Chapter 149: Spirit Beast Hospital
A huge plaque hung above the entrance, "Spirit Beast Hospital"!
The large entrance allowed for all beasts to enter without an issue. Walking into it, Fengyu saw that the receptionists here were mostly half-beasts, while beasts lined up in long lines to enter the hospital.
That’s right - there were no arrows nor a way to enter as he wanted, you had to line up at a huge reception and then enter on the side. Half-beast guides waited on the side, leading the beast patients into the hospital while striking casual conversations.
The sight of rat half-beasts comfortably leading snakes astonished Fengyu, but he thought that once beasts become Spiritual Beasts, they’re like humans becoming cultivators. As a cultivator, you only have three things in your mind: how to reach higher realms, how to protect yourself, and how to become stronger. Every other thought would be based on this. A racial conflict outside would simply have no place in this setting focused on individual cultivation.
At least the beasts wouldn’t act up in the city - what they did in their fields or outside in the wild was up to them.
Heh, even humans disregarded law and morality once outside the city, how could one expect beasts to be any better?
Fengyu walked to a rather empty reception and lined up behind a cat beast and a scorpion beast. The cat had a rash on its back while the scorpion’s tail had lost several of its scales, nearly revealing its flesh to the outside. Occasionally a few beasts would glance over, but neither the lookers nor the beasts said anything, simply acting like nothing happened.
The cat was quickly led away, while the scorpion was halted for some time before also going away.
"Hello fellow daoist, what injury or ailment do you have?" the wolf half-beast receptionist asked.
"Hello hello, I am actually here because I wanted to know more about the hospital. I don’t have any injury." Fengyu explained.
"Oh, that’s no problem. Please give me your token so I can register a 1 hour guide through our hospital." the receptionist seemed used to it and tapped with his clawed furry hands on the jade tablet in front of him while reaching his hand forward with the other.
Fengyu smiled at the efficiency and took out his token, handing it over.
The wolf was a bit surprised when it saw the token, but didn’t say anything and simply registered it before giving it back, "Have an enjoyable tour, esteemed inner citizen!" the receptionist said before stretching his hand sideways, leading him to the guide that stepped forward.
Fengyu nodded and walked to the guide, who was a rabbit half-beast.
"Fellow daoist, you booked a one hour tour through our hospital. Do you have any preferences about what you would like to know?" the guide hopped to Fengyu then led him into the hospital so as not to block the way for others.
"I generally want to learn how this hospital operates." Fengyu said, actually thinking that an hour was too long.
"The operation? Oh, fellow daoist probably didn’t hear much of our hospital before coming here. Let me take you around then." the rabbit guide nodded and took him down the path, crossing a large wall that blocked the view of the reception.
Once across, Fengyu saw a different sight - a huge corridor with large gates left and right, some gates closed while others were open.
Looking into the open rooms, he saw that each room was very large. It had various equipment and different people serving there, from humans to half-beasts and beasts.
Some even operated with the door opened, using various abilities and spells to heal people. There were quite a few people just going around and looking at the open operations.
"Fellow daoist can probably guess from what we have seen," the rabbit guide finally said after taking Fengyu along the corridor, "that our hospital is quite different from the other two!"
Fengyu nodded and waited for him to continue.
"Because our hospital initially lacked enough doctors to establish different wards, we instead decided to take the model of making this hospital a huge gathering of singular doctors’ offices that treat both humans and beasts.
Each doctor would then give us a list of which kind of patients they could treat. As you saw, we have a huge reception, this is where we ask preliminary questions and then send the patients to the respective doctors’ offices.
Later on, we got more and more doctors, so we expanded our reception and built a second and third floor. The first two floors are dedicated to patients in the first and second stage, while the third floor is dedicated to patients in the third and fourth stage.
With many doctors, we can send our patients smoothly to the doctors. If a doctor is out, we likely have five or six other doctors who can do this job too.
Rather than a hospital, it’s really better to say that we are a large building housing many doctors’ offices with a guiding system implemented to help patients get treated by the best doctors available." the guide explained, occasionally stopping in front of gates and reading aloud the specification of the doctors of that room.
Fengyu was surprised, an idea forming in his mind - this was it!
Among the three hospitals, this was definitely the best one!
But he still had a few questions which he might as well ask now since he already booked a tour -
"How is the payment in this hospital?" Fengyu asked a core question.
He had looked into the previous two ones too. The eastern hospital treated their disciples for free while outsiders needed to pay a large sum for treatment, making it more like a private hospital.
The Grand Spirit Hospital was funded by the city and treated minor ailments and injuries for free, while asking for partial payment for more serious ones. Though the treatment of most issues require pills, herbs or other things, which had to be paid by yourself.
He was curious how it would be here!
