Reborn with Nothing but My Farm and Vengeance in the Apocalypse
Chapter 295: He Actually Dared to Call the Police?
Maisie Lynch rushed to help Ivan Warren up, her face etched with worry. "Ivan, are you okay?" she asked, her voice full of distress.
When Ivan Warren saw Maisie Lynch, there was no trace of guilt on his face. Instead, he snapped irritably, "Who told you to come here? Didn’t I tell you to stay home! What are you doing here, making a mess!"
Ivan Warren shoved Maisie Lynch away forcefully, as if trying to reclaim the masculine dignity he’d just lost to Melody Summers.
Pushed by Ivan, Maisie stumbled, nearly falling to the ground.
She pouted, aggrieved, and said softly to Ivan Warren, "I’m sorry, Ivan. I was just worried about you. You were gone for so long, I thought something had happened..."
Then, Maisie turned her attention to Melody Summers. "Melody Summers, how could you just hit someone for no reason? You have to apologize to him, or I’ll call the police! I’ll tell them you assaulted him and started trouble!"
Melody Summers didn’t say a word, just stared at Maisie Lynch with an unreadable, half-amused expression.
Maisie Lynch grew uneasy under Melody’s gaze and subconsciously turned her head away, trying to avoid her eyes.
Seeing this, Melody chuckled softly. "Maisie, stop pretending... You’ve been standing in the hallway for a while now, haven’t you? You heard everything Ivan Warren said to me, didn’t you?"
Melody recalled seeing a shadow in the stairwell just before she hit the record button.
Maisie must have been standing there since then. She had heard Ivan Warren’s entire proposal to make Melody his mistress.
At Melody’s words, a flash of panic crossed Maisie’s eyes.
Melody sighed and continued, "Maisie, is this really the man you chose to give up your education, your future, and your life for? Maisie... do you regret it now?"
For some reason, Melody suddenly felt a wave of sorrow.
Maisie was taken aback by the question. She looked at Melody, a little lost, momentarily unsure how to respond.
Seeing this, Ivan Warren shot Melody a venomous glare and said defensively, "Melody Summers, don’t even think about driving a wedge between Maisie and me! Let me tell you, I was just playing around with you. Maisie is my wife!"
"We men know the difference between the kind of woman you marry and build a life with, and the kind you just play with! You’re just jealous of Maisie and me, so you’re trying to stir up trouble!"
At his words, the confusion in Maisie’s eyes vanished. She walked over to Ivan Warren and wrapped her arms around him.
Then, she looked at Melody with a resolute expression. "I don’t regret it, Melody Summers. Don’t think you can drive a wedge between me and Ivan. I heard everything just now. He only planned to make you his mistress! But I’ll always be special in his heart. You can’t win against me!"
Looking at Maisie, Melody suddenly felt a surge of powerlessness.
She had no desire to say anything more to Maisie.
What kind of mentality could make a girl like Maisie, born in 21st-century Cathaysia, live like a woman from before the 20th century?
Melody still remembered the first time she met Maisie. Maisie had been like a golden stalk of wheat growing in a field. She had overcome every obstacle, fighting her way from a small village to a prestigious university. She was lively, resilient, full of hope, and thriving.
To think that in just a few short years, Maisie could have turned into... this.
Melody shook her head helplessly. "Whatever you say."
’Just hope you’re not afraid of catching a disease...’
With that, Melody turned to leave, unwilling to waste another second on these two.
Seeing this, Ivan Warren took a few quick steps to block her path.
He glared at Melody furiously, roaring in a low voice, "You little bitch, don’t you think you can just walk away! You beat me up like this and think you can just leave?"
After being entangled for this long, Melody’s limited patience had completely run out.
So she just watched Ivan Warren quietly and said flatly, "Then what do you want?"
At her words, Ivan Warren’s expression slowly twisted into a snarl. In a hoarse voice, he said, "Either you let me sleep with you for a night, or you let me hit you back! Otherwise, you’re not leaving!"
"You’re the one who started it today! Even if we call the cops, I’m the one in the right!"
Ivan Warren was clearly blinded by rage and humiliation. With that, he reached out and lunged at Melody.
But the next second, he stopped dead in his tracks.
Melody was holding a cold pistol, pressed directly against the top of his head.
Her eyes were unnervingly cold, as if she were looking at a dead man. "Do you want to die?" she asked icily. "I can help you with that."
Ivan Warren froze instantly. He stared at Melody, his eyes wide with disbelief and his face a mask of terror.
’How could Melody Summers have a gun?!’
Maisie, standing to the side, was also stunned. She gasped, wanting to scream but afraid the noise would startle Melody and cause the gun to go off accidentally.
So, Maisie could only cover her own mouth with a trembling hand.
In the cold stairwell, Ivan Warren was so scared that cold sweat beaded on his forehead. He swallowed hard and stammered, "I... I was wrong... Please, spare me. I-I’ll get lost right now! I’ll never show my face in front of you again, I swear! Please, please don’t shoot..."
As he spoke, his knees suddenly gave out, and as if he couldn’t bear it any longer, he dropped straight to the ground.
He never would have imagined that the beautiful woman he thought he could easily manipulate was actually a tough cookie.
After all, who carries a gun these days unless they’re serious business?
Ivan Warren was filled with regret. If he had known this would happen, he would have never, ever provoked Melody Summers!
Melody tapped Ivan Warren’s forehead with the gun. Just as he looked like he was about to piss himself, she commanded coldly, "Get lost."
Then, Melody glanced at Maisie. "By the way, if you want to call the police, go ahead. I don’t care. Do whatever you want."
After receiving Melody’s "pardon," Ivan Warren and Maisie Lynch let out a sigh of relief, as if they’d been granted a royal amnesty.
Maisie quickly rushed forward, helped up the terrified Ivan Warren, and they fled the scene in a sorry state.
They didn’t even dare to look back, as if they were being chased by a demon...
Watching them scramble away in terror, Melody thought, ’I hope today’s threat was effective.’
She wasn’t the type to casually resort to violence. After all, having been reborn once, she believed in cause and effect.
Ivan Warren and Maisie Lynch were disgusting, but their crimes didn’t warrant death. It was best to scare them off with a threat.
However, The Summers Family would be living here for the next few months. If Ivan and Maisie were determined to be shameless and came back to cause more trouble, then she’d have no choice but to find a way to dispose of these two problems...
******
The next morning, a groggy Melody was sitting at the dining table, sipping seafood congee.
Her stomach still felt a little full from the huge seafood feast the family had yesterday.
But the congee in her hands was savory and delicious, every spoonful bursting with a rich seafood flavor. Melody couldn’t bear to put her spoon down, so she continued to eat it slowly, one small bite at a time.
But to her surprise, before she could even finish her congee, Officer Tristan Tanner showed up at the door.
When Melody went to open the door, her brain was still foggy with sleep. The instant she saw Officer Tristan Tanner, her very first thought was: ’That animal Ivan Warren... he actually dared to call the cops?’
