Chapter 150: Chapter 138: Bastard! Don’t Let Me Catch You

The sky outside was gradually darkening when, just then, Vert sent her a message. They had besieged the creature for half the day, but the Level 3 zombie had actually managed to escape!

The Level 3 zombie was a speed-type variant. Not only did it possess near-human intelligence, but it could also command hordes of other zombies.

Its speed-type mutation played a decisive role in its escape.

When a Level 3 zombie wanted to run—especially a speed-type variant—almost no one could stop it. Juggernaut could have, but Flora Bloom had ordered it not to stray too far from the weather station.

Without Juggernaut to hold the line, and with Vert inside the weather station keeping an eye on that group of people, Monkey Two and Monkey Three didn’t dare to give chase rashly.

Flora Bloom picked up her axe, told everyone not to go outside, and then left the building to rendezvous with Monkey Two and Monkey Three.

Normally, Flora Bloom’s Second Level Water Ability wouldn’t have been enough to handle a Level 3 zombie, even with Monkey Two and Monkey Three helping. But Morhaven was surrounded by the sea, practically a large island floating on the water. Despite the scorching weather, Water Energy was abundant.

In a place so rich with Water Energy, she was far more effective than a Fire Ability User.

"Vert, where is it now?"

"It’s heading toward the hospital!"

Flora Bloom waved to Monkey Two and Monkey Three, had Juggernaut stay behind to stand guard, and then said, "Let’s go!"

And so the pursuit began: one human with a reinforced axe, two giant monkeys, two giant peacocks, one giant pangolin, and, of course, a massive, fat golden cicada flying overhead.

The human and her six pets headed toward the hospital.

From a distance, Flora Bloom could see the Level 3 zombie skulking around the hospital entrance, cautiously observing its surroundings.

The intelligence of a Level 3 zombie was truly on another level compared to a Second Level one. It even knew how to scout the area.

Flora Bloom concentrated, and a white, misty vapor began to rise up around her. The water particles were minuscule and spread with incredible speed. Soon, she and her six pets were completely enveloped in a thick white fog. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

Whether viewed from up close or afar, it looked like a natural patch of fog. No matter how intelligent the Level 3 zombie was, it would never suspect that a human and six evolved creatures were hiding within it.

Moreover, the fog enveloping Flora Bloom and her companions masked the unique scent of the evolved creatures. The Level 3 zombie wouldn’t be able to sniff them out, no matter how keen its sense of smell was.

The mist gradually spread out, creeping from Flora Bloom’s position toward the hospital until, completely unbeknownst to the Level 3 zombie, it too was shrouded within.

The fog Flora Bloom created was like a special field that obeyed her every command. It expanded her own senses and granted vision to her evolved creatures while simultaneously disorienting the enemy Level 3 zombie.

The Level 3 zombie wandered around in Flora Bloom’s mist for ages, unable to find the entrance to the hospital. It had been drawn there by the scent of humans, intending to go inside for a meal.

’Some powerful evolved creatures showed up at the weather station, and I couldn’t beat them in a one-on-one fight or a group battle. Good thing I’m a speed-type. I got out of there the second things looked bad.’

’If you can’t beat ’em, find a new place to eat! That’s why I came over to the hospital.’

What it hadn’t expected was that Flora Bloom—already fuming because of her brother and then learning that her pets had failed to capture it—was now bearing down on it with her six evolved creatures, her stomach full of pent-up rage.

’Before,’ Flora thought, ’even after reaching the Second Level, I wouldn’t have dared fight a Level 3 zombie. The power gap between levels is just too wide.’

’But after what happened in Azuregard City, I discovered that in places with abundant water, I can create this mist—it’s almost like a field of Water Energy—to weaken my opponents.’

’Plus, I have six evolved creatures on my side, and I’ve been at the Second Superpower Level for a while now. I desperately need a real fight to hone my combat techniques.’

’And while I’m at it, I’ll take its Level 3 Zombie Crystal Core.’

SCREECH! A deafening, sonic-like shriek suddenly rang out. The Level 3 zombie’s heart sank. ’Damn it, it’s a trap!’ It was still dazed from the sonic attack when an axe split a deep gash across its forehead.

The gash was so deep that its brain matter began to ooze out. Black veins, which had receded, bulged once more on its formerly flawless face. Combined with its pure white, pupil-less eyes, the sight was utterly grotesque in the mist.

SCREECH! Vert unleashed another sonic attack at the perfect moment.

Flora Bloom’s axe struck the same wound again. The cumulative force of the two blows sliced off a quarter of the Level 3 zombie’s head, revealing a transparent Zombie Crystal Core that glinted with a dark luster.

But the scene was bizarre no matter how you looked at it. Imagine: a Level 3 zombie that looked almost human, yet it wasn’t dead even with a quarter of its skull lopped off.

Once it lost its Crystal Core, the Level 3 zombie lost its power source. It instantly became a true corpse and collapsed to the ground in front of the hospital gate.

Flora Bloom held the Level 3 Zombie Crystal Core she had taken from the creature and dispelled the mist. Then, she used her Water Ability to wash the core clean.

But suddenly, Flora Bloom froze. A voice rang out, "Thanks!"

The Crystal Core in her hand was snatched away by a man’s hand.

"Who are you?!"

All she saw was the back of a man in black, probably over five-foot-nine, who vanished into thin air just a short distance away.

The man’s disappearance reminded Flora Bloom of Lex Cross. Two people on his team, The Crown Prince and another called Raccoon Cat, also had similar stealth abilities.

Especially at night, they could come and go without a trace, their movements impossible to follow. Or rather, there was a trace. The man who stole her Crystal Core gave off a distinct superpower fluctuation, but she had never considered that an opportunist might be lurking nearby, waiting to swoop in. She hadn’t been actively sensing for other superpower signatures in the area.

’Damn it all, why is my luck so rotten today?’ she fumed. ’I finally find my brother, only to get tangled up with some "white lotus" schemer claiming she’s pregnant with his kid.’

’And now this! I fight my ass off for ages, and the second it’s over, some guy I don’t even get a look at says "thanks" and just snatches my Level 3 Zombie Crystal Core. Un-freaking-believable!’

"You son of a bitch! You better hope I never find you! The day I catch you, I’ll beat you so bad your own mother won’t recognize you!"

Flora Bloom was just trying to vent, screaming into the night where the man had vanished.

But to her surprise, a man’s cool yet mischievous voice echoed back from the empty darkness. "Don’t be so angry! If another sweet deal like this comes along, I’ll be sure to come find you again!"

SCREECH! At Flora Bloom’s command, Vert blasted the empty air where the voice had come from with a sonic attack, but no suspicious figure appeared.

Flora Bloom let out a furious "AARGH!" and began taking out her anger on the scattered zombies wandering nearby, leading her six evolved creatures on a rampage.

Without the Level 3 zombie to summon them, the number of zombies in the area dwindled. After Flora Bloom spent more than two hours on a vengeful cleaning spree, the area around the hospital and the weather station became the safest zone in all of Morhaven.
