Chapter 2022: Chapter 1925: Astronomical Figures

Huo Sining slept deeply, lost in her dreams, while on the other side, Jiang Weide seemed to have a sense, vaguely feeling that something bad was going to happen. He was plagued by nightmares throughout the night and woke up in fright early in the morning, unable to fall back asleep, tossing and turning in bed for a long time before finally getting up with a gloomy face.

Feeling not great, Jiang Weide dialed a phone number, and as the call connected, a woman’s flattering voice came through from the other side: "Boss Jiang..."

"If you still can’t get your nephew to sell the house to me today, then let’s just forget about our deal."

Jiang Weide wasn’t courteous as he spoke, and hearing this, the person on the other end immediately got anxious, speaking in a panicked and hurried manner: "Don’t worry, I will make sure that kid agrees, there won’t be any problems."

Jiang Weide hung up the phone without another word, but even after ending the call, his mood didn’t improve, feeling like something was pressing on his chest, inexplicably heavy, and making him restless.

"What’s wrong? You’re in a bad mood early in the morning, that’s not good for your health."

Seeing her husband wake up with a gloomy complexion, a hand reached out from beside him, gently patting Jiang Weide’s chest and back as if to soothe him.

Jiang Weide turned his head to look at his wife, who, though she opened her eyes, still appeared drowsy. He wanted to say something but swallowed his words. After thinking for a while, he turned back, returning to bed to cuddle with his wife for a little more sleep.

However, his plan to sleep a bit longer was destined to be interrupted. He had just lain down when the phone rang sharply, like an unwelcome alarm. Jiang Weide grabbed the phone and pressed the answer button, hearing a hurried voice shouting:

"Boss Jiang, something’s happened, there’s a big issue at the cold storage!"

Jiang Weide’s entire body trembled, immediately forsaking the warm embrace, and he abruptly sat up, hastily donning clothes and rushing out.

In a rush, he arrived at the dock, which was already past nine in the morning. The dock was surrounded by onlookers, curious about the commotion. On the outskirts, there were both a police car and an electrical repair van. The large iron gates of the cold storage were shut tight, but through the iron bars, the inside could still be seen. Several police officers were taking statements from two workers guarding the cold storage, while on the other side, a few officers and electricians squatted outside the electrical box, seemingly inspecting something.

Seeing the situation, Jiang Weide’s heart tightened. He hurriedly parked his car, and the spectators, seeing the main character arrive, shouted, "Boss Jiang is here," and opened a path for him, allowing Jiang Weide to smoothly enter the cold storage premises. However, the expressions on these people’s faces were filled with schadenfreude, not a trace of sympathy or pity.

Most of these spectators were local fishermen, with their boats often anchored at the dock. After fishing, the catch was often stored in the cold storage. But due to Jiang Weide’s unscrupulous practices, these fishermen had suffered losses.

Hence, these people were naturally pleased about the mishap at the cold storage, even hoping that Jiang Weide’s facility would fail. This way, the former business owners could return to conduct their business.

"Hey, what’s going on here?" A few newcomers, having not yet grasped the situation, couldn’t help but inquire discreetly.

The fisherman being asked, evidently seasoned from frequent sea voyages, had a sun-tanned complexion but was visibly in high spirits, his mouth stretching wide, face creased with lines, almost bursting into a smile:

"You don’t know, do you? We were the first to hear about it. Last night, several of us went out to sea, and only returned to the dock around four in the morning. After sorting the catch meticulously, we planned to deliver the batch to the cold storage."

"But as we reached the cold storage and had just stored the goods, we heard that something had happened, several workers were ushering us out, and someone reported that the electric meter was broken, accumulating over ten million degrees overnight."

Hearing this news, the few newcomers gasped: "Over ten million degrees?"

Those nearby also thought their companion had heard wrong: "That’s impossible, right? Even if all the machines were to be turned on overnight, the cold storage couldn’t consume that much electricity, could it? You’re sure you didn’t mishear, it’s probably over a thousand degrees?"

The fisherman sharing the scoop got anxious: "I didn’t mishear, it was indeed over ten million. I heard from the workers that the cold storage uses the latest three-phase digital meter, capable of displaying nine digits, and it shot up to eight digits overnight, scaring the staff stiff."

The crowd exchanged bewildered glances, entirely baffled by the situation.

"Could it be someone stealing electricity? But that doesn’t add up. First, stealing electricity couldn’t target the cold storage, and second, over a night, nothing could use over ten million degrees." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

"Could the meter really be malfunctioning?"

"I also think there’s an issue with the meter. Over ten million degrees of electricity – none of us could use that much in a lifetime."

"..."

The surrounding discussion was lively, and Jiang Weide strode straight through the crowd, entering the cold storage gates. In the courtyard, several frantic employees seemed to have found their backbone, eagerly approaching him: "Boss Jiang, thank goodness you’re here!"

Jiang Weide’s face darkened as he asked, "What exactly happened here?"

Having rushed over upon receiving the call, Jiang Weide knew something had gone wrong at the cold storage, but hadn’t had time to ask about the particulars.

Upon his inquiry, the employees fell silent, exchanging uneasy glances, none daring to speak up.

Seeing the employees avoiding explanation, Jiang Weide’s anger flared further. Just as he was about to reprimand them, the officers taking statements approached, formally stating:

"Are you the person in charge of the cold storage, Jiang Weide? Hello, we’re officers from Dongcheng Police Station, here’s my badge."

In recent years, Jiang Weide’s status had changed significantly, surrounded by powerful figures, even officials treated him with courtesy. Unexpectedly, these officers spoke bluntly, arousing Jiang Weide’s displeasure.

Yet before he could dwell on his irritation, the officer’s subsequent words caused his expression to change drastically.

"Mr. Jiang, we’ve received a report informing us that your employees discovered the cold storage’s electric meter box registering an extra thirteen million seven hundred sixty thousand degrees of electricity overnight, prompting us to investigate. Current inspection shows no issue with your cold storage’s meter; electricians are conducting further checks. Please ensure both you and your employees actively cooperate with our investigation."
