Reborn with My Genius Husband
Chapter 253 - 263: We’ll Have 1 to Show Them and Live Up to Expectations
The exam was on May 8th. Lately, Holly Winslow had been studying at home for her teacher certification test. During this time, she skipped one evening study session because it was a repeat lecture, so there wasn’t much point in attending again.
So, she skipped class to work on practice questions for the certification exam at home. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
One day, Anna Willow didn’t have classes, so she went to keep Zeke Zane company in his lecture.
While Zeke Zane listened to the lecture, she sat beside him working on her English practice questions. She had failed the CET-6 exam three times and was running out of chances to pass.
She hadn’t even finished a few questions when Zeke Zane, sitting next to her, tapped her paper. He was telling her she’d gotten it wrong and needed to do it again.
Anna Willow looked it over a few more times. The sentence was right there in the text. She mumbled under her breath, "I’m not wrong."
Completely self-assured.
Zeke Zane: "..."
’I’m never wrong.’ He had no idea where she got this confidence, always convinced that every answer she put down was correct.
"My Queen, this question is wrong."
Anna Willow cracked a smile, then mumbled again, "If the question is wrong, go tell the question. Telling me is useless."
Zeke Zane: "..."
He pointed at the question on the paper. "The question asks who Tom met after lunch, not what he ate for lunch, which is option B."
"Oh." Anna Willow stuck out her tongue. "They don’t ask what he ate, they ask who he met. The person who wrote this question is sick."
Zeke Zane: "..."
He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "Just hurry up and finish. When you’re done, we’ll get dry pot shrimp for lunch."
Anna Willow’s eyes lit up. She never forgot to include Holly Winslow in things like this. "I’ll ask Holly to come with us."
Zeke Zane nodded, used to it by now.
The professor had been watching them for a minute or two. He stopped his lecture. "You two in the black and white sweatshirts, what are you discussing? When you’re getting married?"
Because of Mortimer Quincy and Holly Winslow, a new catchphrase was making the rounds on campus: "Have you gotten married today?"
The whole class burst into laughter.
Zeke Zane and Anna Willow: "..."
Anna Willow shrank back like a turtle pulling its head into its shell.
After class, just as the two of them were heading down the stairs, they overheard a group of girls from one of the dorms talking as they walked. "Holly Winslow from the math department hasn’t been on campus for days. She doesn’t even show up for Mortimer Quincy’s classes anymore. Do you think she might be pregnant?"
"I don’t know, but I think so. Why else would she stop coming to class?"
Skipping class was perfectly normal for other students, but Holly Winslow was different. She hadn’t skipped a single class in two semesters.
Curious, Anna Willow sidled closer to hear what else they were saying.
"Hehe, Mortimer Quincy must be pretty good at... you know."
"Hahaha, so dirty, so dirty!"
"But their love story is seriously so sweet. From high school to college, from college to marriage, and now they might even have a little baby on the way."
"Talk about a double victory in love and academics."
"You can’t even be jealous; they’re just too outstanding. I heard a professor in the finance department is already planning to recommend Mortimer Quincy for graduate school."
"And he’s not even a senior yet. The special treatment is so blatant."
Anna Willow didn’t like that they were only talking about how great Mortimer Quincy was. Her Holly was outstanding too, extremely outstanding. "I think Holly Winslow is pretty amazing, you know."
The group of girls was clearly taken aback by her sudden interruption, but after a moment, they didn’t seem to mind. The girl in the black denim jacket said, "Holly Winslow has always been outstanding. She’s ranked second in the math department."
"Hahahaha, she really is amazing." Anna Willow beamed and pulled a handful of candy from her pocket to give to them. "Here, have some."
This was the wedding candy she had asked Holly Winslow to buy at the supermarket. Holly had given her a huge bag, and she carried a handful in her pocket every day.
Not long after, Holly Winslow got a call from Anna Willow. She was looking over a paper and writing as she answered. Before she could even speak, Anna asked in a hushed voice, "Holly, are you pregnant?"
Holly Winslow choked on her own saliva when she heard the question. "..."
"Anna, what nonsense are you talking about?"
’Pregnant?’
’Ahem, how could I get pregnant by myself? Mortimer has been working overtime lately.’
’If I really were pregnant, that guy Mortimer would probably explode on the spot.’
On the other end of the line, Anna Willow chuckled. "Hehe," she explained, "I came to your campus to find Zeke Zane and overheard some people saying you haven’t been to class in a while and that you’re pregnant."
Holly Winslow: "..."
She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "I’m going to sue them for spreading rumors! I’ve been at home studying for my teacher certification! Anna, I can’t believe you actually fell for it. We’re through!"
"No, don’t say that!" Anna Willow laughed placatingly. "Hehe. I was just worried about you, that’s all. Besides, there’s nothing wrong with being pregnant. You could have the baby while you’re still in school, then you can focus on your career later without any worries."
She was being completely honest. They had their marriage certificate; having a baby openly and legally was perfectly fine.
Holly Winslow: "..."
When she didn’t get a response, Anna Willow prattled on, "Holly? Fairy Holly? Are you there? I’ll treat you to dry pot shrimp."
"Where?"
Holly Winslow had just been worrying about what to eat for lunch, something she always struggled with whenever Mortimer Quincy wasn’t home.
Just as she was thinking about that guy, Mortimer Quincy himself called. She told Anna Willow she would call her back in a minute, then answered his call. "Is it lunchtime already?"
"Yeah, I ordered you takeout. It should be arriving downstairs any second. I told the delivery person to leave it at the security office. You can go down and pick it up. It’s under my name." Mortimer Quincy was in his company’s cafeteria, eating noodles.
Hearing him mention his name reminded Holly Winslow of a time in her past life when he was away on a business trip for half a month. Everything she ordered was delivered under his name.
After a while, the security guard figured out that her Lawyer Quincy wasn’t home and one day asked her, "Lawyer Quincy’s been on a business trip for a while this time, huh?"
When Mortimer Quincy returned, she told him, "Honey, it didn’t work."
The next time he went on a business trip, he changed the name to Victor Quincy.
She had laughed so hard she’d bent over double. The security guard had even asked her curiously, "Teacher Winslow, is Lawyer Quincy’s real name Victor Quincy? It doesn’t sound very nice."
Thinking of it now, she couldn’t help but let out a laugh. Then she said, "Anna just invited me to eat. I’ll pick up the takeout and put it in the fridge. We can eat it together tonight."
"Okay." Mortimer Quincy slurped up some noodles. "Go have fun. Don’t be cooped up with your books all day. If you keep reading like that, my wife will turn into a fool."
Before she could reply, he added, "And wife, try not to chew on the blanket like it’s an apple."
Holly Winslow: "..."
That was a one-time mistake! "Go on, go on, Quincy the Puppy, eat your food."
She hung up and went downstairs to get the delivery. "Sir, I’m here to pick up a takeout order for Mortimer Quincy."
The security guard looked at the few takeout bags on the table, checked them again, and shook his head. "There’s nothing here for a Mortimer Quincy."
Holly Winslow asked, "Is there one for Victor Quincy?"
"Yes."
The security guard handed her the takeout bag and added, "By the way, there’s a package for Mortimer Quincy here. It’s been sitting here for days. I tried calling the number, but no one answered. I was about to have it sent back today."
"What package?" Holly Winslow hadn’t heard Mortimer Quincy mention any delivery. When the guard handed it to her, she took a look. Sender: Felicia Lynch.
Her: "..."
Her one and only significant love rival. ’Well, not really a rival, since that guy Mortimer doesn’t give a damn about her.’
The reason she was considered "significant" was because Felicia Lynch was the granddaughter of a close friend of the Quincy Family. Holly had heard that Carl Quincy once wanted to arrange a childhood engagement between the two of them, but it never happened.
Mortimer Quincy had scuttled it.
As her second-oldest cousin told the story: ’When your husband was seven or eight, even dogs didn’t dare mess with him. Felicia Lynch was terrified and refused to play with him, saying he was going to eat people.’
’When your husband heard that, he replied icily, "That’s right. I eat people."’
’That scared Felicia Lynch so badly she wet her pants. She cried her eyes out and refused to stay at our house.’
’Afterward, your dad asked him why he scared her, and he just said, "I was born this way."’
As for why Felicia Lynch ended up liking Mortimer Quincy, that was a story from middle school. Holly didn’t know many of the details. Anyway, whenever she asked Mortimer about it, the guy would get impatient, acting as if she’d brought up some other man.
But it had to be said, this Felicia Lynch was truly beautiful. She had the face, she had the figure; it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call her a dream girl.
Zeke Zane’s middle school crush had been none other than her. Holly had later revealed this to Anna Willow, which resulted in Zeke’s allowance being docked for several months.
It got to the point where he had to borrow money from Mortimer Quincy just to eat instant noodles.
"Sir, please have the courier return this package. We ordered the wrong thing."
The security guard replied, "Alright."
