Rebirth: I have Monopoly System
Chapter 65: Professional Lawyer
Wu Yun ignored Luo Heng’s praise and instead shouted to Sister Xin Ran, who was recording a video in the crowd, "Sister Xin Ran, you got all that on video, right? Send it out, and make sure everyone gets a copy!"
After saying this, Wu Yun made a call to his company’s legal department. "Lawyer Gu, I need you to contact a few lawyers for me—specialists in civil and criminal law. I just got into a fight! It should be considered self-defense. I have a video of the whole thing, and the security cameras should have captured some of it as well."
Lawyer Gu, on the other end of the line, was the head of Nirvana Technology’s legal department. Her expertise was in economic and corporate law, so she wasn’t very familiar with civil and criminal cases, but she had a wide network of contacts. That was why Wu Yun entrusted this to her.
After receiving Wu Yun’s call and hearing the general situation, Gu Zhen knew it wasn’t a major issue. With witnesses, physical evidence, and Wu Yun’s wealth, there was unlikely to be any problem.
So, Gu Zhen called a law firm belonging to a friend. She relayed Wu Yun’s situation and asked them to be on standby to meet him at whichever police station he was taken to.
After hanging up, Gu Zhen thought for a moment and decided to inform General Manager Li Qiuliang of the situation as well.
When Li Qiuliang answered the call and heard that Wu Yun had been in a fight and was about to be taken to the police station, he grew anxious. However, he breathed a sigh of relief after hearing Gu Zhen’s explanation.
’Little Red Car is about to launch. If something happens to Wu Yun, this company is in for a hard time.’
Li Qiuliang, who had just arrived home from work, didn’t even stop to eat. He told his wife something had come up, and ignoring her complaints that he should eat first, he got in his car and sped toward the law firm of Gu Zhen’s friend.
Back at the scene, the man who had been the first to be knocked down was using a stool to shakily pull himself to his feet. But before he could even get his balance, he plopped right back onto the ground, the world spinning around him.
A blow to the ear or the area just behind it can instantly disrupt a person’s sense of balance. A severe strike can even cause immediate unconsciousness, which is precisely what had happened to the group’s leader.
The police arrived quickly. After taking in the scene, an officer spoke into his radio, "Dispatch, send two more cars to this location. We need backup—there are a lot of people involved!"
「In the interrogation room of the police station.」
Wu Yun sat down facing the door. Across from him were two police officers; a middle-aged one led the questioning while a younger officer turned on a recording device, pen in hand, ready to take notes.
"Name!"
"Wu Yun," he replied calmly.
"Age!"
"Eighteen."
"Why were you fighting?"
"Officer, it wasn’t a fight. Those men were harassing my girlfriend! I only struck back in self-defense!" Wu Yun explained, completely unconcerned. ’After all, I have video evidence, which I’ve already sent to my lawyer and Li Qiuliang. I’m not afraid of anyone trying to pull any tricks. And even if that fails, I still have system props to teach them a lesson.’
"Oh? Tell me what happened then."
"It was like this. Our party had just started, and we were raising our glasses for a toast when those five men interrupted us. They were trying to force my girlfriend to add them on WeChat, and one of them even groped her. I stepped in to stop them. After that..." Wu Yun, whose Oratory Skill had also been leveled to Master, recounted the incident with vivid and compelling detail.
"So, you’re saying you took on five of them and knocked down four? Not bad, kid! Have you had training?" The middle-aged officer had been on the force for many years; there wasn’t much he hadn’t seen. The moment he’d arrived on scene, he’d gotten the gist of it—a classic case of thugs versus students. The only difference this time was that people were injured, but the ones who got hurt were the thugs.
"Yes, I’ve had training. Been practicing since I was a child," Wu Yun said nonchalantly. As the Strength Potion wore off, he felt a sudden sense of emptiness.
Wu Yun’s words, however, left the young officer beside him in awe. ’Even among the police,’ he thought, ’someone who can bare-handedly take down four or five armed, brawny men without a scratch is one in a million. There are probably only a handful of people in the entire country with that kind of skill.’
"Alright, you can step outside for now. Send his girlfriend in."
Wu Yun followed the young officer out of the interrogation room. He went to Wen Meng’s side and said, "Wen Meng, don’t be scared. Have faith in your boyfriend!"
Wu Yun was confident that the intelligent Wen Meng would understand his meaning.
About ten minutes later, the sound of leather shoes clicking on the floor echoed from the entrance of the police station. Li Qiuliang appeared, dressed in a white shirt and followed by a group of urban elites in summer business attire.
The officer on duty at the front desk stood up and asked, "May I help you?"
Li Qiuliang had already spotted Wu Yun and the others sitting on a bench. He nodded to a middle-aged lawyer behind him and then took a step back.
The middle-aged lawyer stepped forward, presented his business card, and said, "Hello, Officer. I am Wu Yun’s lawyer. I’m here for my client and would like to request a meeting with him."
Although he could already see Wu Yun, the middle-aged lawyer still made the formal request out of professional decorum.
The officer on duty had also seen the video, so he knew the thugs were almost entirely at fault. This group of students was unlikely to face any real trouble; they probably wouldn’t even have to pay damages.
In fact, one of the thugs had suffered a broken jaw. He could barely speak and had already been sent to the hospital for treatment.
After getting the officer’s permission, Li Qiuliang and his entourage immediately turned and walked toward Wu Yun’s group.
"President Wu! Are you alright?" Li Qiuliang hurried over, giving Wu Yun a quick once-over. Seeing that he was uninjured, Li Qiuliang breathed a sigh of relief.
Wu Yun stood up as well, smiling. "President Li, I’m fine. Everyone, thank you for coming. I’m sorry to trouble you all so late."
"It’s no trouble at all, President Wu," Li Qiuliang said, turning to make the introductions. "This is Lawyer Zhang Guowei from Guowei Law Firm, and these are his assistants."
"President Wu, a pleasure to meet you. I studied with Gu Zhen," Zhang Guowei said, extending his hand to Wu Yun.
As the lawyers were being briefed on the situation, Yang Shasha’s eyes shone as she stared at Wu Yun. He was no longer the hot-blooded young man from earlier at the restaurant; instead, he now radiated maturity, composure, and an indefinable aura.
Luo Heng listened to their conversation in stunned silence. He had assumed Wu Yun was just some rich kid, but it turned out he was the head of a company. As someone who was still asking his parents for money, Luo Heng felt utterly pathetic in comparison.
Just then, Wen Meng came out of the room. Wu Yun beckoned her over, took her hand, and said, "Lawyer Zhang, this is Wen Meng. She’s the one the thugs were harassing tonight."
All eyes turned to size up Wen Meng, and a look of "Ah, that explains it" appeared on their faces.
Li Qiuliang looked at the beautiful woman, who seemed completely transformed from her last visit to the company. ’With a figure like that, it’s no wonder she’d attract trouble,’ he thought to himself, sighing with envy. ’The life of a rich kid really is something else.’
"President Wu, leave the rest to me," Zhang Guowei said to Wu Yun with a confident smile. "Barring any surprises, you all should be able to go home shortly. Our team will handle all the follow-up." Ordinarily, a case like this wouldn’t have required his personal attention, but he took the call from his junior colleague seriously. Besides, he was keen to expand his network and get acquainted with a potential major client like Wu Yun.
Zhang Guowei thought to himself that with this many witnesses and this much hard evidence, it would be an insult to his professional expertise if he couldn’t secure a clear self-defense ruling for Wu Yun and send those thugs to jail for a few days.
