Reborn As Noble
Chapter 1240: A Council of Shadows ( )
"Ehhh? That soon?" Gracelle’s eyes widened, her voice trembling with surprise as she looked at Liana.
"Yes. It’s up to you whether you want to or not. You can meet him tomorrow morning, or wait until he’s too busy to see you for a long time."
Gracelle fell silent, her fingers gripping the edge of the blanket as she stared at it, her mind racing with thoughts and worries.
Liana stood up gracefully, stretching her arms above her head with a soft sigh, then smiled down at Gracelle.
"Think about it now, Gracelle, before I leave this room." Liana glanced at the clock visible through the glass partition of the ICU, "It’s already night, and it’s time for both of us to rest. And since you’re still recovering, enough rest is essential for you to regain your strength."
Gracelle let out a soft exhale and looked up at Liana, her eyes searching.
"Will you be there... when I meet him?"
Liana smiled softly behind her mask. "If you want me to be, I will be there and stay by your side when you meet him."
Ah~ Of course I’ll be there. I’m not going to miss the chance to see her flustered expression when she finally meets Young Master face to face.
And I also want to see Young Master’s reaction when he realizes she didn’t even recognize him~
Gracelle fidgeted, mumbling softly behind her blanket. "Umm... okay... t... thank you... Miss Liana."
Liana smirked behind her mask and nodded. "So, you’ll meet him tomorrow morning then. I’ll inform Young Master about this arrangement and make sure everything is prepared. For now, I’ll take my leave."
"Umm... okay... thank you again." Gracelle smiled faintly.
Liana narrowed her eyes with a hidden smile.
Ah~ No need to thank me... because I’ll be getting exactly what I want, a priceless reaction that I’ll treasure forever.
Liana turned toward the door and walked gracefully, waving back at Gracelle over her shoulder.
"Sleep well, Gracelle... tomorrow is an important day for you. I’ll be here in the morning."
Gracelle smiled, a hint of excitement flickering in her eyes as she watched Liana walk toward the door.
"Mm... okay..."
After Liana stepped out of the ICU room, she glanced around and noticed everyone was stiff, their shoulders tense, eyes darting anywhere but at her.
Hmm? I wonder why everyone I meet lately always looks so tense around me...
Whatever...
I should head back to my room.
Just as she was about to say something to Myra, her mana talkie buzzed softly.
"Liana? Where are you?"
Liana tapped her mana talkie. "I’m in the room in the next building. Why?"
"Ah... I thought you were already finished your visit."
"Mm~ I just finished here, Young Master. Why? Miss me?"
A soft laugh came through the mana talkie.
Liana shook her head and smiled. "I won’t be long, Young Master. Are you still playing with your Pekko? Hmm?"
"Ah... no... I just grilled some meat for him."
"Ara? Don’t tell me the staff hadn’t already fed Buddy?"
"Ehehe~ You know how Buddy is. This glutton could keep eating even after his stomach is about to burst."
"Cuquawked!!" a loud squawk came through the mana talkie.
Liana chuckled again when she heard Javier shouting in the background.
"Oi! That’s not even fully cooked yet! And that’s my portion! Oi, Buddy! Stop it!"
Liana smiled softly, her heart warming at the sound of his voice.
I’m glad he’s back to his usual self.
"Young Master?"
"Hmm? Yes, Liana?"
"Wasn’t your father nearby? I saw him feeding his golden Pekko, Giddie, earlier."
"Ah... about that... errr... he’s indeed... around..." Javier whispered in a low voice. "And Giddie is coming here... maybe because I was shouting at Buddy, or perhaps... because of the meat smell... Ah... crap... Father’s here... Talk to you later!"
Liana turned her glance toward Myra.
"Myra?"
"Y... yes, Miss Liana?" Myra stood up quickly, her posture stiff and attentive.
"Contact me through mana talkie if something urgent happens, or if her condition changes unexpectedly."
"Mm... okay, Miss Liana."
Liana gave her and the others another firm glance. "Just contact me through mana talkie. If there’s no response, contact the staff or a maid to find me. No need for any of the healer unit to come looking for me personally."
Myra bowed gracefully, her tone respectful. "Understood, Miss Liana. I’ll make sure to follow your instructions."
"Mm... I’m taking my leave now. And since we’ll be returning to Armand tomorrow morning, make sure to adjust everyone’s shifts so they can get enough rest."
"As you command, Miss Liana."
Liana exhaled softly and headed toward the Zone One room, where she removed her scrub, cap, and mask, adjusting her maid dress back into place.
I should go check on Young Master before we head back to our room.
Meanwhile.
Amazarak Fallen Kingdom.
A mysterious group had assembled in the main hall of the Amazarak palace. Figures cloaked in dark, foreign armor sat around the long table, accompanied by their own escorts standing silently behind them.
One man sat at the head of the table, massive and broad-shouldered, his muscles straining against his dark armor. A huge broadsword rested against the armrest of his chair. He leaned back, arms crossed, his stern, no-nonsense face fixed in a scowl.
"Why the fuck do I, the proud summoned heroes blessed by the Supreme Goddess Zeyrinda, have to wait for those lowly trash from the followers of the lower goddesses Maekaria and Rafazelia?"
Another figure at the table chuckled softly, a woman with sharp eyes and a teasing smile.
"Careful, Sir Gorak. If those two goddesses hear you speak their names so casually, even the Supreme Goddess might not be able to shield you from their wrath."
"Hmmph." The big man scoffed, his voice dripping with arrogance. "I’m not worried about that. The Supreme Goddess Zeyrinda will surely cover me. She chose me for a reason. I was one of her chosen heroes. Those lower goddesses and their followers are nothing but obstacles to be crushed."
He gripped the handle of his massive sword, his knuckles white with barely restrained anger.
"The Supreme Goddess Zeyrinda blessed me with this divine weapon. One of the twenty most powerful in existence. Even if I am the weakest among the twenty summoned heroes, I am still far stronger than all those so-called ’chosen ones’ blessed by those lower goddesses."
He narrowed his eyes and crossed his arms again, his jaw clenched in frustration.
"And yet those fucking lowly chosen people, not even summoned heroes! Just a mere mortals from this continent, dare to make me wait? Me!? A hero chosen by the Supreme Goddess herself! They should be kneeling at my feet the moment I arrive, not keeping me waiting like some common merchant!"
The woman chuckled softly, while the others around the table smirked.
"Good thing we were chosen amongs the Supreme Goddess Zeyrinda’s followers, blessed, strong, and capable of assisting you, Sir Gorak. Unlike those others..."
"Right?" Gorak grinned darkly, his ego swelling at the praise. "Even you all are stronger than those trash we’re waiting for. That’s why I’m mad. Ugh! If not because the Supreme Goddess told me not to kill or harm them, I would have already beheaded every single one of them and stacked their heads at the palace gates as a warning."
