Chapter 129: Desire for Immortality
As the green light receded, Fengyu nodded as if he had expected the result.
Clean wound, healed cut artery, no blood flowing.
Nothing! Nothing at all happened!
"It seems we won’t be able to escape the cruel and gruesome opening of the wound!" Fengyu sighed, telling Zimu to get a thick, short stick of wood.
Meanwhile, he took out a small knife, a low-grade spiritual treasure costing only 50 spirit stones, which he had bought at one point to help him cut a few things. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
He moved his hands along the edge, pressing at it and using his spiritual control to clean the blade and slightly sharpen it.
"That should do," he said, lowering the blade into the wound and moving it slightly to find the best way to cut it open.
"Doctor Fengyu," a cautious and nervous voice came from Lu Fang, "what, what are you doing?" he barely uttered, trying to suppress his body’s trembling.
"Oh, this, I’m going to re-open the wound to proceed with the healing. I just tried out doing it without, and it doesn’t work, so I will have to take this step."
"Doctor, doctor-" the man stuttered in shock, his legs giving in, causing his body to slightly lean forward.
"Careful!" Fengyu shouted as he quickly pulled out the blade, "You can’t do that, or else you will cause unnecessary injuries!" he scolded as he put his hand on the man’s other shoulder, straightening it and pressing it down to ensure the same wouldn’t happen again.
"Doctor, please-" the man was about to plead when Zimu came in with the stick.
"Open your mouth," Fengyu said.
Lu Fang did so out of instinct, only to have the stick stuck between his teeth, "Doooh, whaa ihhs thssss?"
"Bite on it! We don’t want to harm your tongue in this process!" Fengyu told him as he once again took position with his blade.
The man was shocked and could only try suppressing his body again while he bit down on the stick.
Fengyu looked deeply at the artery, finally deciding to cut the tip of it to try out how well his healing would go.
Slash
Splatter
"Agghhhhhhhhh," the man grumbled as the blade cut open the tip of the artery, instantly feeling his body go weak as blood splattered out in an instant!
Fengyu quickly controlled the blood with the water control spell and the vitality control spell.
"Wood Recovery Spell, Recover!" he said quickly, closing the wound instantly.
"No, this doesn’t work. It doesn’t work at all." Fengyu muttered as he gently let go of Lu Fang, letting his body fall to the ground.
He thought about it for a moment and had an idea, browsing his mind for the knowledge he had gained last time.
"Acupuncture! That’s a good way, very good! By sealing some of his acupoints, I can effectively cut off the blood flow for a region for just a moment! Though this can’t be done for too long, or else I might kill the artery fully. Although it’s connected to the arteries of the whole body, in the end, a dead piece is a lot more difficult to heal and will require me to cut off the dead piece to heal the rest..."
As he thought aloud, Lu Fang, listening to all of this, was shocked repeatedly. He lowered his head, a feeling of death appearing in his mind. But his mother had told him one thing clearly - he had to complete his healing or he could give up his cultivation and focus on having descendants.
How could he do that?
His path had just started - his talent was good, and he even subtly saw something appear in his mind when he was sewing a carpet! Later, when he asked, his mother became extremely delighted and told him to simply follow his own feeling and ignore everything else.
Such a great fortune was awaiting him, how could he give it all up for a momentary fear?
He looked up once more, only to be met with Zimu’s clear eyes, its purple bill shining at him.
"Quack, this guy has become a lot more peaceful all of a sudden. Brother Fengyu, he should be fine now!"
"Good," Fengyu nodded, not saying more. His speech would be understood by Lu Fang, so he didn’t say anything and instead patted the man’s shoulder, telling him to simply look around the room and relax for a bit, and that he could go out and play with the ducks if he was bored.
He left the room and went to his own with Zimu, continuing what he wanted to say -
"This guy was scared so bad and still persisted in his cultivation! I feel like after all this time, there is only one thing that seems to be the characteristic of those that awaken the Inspirations.
It’s the endless desire to pursue immortality!
Maybe this is what awakens their mind and allows them to see the truth of the world?
I have this... because I’ve experienced what it is to be a mortal..." he thought about himself, various reasons appearing in his mind. But he knew the blandest, most blatant, and plain reason was actually the reason he truly wished to pursue immortality -
The sight.
His mind whirred and focused back on other people who were the same, "Ming and Ling both seem only a short distance from awakening their True Inspiration.
Their desire for immortality... it should have started with when their father died. But, this can’t be what led them to awaken it.
After all, so many cultivators are orphans, and basically everyone has a tragic story! So, where does their desire for immortality come from?" Fengyu was confused as he thought about it.
His mind was working at a high rate, trying to figure it out.
"Desire for immortality? Is it so great to become an immortal?" Zimu asked when he saw him obsessed with this idea.
"Of course-... I... don’t know?"
