Reborn with a Space: Hoarding Food and Raising My Kid
Chapter 145 - 133: Where’s the Car! How Is It Gone?
After they summarized Joel Bloom’s condition, they relayed it to Flora Bloom, Caleb Bloom, and Jade. Flora and Caleb remained relatively calm, but Jade gripped her son’s hand, silently enduring her worry and heartache.
"The hospital we were just at should have all the surgical equipment we need. Mr. Wallace, Cynthia, you’re coming with me. We’ll see what we need, move it all back, and operate on my brother right here!"
Neal Wallace and Cynthia Grant nodded. They then watched Flora Bloom walk over to the OB/GYN who was resting on the floor. "Ms. Preston," she said, "I need to ask for a favor. You’re a Red Cross doctor, so you know the layout there. I’d like you to lead the way."
Maeve Preston was a doctor in her forties. Although her looks were average, her features and bearing radiated an intellectual strength. Even though she was now emaciated, that air about her remained.
Maeve Preston overheard their conversation, and she didn’t actually agree with Flora Bloom’s words. "Flora Bloom, you want to bring all that equipment back here to operate on your brother, but first, that’s all large-scale machinery. It’ll be very difficult to bring it here. Also, even if you manage it, the environment here is nowhere near the sanitation standards required for surgery. You need to think this through. Even if the operation is a success, a post-operative infection would be even more terrifying!"
Flora Bloom showed no displeasure at Maeve Preston’s skepticism. On the contrary, she mentally applauded her for such a comprehensive perspective.
"Don’t worry, Ms. Preston. We can definitely get the machines back, and you don’t need to worry about the environment either. You’ll see when the time comes."
Flora Bloom explained her plan to the others and told a few of them to wait there. She added, "If any of these people try to escape or cause any trouble, just kill them. Leave two alive so Joel can have the satisfaction of getting his revenge once he’s better." There were also two Gold Ability Users and her little pets left at the weather station, so she believed it would be safe even in her absence.
These words struck the crowd like a bolt from the blue. Anyone who had been planning to cause trouble and escape once Flora Bloom was gone immediately gave up the idea.
Maeve Preston assumed Flora Bloom had a good plan and nodded, agreeing to lead them to the necessary surgical equipment.
This time, Flora Bloom didn’t bring Behemoth. After the creature and her little pets had worked together at the entrance to hunt down the zombie horde, the surrounding area had been completely cleared of them. It wouldn’t be dangerous even if they went on foot.
They reached the gate of the weather station. By the side of the road, Flora Bloom took the military vehicle out of her space. Under Maeve Preston’s incredulous gaze, she told everyone to get in.
There was no danger outside because Behemoth and her little pets had already cleared the area.
The real danger was inside the hospital: the patients, doctors, and nurses in every department building who had turned into zombies. They were impossible to fully guard against. So this time, Flora Bloom brought Snowy and Golden Cicada with her.
Snowy had a lightning area-of-effect skill, and Golden Cicada had a roaring sonic wave attack. Plus, Neal Wallace and Cynthia Grant were both Second-level Superpower Users. ’Even though I’m only a Second-level Water Ability User myself,’ she thought, ’as long as we’re careful, there shouldn’t be any danger.’
Flora Bloom, Neal Wallace, Cynthia Grant, and Maeve Preston returned to the hospital together. This time, they drove directly through the main gate and, following Maeve Preston’s directions, parked in front of the Thoracic Surgery Building.
Because Maeve Preston was weak and an ordinary person, Flora Bloom gave her a bottle of undiluted Space Spirit Water and told her to drink it quickly.
After drinking the spiritual water, not only did Maeve Preston’s body recover its original functions, but her stamina—which had partially returned after she’d eaten—was now fully restored. The only thing unchanged was her thinness.
She now looked at Flora Bloom as if she were a savior. ’This girl is simply godlike! She can control all those monstrous animals, materialize a car out of thin air, and she even possesses this amazing water that restores the body.’
In her heart, Flora Bloom was now nothing short of omnipotent, so she began to follow her words with exceptional obedience.
’From now on, whatever she says must be right. Even if it’s wrong, it’s right! I can’t refute it, and I don’t want to!’
"This is the Thoracic Surgery Building. The operating rooms are on the second floor, and medical storage is on the first floor, around the corner at the far end."
The Thoracic Surgery Building didn’t have as many zombies as the OB/GYN building, and certainly none of the pregnant zombies. Neal Wallace’s fire easily cleared a path, and they cleaned out the zombies with great speed.
Everything went smoothly on Flora Bloom’s end. X-ray machines, operating tables, various surgical tools, an ECG machine, a blood oxygen monitor, equipment for IV drips and transfusions—every conceivable medication and piece of equipment they might need was packed away into her space.
Maeve Preston’s jaw dropped as she watched Flora Bloom make one piece of equipment after another, large and small, disappear in her hands. "This... could this be the Space Ability Shelly was talking about?" Shelly was the young nurse traveling with them who loved reading novels and handsome men.
But if it weren’t for her love of handsome men, they wouldn’t have found Joel Bloom so quickly.
Flora Bloom smiled faintly. "Yes, it is. But the space isn’t very big. After packing all this in, there’s only a tiny spot left."
After collecting some sterilization equipment, the group went downstairs to head back. But when they got downstairs, they were dumbfounded.
And the most dumbfounded of all was Flora Bloom.
’I figured I’d leave the car parked downstairs this time instead of putting it back in my space. It would make for a convenient getaway.’ But when they got downstairs, the spot where the car had been was completely empty.
’This isn’t before the apocalypse, where you get reported for illegal parking and the traffic police come tow your car away.’
’There wasn’t even a key in it. Whoever could steal a military vehicle like this must be a pro, a real expert. I can’t believe someone else was hiding in the hospital. I should’ve just put the car back in my space!’
Meanwhile, a certain car thief, who had been following Flora Bloom all the way from the coast, had no idea that this time, he had truly bitten off more than he could chew. As he was smugly dismantling the military vehicle’s internal devices, far away in Argent, Lex Cross received an alert from the car’s internal alarm system.
The alarms built into military vehicles used a satellite positioning system to locate the vehicle. That was why people generally didn’t mess with them. But in the current apocalypse, every corner was filled with the unknown and tests of human nature.
Lex Cross stared at the vehicle’s serial number displayed on the alarm. It was the very one he had given to Flora Bloom.
His sharp brows furrowed, and his hawk-like eyes revealed a mix of contemplation and danger.
He said to Five and Saul Sterling, who were beside him, "Let’s go."
Five was completely confused. "Go where, Boss? Weren’t we supposed to go see your blind little brother today? I haven’t had enough fun mocking him yet!"
Saul Sterling nudged Five’s arm. "Are you stupid? Didn’t you see whose car alarm went off?"
Five stared at the serial number on the alarm, thinking for a long moment before it finally dawned on him. "Boss, don’t tell me something’s happened to sister-in-law?"
Five’s words earned him a sharp glare from Lex Cross, which made him immediately shut up and slap his own mouth several times. "I take it back, I take it back! Sister-in-law is incredibly capable, how could anything happen to her! Hahaha, Boss, when are we leaving? Have you located the alarm?"
"Morhaven."
.........
With Flora Bloom’s car stolen, they had no choice. Without transportation, the group could only walk back to the weather station building on their own two feet.
On the way, they passed the OB/GYN building again. Flora Bloom stroked her belly, paused, and came to a stop.
"Ms. Preston, I need to ask you for a favor!" Neal Wallace and Cynthia Grant, who knew about Flora Bloom’s condition, had a good idea of her intentions the moment she stopped in front of the OB/GYN building.
The group went up to the third floor of the OB/GYN building together. Flora Bloom pulled Maeve Preston into an examination room that looked relatively clean, replaced the sheet with a disposable pad, and lay down.
