Reborn In The 90's: Saving My Siblings With A Fishing System
Chapter 177: Not following the customs
Meng Yunhan knew that the villagers were waiting to mock her and her daughter. If Han Ziyan went to the shore, then there is a good chance that her daughter would be mocked by the people of the village. It was better for her to stay at home than go there. Why was she going there to join in the fun? What if she were mocked to death by others?
"Mom, someone has to go there. This is not a small thing." Han Ziyan rolled her eyes and made a random excuse at once. She then said to her mother, "Mom, it’s not that I don’t want to go there, but my sister has bought a motorboat, and she has become the pride of the village. If no one from our home goes there, then the villagers will say that we, as her own relatives, are jealous of her. We cannot do that; one of us needs to go there even if we don’t want to, but you cannot go because the matter from a few days ago is still fresh in the minds of the villagers. So I will go; I am used to listening to their scathing remarks."
Han Ziyan was worried that her mother would go in her place and reminded her of what happened a few days ago. If not for that young man, she would have allowed her mother to go in her place, but she couldn’t. Because she wanted to get closer to that young man, she had no choice but to bite this bullet.
Meng Yunhan was quite touched when she heard that her daughter was thinking about her well-being. She also knew that Han Ruochen had bought the motorboat, and it was supposed to be delivered today. As her mother, she should have gone to look for Han Ruochen, but Meng Yunhan deliberately did not go to the shore and even hid in her house because she did not want to hear the insults of the villagers.
Now, everyone in the village kept saying that she was a rather selfish woman who was jealous of her own daughter.
Meng Yunhan wanted to fight with the neighbours, but she did not dare to; after all, it was she who was at fault and was caught in the act. If she had been careful, then she wouldn’t have been caught by the neighbours and become a joke in the eyes of others.
"Ziyan, you really are my good daughter. Unlike that unfilial Han Ruochen, you truly care about me." Meng Yunhan felt quite emotional and wanted to hug Han Ziyan. But she held herself back and said to her, "You go and check on the motorboat. See what is going on at the shore."
Han Ziyan heaved a sigh of relief when she heard her mother say that she could go. She was worried that her mother would stop her from going, and that would be really troublesome!
She smiled at her mother and then took her leave before heading to the shore.
On the other side, Han Ruochen was looking at her motorboat that had been delivered a day earlier. She looked at the fibreglass hull and felt a surge of emotion in her heart. Finally, she had gotten her hands on the motorboat that she dreamed of. Now she was no longer a poor woman who had no assets in her hands. She was now the owner of this motorboat!
"She is so beautiful," Tong Zhaodi said, her voice thick with emotion as she raised her hand and tentatively touched the boat, but flinched and pulled her hand back right in time. It was as if she were worried that the boat might break with just her touch alone.
Zhai Heng, who also came to join the fun, grinned at the sight of the motorboat and nodded. "I never thought that fishing was so profitable. You were able to buy a boat so quickly; usually it takes thirty to forty years."
He didn’t know what to feel at that moment. He thought that as long as Han Ruochen was his friend, he could look after her and even take care of her, but it seemed like he had underestimated her. This woman could buy a motorboat on her own, even when her family was suffering. He thought that he could give Han Ruochen some money and repay her for what she had done for him, but did she need the money when she could easily get her own? He did not believe so!
Han Ruochen did not know what was going on in the mind of the man behind her; if she did, then she would have told him that it was not that easy to earn this money. She was only lucky because she was favoured by the heavens and had the sea scanning system with her.
"Young man, it is indeed hard for us fishermen to buy a motorboat; usually, we cannot buy one until we are forty or even fifty." Old Man Lin chuckled and spoke with a hint of pride in his tone. "It’s just that Han Ruochen is favoured by the god of the sea, so she was able to buy the boat so quickly. Only those who deserve it can buy a motorboat."
The other villagers also hummed in agreement. "That’s true. Han Ruochen is not even thirty, and yet she already has a motorboat under her name. Sure enough, the genes of Old Master Han could never have failed the Han family."
However, while everyone was quite proud of Han Ruochen, for she was the youngest owner of the motorboat, there were countless people who were upset over the fact that Han Ruochen was able to get a motorboat. One of them was Widow Wang.
Ever since her husband was swallowed by the sea, her family had gotten worse and worse; she was also kicked out by her in-laws because she was deemed unlucky by them. She sneered, and with a swish of her hips, she walked out of the crowd and stated in a harsh and mean voice, "A woman getting on a boat? I wonder when we forget all about our own customs. A woman should never be allowed on a boat. Wasn’t this how it has always been?"
