joining you, of course. I’ll wait right by the entrance. Call me immediately if anything feels off."

I felt both relieved and, strangely, a little disappointed as I took my bath.

Shiori smiled warmly and headed to the adjacent room. Just seeing that smile made my heart race again. I crawled into bed, but sleep wouldn’t come.

My heart kept pounding loudly in my chest. Every time I closed my eyes, Shiori’s beautiful face and gentle smile appeared, making my body feel hot and restless.

I got out of bed, poured myself some cold water from the pitcher Shiori had thoughtfully prepared, and took a sip.

The sound of glass breaking echoed through the room as the balcony window shattered. Two men dressed entirely in black slipped inside.

"...This is the room."

They scanned the room before fixing their eyes on the bed. One of them held a dull, gleaming blade.

I wasn’t in the bed.

Shiori had suddenly appeared from the next room the moment I was drinking water, quickly pulled me into the closet, and hid us both inside. Just seconds later, the intruders had climbed onto the balcony and broken in.

"Shiori-san... you’re amazing..."

She had sensed them coming before they even entered. I was in awe of her sharpness, but at the same time, my heart was racing with fear for a completely different reason.

From the narrow gap in the closet door, we watched the two men creep toward the bed. Shiori stayed on high alert, one hand gently covering my mouth from behind so I wouldn’t make a sound.

"For now, we’ll leave these two to Lord Bright. After that, we should move to a different room to rest properly."
