Chapter 198: Chapter 198

When Roman Rhodes woke up again, it was already past five in the morning the next day.

After being unconscious for several hours, Roman groggily opened his eyes, the scent of antiseptic filling his nostrils.

His vision was filled with a palette of blue and white. He immediately realized he was lying in a hospital bed.

The moments before he passed out flashed through his mind like a slideshow. Roman tentatively touched the wound on his thigh. A dull ache shot through him, and he let out a pained grunt.

Hearing the stirring from Roman’s bed, Holden Rhodes and Ronan Rhodes, who had been keeping watch, were startled. They rushed over, both looking at Roman with anxious expressions.

They had dropped all their work and hurried over as soon as they heard Roman had been shot.

But Roman remained unconscious, so the two of them had stayed in the hospital room all night, not daring to sleep.

Holden, a man in his forties or fifties, was so distraught seeing his older brother injured that he started crying right in front of his son, Ronan.

Now that Roman was awake, he threw himself forward, sobbing pitifully. "Brother, you’re finally awake! You scared me to death!"

Ronan, by contrast, was much calmer. He first pressed the call button for a doctor, then asked Roman with concern, "Uncle, are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere? You were unconscious for six or seven hours. Grandpa was so worried he fainted."

Hearing this, Holden quickly nodded. He pulled out his phone and said, "Right, right. Dad almost had a heart attack. After he came to, he insisted on coming to see you. We had a hard time talking him out of it. I need to call him and let him know you’re okay."

Mr. Rhodes had always worried most about his eldest son. When he learned of Roman’s accident, he nearly had a heart attack. After regaining consciousness, he clutched his chest, insisting on going to the hospital to see Roman, but was stopped by the rest of the Rhodes Family.

The Rhodes Family was afraid that if anything happened to Roman, the old man wouldn’t be able to take it, so they didn’t dare let him come.

After speaking, Holden took his phone and hurried into the hallway to tell Mr. Rhodes that Roman was awake and put his mind at ease.

Just then, the doctor arrived. He examined Roman’s wound, frowned in confusion, and let out a soft "Huh?"

Seeing this, Ronan’s heart sank. He quickly stepped forward and asked, "What is it, Doctor? Is there a problem with my uncle’s wound?"

Seeing Ronan’s nervous expression, the doctor quickly shook his head and replied, "No, no. The wound is healing very quickly, and the bullet didn’t remain in his body..."

Ronan breathed a sigh of relief at his words.

But the confusion in the doctor’s eyes didn’t fade. ’This wound is healing way too fast!’ he thought.

You see, when a bullet enters the human body, the area of destruction isn’t limited to the size of the projectile. It acts like a small meat grinder, shredding the surrounding tissue, both flesh and bone.

However, Roman’s gunshot wound wasn’t that severe. Not only that, but it was also healing at an astonishing rate.

This abnormal healing ability was something he had never seen in his entire medical career!

The doctor frowned in thought. He recalled that this wasn’t the first time. He had previously treated a young girl who had jumped from a building in the emergency room, and her wounds had also healed very quickly.

As the doctor observed Roman’s wound, he became lost in thought. ’Could the two years of natural disasters have caused humanity to evolve? Could it be enhancing human physiology?’

He felt he had to study this. Perhaps he could even publish a paper on it!

While the doctor was lost in his fantasy of publishing a paper, Ronan asked again, "Doctor, about when will my uncle’s wound be healed? When can he be discharged?"

The doctor snapped back to reality. He thought for a moment and replied, "Given his recovery rate, we’ll observe him for a few more days. If there are no issues, he can go home to rest."

Ronan nodded. After seeing the doctor out, he returned to the bedside and asked Roman caringly, "Uncle, are you hungry now? What would you like to eat? I can have someone bring it over."

Roman thought for a moment, then shook his head and instructed Ronan, "I’m not hungry yet. By the way, I owe my life to the Summers Family for this... Their villa was burned down by the assailants last night. Find some people to help them renovate it."

During the natural disasters, it wasn’t easy to find a renovation crew.

Ronan was taken aback for a second, but he nodded and replied, "Don’t worry, Uncle. Leave it to me!"

In the morning, when Melody Summers and the others woke up, Sophie Thorne’s housekeeper had already prepared a lavish breakfast.

Looking at the variety of breakfast items on the table, Grandma and the others said, a bit embarrassed, "Sophie, thank you so much for taking us in. We’ve caused you so much trouble."

Sophie waved her hand and said with a smile, "It’s no trouble at all. The house is livelier with more people. Please, don’t be strangers."

Last night, Sophie and Melody had stayed up late, gossiping over cups of tea, and ended up just falling asleep in the same bed.

Chatting with a friend by the fire late into the night was a novel experience for Sophie. She actually hoped the Summers Family would stay for a few more days.

As they were enjoying their lively breakfast, the housekeeper ran in to say that Ronan Rhodes had arrived and had asked to see the Summers Family.

Sophie was stunned, not quite understanding the situation.

Melody gave her grandmother and the others a reassuring look before standing up and walking into the living room with Sophie, where they found Ronan waiting.

Ronan had just been to the Summers Villa, but no one had answered after he knocked for a long time.

A bodyguard at Sophie’s house saw Ronan from a distance and ran over to tell him that the Summers Family was at Sophie’s place. That’s why Ronan had come over.

Sophie looked at Ronan in confusion and asked, "What are you doing here? Weren’t you at the hospital with your uncle?"

Ronan gave Sophie a reassuring pat, then turned to Melody and said solemnly, "Miss Summers, I came today to thank you. Thank you and your family for saving my uncle!"

Melody was taken aback for a moment before it dawned on her—Roman Rhodes was Ronan’s uncle!

That meant Roman was one of the people in charge of the reconstruction department for The Metropolis Residences in her past life!

’No wonder Roman brought so many gifts every time he came to visit Miss Lowell...’ Melody thought.

Melody felt so stupid. She hadn’t made the connection before, just assuming the gifts were benefits provided by a government department...

Melody quickly waved her hands. "Not at all, not at all. It was Officer Rhodes who saved us!"

Ronan continued, "You mentioned those assailants burned down your villa. I brought some renovation workers with me today. Take a look and see what needs fixing, and I’ll have them repair the villa for you."

Melody’s face lit up. It was the second year of the natural disasters, and many construction companies had gone out of business. She had been worrying about how to find someone for the repairs.

Ronan showing up with a crew solved the Summers Family’s most pressing problem.

Melody quickly followed Ronan back to her house. An engineering vehicle was already parked at her gate, and several neatly dressed renovation workers were waiting.

Melody greeted the workers and then began to list the damaged areas of the villa:

"The glass on the second-floor terrace is all broken and needs to be replaced. If possible, I’d like you to add a layer of security reinforcement."

"The villa’s electric grid was cut and needs to be rewired."

"The security cameras inside and outside the villa were shot and destroyed by the assailants. They need to be replaced."

Then, the group walked into the villa. Melody said to the workers with a sense of helplessness, "The first floor has the worst damage. I hope you can restore it as much as possible."

Even though a whole night had passed, the smell of smoke still lingered, a testament to how much damage the fire had caused.

After explaining the details of the work to the crew, Melody thanked Ronan and walked back with Sophie.

On the way back, Sophie was still marveling, "So the police officer you said was visiting your house yesterday is Ronan’s uncle. What a coincidence..."

Melody nodded as well. She also hadn’t expected that Roman, as the eldest son of the Rhodes Family, would throw himself into such a dangerous profession. ’He must have been through so many dangerous situations like last night’s...’
