Reborn with My Genius Husband
Chapter 294 - 304: My Husband’s Desire Is As Strong As Ever
Mortimer Quincy deftly caught the pillow, pretending not to hear his wife’s words. He quickly got into bed, wrapped his arms around her, and said sweetly, "I’m not going. The study will disrupt the harmony of our married life."
Holly Winslow: "..."
’Like hell it does.’
’In my last life, we slept in separate rooms for three days because of his secret stash of money. The aftermath was me having to take a "sick" day for a whole morning.’
At this thought, she pinched his chest. "It’s already been affected. I have absolutely no desire for you anymore."
Mortimer let his wife, who was saying the opposite of what she meant, pinch him. He then pulled the covers over them both. "It’s okay. Your husband’s desire is as strong as it ever was."
"I only get better with every battle."
Holly: "..."
She rolled over to face away from him, showing she had no interest in his cheeky remarks.
...
Wyatt Winslow stayed for two days, and Holly took two days off to be with him. They didn’t go anywhere special, just stayed home playing chess or watching TV.
Mortimer, who usually let loose at home, was on his best behavior for two days. He would come home from work and dutifully do the chores—though he was the one who usually did them anyway, he would always "tease" Holly a bit.
On the day he was leaving, Mortimer specifically took time off work to take Wyatt to the airport.
「At the airport」
Holly glanced at the prim and proper Mortimer standing beside her. ’He’s probably soaring with joy on the inside,’ she thought. She turned to Wyatt, a little reluctant to see him go. "Dad, give me a call when you land."
Wyatt grunted in acknowledgment and looked at her for a few seconds. He wanted to tell her to take care of herself, but didn’t. "You two can head back now."
He paused, then looked at Mortimer with the air of a stern father. "If Holly does anything wrong, you tell me."
Faced with such a "fatal" question, Mortimer said earnestly, "Dad, Holly is always right."
Wyatt: "..."
He pressed his lips together. "Mm."
Hearing their exchange, Holly laughed out loud from the side. "Dad, don’t worry about me. Quincy the Puppy wouldn’t dare bully me. I’m always the one bullying him."
"Holly, don’t be willful." Though those were his words, Wyatt’s tone wasn’t stern at all. On the contrary, he seemed rather relieved.
Only after watching Wyatt leave did Mortimer and Holly drive home.
At seven in the evening, Holly had two periods of evening self-study. After dinner, the two of them drove back to the university.
A New Year’s party was being held on the university’s athletic field. A large crowd had gathered to watch the performances, creating a lively atmosphere.
With half an hour left before class, Holly pulled Mortimer over to the side to watch.
’The freshmen guys this year are pretty good-looking. At least those three on stage are really handsome, and they’re good dancers too.’
’They’re probably going to become a hot commodity at Branton University.’
’Ahem, while Branton University is a gathering place for top students, there really aren’t that many who are also easy on the eyes.’
’It’s all about substance here.’
Holly’s eyes were practically glued to the stage, much to Mortimer’s dissatisfaction. He shot a dark look at her out of the corner of his eye.
The projector on stage cast a kaleidoscope of colors, and a patch of green light landed on the side of his face.
"..."
’Damn it.’
’Fucking green light.’
Holly felt the atmosphere beside her had become a little too quiet. She instinctively turned her head and was met by his death glare, bathed in the green light. "..."
She rubbed her nose sheepishly and feigned a casual tone. "Ahem, they’re decent dancers."
"Decent? Your eyes were glued to them. I’d say they’re more than ’decent.’" Mortimer raised a hand to block the patch of light, which had now turned blue.
Holly raised a hand and gave a sincere smile. "Purely platonic appreciation."
But that rascal Mortimer wouldn’t let it go. He said resentfully, "Platonic appreciation? Doesn’t look like it to me."
Holly: "..."
Suddenly, she pointed at the stage, where a female performer had taken over. "Honey, look, long legs."
Mortimer’s already sour expression darkened by several shades. "..."
’Goddammit, I want to pin my wife down on the bed and teach her a lesson.’
’What kind of wife tells her own husband to check out another woman’s long legs?’
’So generous of her.’
Before he could say anything, Holly added with a grin, "Honey, now we’re even. I won’t hold it against you."
She had made a preemptive strike.
Mortimer: "..."
That rascal Mortimer was not happy. You could see his handsome, sulking face from several meters away.
Serena Shaw noticed it at first glance. After Holly sat down, she leaned in and whispered, "What’s up with your Scholar Quincy? He doesn’t seem to be in a good mood."
Holly glanced at the still-pouting Mortimer and whispered back to Serena, "He was misbehaving, so I spanked him."
Serena and the other two: "..."
’Do they think we’re three-year-olds?’
Simone Quincy was job hunting recently, so she took the opportunity to ask the comparatively more experienced Holly, "How’s work been lately? The three of us still haven’t found jobs. It’s so hard."
"It’s been okay."
Holly opened her book and added, "The Vantage Point Building should have a lot of openings. You guys could look it up."
"We applied. I’m going this Sunday. I have interviews for two jobs."
"The interviews are ridiculous. The job posting said they accept recent graduates and don’t require experience, but when I got to the interview, they asked if I had any relevant work experience."
Serena was still fuming as she said this. "Where am I, a recent graduate, supposed to get relevant work experience from?"
"I asked him if washing dishes counts, and he told me to leave right then and there."
Holly couldn’t help but burst out laughing. "Serena, you’ve got some nerve."
Interviews like that were indeed common. She had encountered plenty in her past life and had thought the same way as Serena back then.
’Now I understand that it was really just because I wasn’t outstanding enough myself.’
Serena laughed. "Well, it’s true."
After saying that, she sighed, knowing in her heart that she wasn’t outstanding enough either. She continued, "It feels so hard to find a job. If you don’t have certifications, they want certifications. If you have them, they want experience. The weirdest thing is they even asked if I was married, and said they wouldn’t consider me if I wasn’t."
"Where am I supposed to find a husband for them?"
Autumn Underwood chimed in, "What about your Nathan Chaney?"
"He’s been busy lately. I haven’t seen him in over half a month. He didn’t even come to class today."
Serena pouted, then quickly looked at Holly with an expression of sudden enlightenment. "I really admire Holly now. To have such foresight, getting married before starting work."
Holly: "..."
’Foresight?’
’She’s giving me way too much credit.’
’I just wanted to get married, plain and simple.’ 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Simone Quincy laughed, then said seriously, "Even if Holly wasn’t married, she’d still have an advantage over us. She started tutoring back in our freshman year and got all the necessary certifications. Finding a job is much easier for her."
"Sigh, I regret not starting sooner."
Autumn nodded in agreement. "This just goes to show there’s some truth to the saying ’play now, pay later.’"
"It’s not too late to realize that now. Hurry up and uninstall your games, and just buckle down for a while," Holly said.
Just then, the professor walked in, and the group straightened up to listen to the lecture.
Holly snuck a few glances at a certain someone beside her, then reached out to take his hand before turning her attention seriously to the lecture.
Mortimer raised an eyebrow. Given an inch, he took a mile, lacing their fingers together tightly. He leaned in and whispered in a low, domineering voice, "Wifey, you can only look at me."
He paused. "Otherwise, I’ll get angry."
Holly humored him with a soft "Mm," but a second later, the rascal spoke again. "Wifey, look at me."
Holly: "..."
She kicked him under the table. "Is there knowledge written on your face?"
After getting kicked, Mortimer finally behaved.
