Chapter 8: Lilith and Leonor

Edmund returned to his study and waited until night fell. His mind still lingered on Leonor’s second form.

A strong demonic aura. A twisted grin. A killing gaze.

If that is the Night Personality the system meant, what am I supposed to do with her?

He focused his eyes forward, looking past the glass wall and seeing Sebastian in the front yard.

In front of him stood 100 soldiers in white armor with white swords.

They stood upright in neat rows, shoulder to shoulder.

Sebastian explained his plan to them, about increasing city patrols and hunting down the murderer.

Edmund gave a faint smile, but his attention remained fixed ahead, not on Sebastian, but on the city streets.

I have to investigate myself whether the culprit is Leonor or not.

He turned his head and stepped forward, taking off his fur coat and changing his clothes. Not only that, Edmund also fastened his sword at his waist.

His abilities had returned, and his sword skills were well honed. There was no concern at all about Edmund’s safety.

The 100 soldiers of the Aschwin Family began to move and took positions in different areas according to their assigned posts.

Some went with city officials, while others went alone.

Sebastian had arranged everything properly and walked back into the mansion to report the details to Edmund.

Without Sebastian knowing, Edmund walked across the paved courtyard and left the mansion grounds.

He walked casually and blended in with the other townspeople. Street lamps began to light up, turned on manually by city workers.

The shop houses along both sides of the street shone brightly with lights, making the city feel alive and vibrant at night.

His steps came to a halt in front of Nisya’s two-story house. The light from the lamps illuminated the area, while the atmosphere remained quiet and silent.

His earlier meeting with Leonor, along with the appearance of that figure, had sparked Edmund’s suspicion.

She said... that she would meet me tonight. Was that really true?

He turned his head and observed the surrounding area. There were no townspeople outside.

Right as the clock struck 10 PM, everyone truly stayed inside their homes, doing nothing except obeying the curfew.

Edmund remained where he stood, continuing to stare at the two-story building.

After waiting for quite some time, his heart began pounding rapidly, and his nose caught the scent of roses coming from ahead.

Without hesitation, Edmund drew his sword and fully prepared himself. He was certain that the appearance of a red mist carrying the scent of roses was a bad sign.

CREEAAK!

The house door slowly opened, and Edmund’s attention sharpened as he stared straight ahead with piercing eyes.

From within the mist, a woman walked gracefully in a red dress. Her hands swayed elegantly as crimson light appeared in her palms.

She emerged from the red mist. She was Leonor.

But something was different.

"Leonor?" Edmund asked.

"Sigh!"

"Leonor is just the name of this body. I am Lilith!" she complained.

Her face and voice were Leonor’s, but the magical aura radiating from her body was far stronger. Something was clearly wrong with Leonor’s body.

"Alright, Lilith. Can I ask you to leave Leonor’s body?" Edmund asked.

"No," she said, smiling and laughing.

"This girl and I are like this," Lilith said, showing a gesture of her hands merging together inseparably.

"If you want Leonor, then you have to accept me too," Lilith said.

"What do you mean?" Edmund asked, confused.

"Let me show you, Edmund," Lilith replied.

She lifted her foot and moved quickly toward Edmund. Her speed was lightning fast, shocking him into stillness.

She’s... incredibly fast.

Lilith boldly extended both hands and opened Edmund’s shirt, popping the buttons and revealing his broad chest.

"Watch closely, Edmund."

Lilith raised her hand and touched his chest, forming a crimson magic rune.

Edmund panicked, not knowing what she was about to do. But moments later, she withdrew her hand and stepped back.

"What—"

"When you saved this girl, you were poisoned by Vyomir Poison."

"I came and burned the poison away, then shared half of my power," Lilith explained, her eyes not meeting Edmund’s, but fixed on the crimson flame tattoo on his chest.

Her hand rose and traced along his muscular chest and abdomen. Her breathing grew heavier and more erratic as she moved closer to him.

"I was impressed by your heroic act. So I decided to make you my partner," Lilith explained.

"What do I gain from this? You said you shared half your power," Edmund said.

"You can activate it while using your sword skills, of course."

Edmund quickly grabbed Lilith’s hand when she tried to reach lower on his body.

Lilith flinched, then looked up at him with a teasing smile.

"Put everything else aside. Were you the one who killed those seven people?" Edmund asked.

"I was hungry. I needed... the souls of living beings," Lilith said.

Her pupils were red, and the energy aura around her was also crimson. Her appearance resembled that of the Demon Kingdom of Mughort.

"If I give you souls every night, can you promise not to kill people?"

Lilith smiled, raised three fingers, and nodded.

"I promise."

"Can I trust your promise?" Edmund asked.

"HEY! We demons may be known as cruel, but we honor our promises. Not like you deceitful humans!" she snapped.

Edmund cleared his throat, unwilling to argue with someone who clearly would not back down.

Lilith had admitted that she killed those seven people, but Edmund could not simply hand Leonor over.

Especially after learning that the soul of the Demon Goddess Lilith resided within her.

He feared that if Leonor died, Lilith could fully awaken and bring massive destruction across the land.

The best choice was to protect Lilith’s identity and make sure she did not repeat her actions. Edmund would stay by her side to manage it.

"How long will you stay active in Leonor’s body?"

"I do not understand your question. But I will only take control of this girl’s body when I am hungry," Lilith answered.

"So after killing seven people yesterday, you are still not satisfied?" Edmund asked.

"Three."

"What?" Edmund asked.

Lilith raised her hand and held up three fingers. "I only killed three people."

Edmund was stunned. Lilith’s face did not look like someone who was lying. She kept staring at him as she said it.

"Then... who killed the rest?"
