Chapter 320: Teach Them a Lesson
Zara Walsh looked down at Melody Summers and said with conviction, "Melody Summers, face reality. You can’t beat me, no matter what! A girl from a common family like you? I could crush you with just a little effort."
"Your best option is to keep your head down from now on. Know your place, and stop going after my brother!"
Melody Summers felt Zara Walsh wasn’t in a state of mind for a proper conversation and had planned on ignoring her.
But after hearing Zara Walsh mention her brother repeatedly, Melody couldn’t help but ask, "When exactly did I ever go after your brother?"
Truth be told, Melody had almost forgotten who Zara Walsh’s brother even was.
Zara Walsh clearly thought Melody was playing innocent. She sneered and said disdainfully, "Don’t play the innocent little flower with me, you scheming bitch. I’m not falling for it! Now, both of you are going to do as I say!"
As she spoke, Zara Walsh pointed at Lucy White, who had been standing silently to the side. "You two," she said with an arrogant expression, "get on your knees and apologize. Leave your phones, and then you can go. Otherwise... don’t blame me for what I do to you!"
Seeing Zara Walsh’s high-and-mighty expression, Melody lost all interest in engaging with her any further.
Melody had already achieved her goal for attending the banquet—she’d figured out why the coal shipment for The Metropolis Residences was so late.
’It wasn’t a supply shortage or logistical problems. It was just one person’s ridiculously petty act of revenge.’
Melody turned, took Lucy White by the arm, and prepared to leave.
Seeing this, Supervisor Walsh strode forward to block their path. "You little bitches, who said you could leave?!" he snarled. "Leave your phones behind!"
With that, he lunged straight at Melody, trying to snatch the phone from her hand.
Melody deftly sidestepped him. Supervisor Walsh lunged at empty air, nearly crashing into Zara Walsh behind him.
He staggered a few steps. Just as he regained his balance, Melody suddenly stepped forward and kicked him hard in the knee.
The kick sent Supervisor Walsh off balance, and he tumbled right onto Zara Walsh.
"Ah!" Zara Walsh cried out. She was wearing twelve-centimeter stilettos, and with Supervisor Walsh crashing into her, she completely lost her balance. She toppled straight backward, and the two of them ended up in a heap on the floor.
Melody glanced at the pair, then pulled Lucy White along as she walked around them to leave.
Ivan Warren had been frozen in place, terrified. The situation had escalated far beyond what he’d anticipated.
As the one who had started all this, he was now in a full-blown panic. He could only watch in silence as Melody and Lucy White walked right past him.
Supervisor Walsh finally struggled back to his feet and rushed to help Zara Walsh up from the floor.
Seeing Ivan Warren still standing there dumbfounded, Supervisor Walsh immediately yelled at him, "Warren, what are you standing there gawking for? Go get them!"
"...Uh, oh, right! I’m on it!" Hearing this, Ivan Warren scrambled over to block Melody and Lucy White’s path.
Melody frowned at Ivan Warren and said impatiently, "What do you want now? Do you have a death wish?"
Ivan Warren looked at Melody, instinctively shrinking back in fear, but he gritted his teeth and forced himself to say, "You... you two, don’t leave yet! First... delete everything on your phones!"
Melody looked at him and gave a cold laugh, but said nothing.
Ivan Warren’s eyes darted around as he continued, "It’s useless for you to keep that evidence. You heard them, Supervisor Walsh is a relative of Miss Walsh! And Miss Walsh’s paternal aunt is the future matriarch of the Rhodes Family! Reporting us won’t do you any good!"
"Melody Summers, you two snuck into this banquet to land a rich guy, right? You’re looking for a meal ticket, aren’t you? How about this: you delete the video, and I’ll introduce you to some executives at Rhodes. They’re all big spenders!"
After finishing, Ivan Warren looked at Melody and Lucy White with an expectant gaze. He was certain the offer was too tempting for them to possibly refuse.
’If I were a woman, I wouldn’t be able to refuse either!’
Melody’s response was a hard punch to his face.
"AGH—!" Ivan Warren took the punch square in the face, and the taste of blood immediately filled his mouth.
He clutched his face and shouted at Melody indignantly, "That’s enough! Melody Summers, don’t think I won’t hit a woman!"
With that, he lunged at Melody, planning to snatch the phone right out of her hand.
But Ivan Warren had only taken two steps before Lucy White, who had been silent until now, suddenly darted forward. She held a lipstick-sized can of pepper spray and shot it directly into his face!
"AHH!! AGHH—!"
Ivan Warren felt a fiery pain sear his eyes and throat. He howled as he collapsed, tears and snot streaming uncontrollably down his face.
Ivan Warren’s screams were loud enough that even people in the main hall could faintly hear them. Several guests began to murmur curiously, trying to see what was going on.
Just then, a security guard in a black suit noticed the commotion. While reassuring the guests in the hall, he ran over to investigate.
He first glanced at Ivan Warren, who was howling and writhing on the ground, then turned to Melody and Lucy White with a frown. "What’s going on here?" he asked.
Hearing someone arrive, Ivan Warren immediately began to wail, "Help me! Please, help me! I’m going blind! They did this!"
Melody rolled her eyes at Ivan Warren and said to the guard, "This man was harassing someone. Could you please handle this?"
Hearing Melody’s words, a strange look flickered in the security guard’s eyes.
He narrowed his eyes, sizing up Melody and Lucy White, then rubbed his chin and said, "I can’t just take your word for it. That’s hearsay. Do you have any proof?"
Melody nodded. "Yes, I have evidence. I recorded a video."
Hearing this, the guard immediately held out his hand. "Let me see it."
Trusting him, Melody took out her phone, found the video she had just taken, pressed play, and held it up for the guard to see.
The guard frowned slightly as he watched the screen, which clearly showed Ivan Warren trying to grab and hug Lucy White despite her protests.
Melody had only meant to show that part, but the guard watched the rest of the video, including the confrontation after Supervisor Walsh arrived.
Just as the video finished and Melody was about to speak, the guard suddenly reached out and snatched the phone from her hand!
Melody’s pupils constricted. "What are you doing?" she blurted out. "Give my phone back!"
The guard dodged Melody’s attempt to grab the phone. Using his height advantage, he held the phone up high and, with a few quick taps, deleted the video.
Only after deleting the video did the guard hand the phone back to Melody.
Melody glanced at her photo gallery, then raised her head and stared coldly at the guard. "What was that for?!"
The guard’s eyes shifted evasively. He avoided Melody’s gaze and replied, "I didn’t see him harass you. It was probably just a misunderstanding. This is a Rhodes event, so you should all just apologize to each other and not blow things out of proportion."
Melody almost laughed at his shamelessness.
Just then, Supervisor Walsh slowly approached, supporting Zara Walsh.
Zara Walsh had twisted her ankle when she fell. Still in her high heels, she was limping badly. She couldn’t have walked at all without Supervisor Walsh supporting her.
The hem of her gown had been torn in the scuffle, the hairstyle that had taken two hours to perfect was now a total mess, and even one of her three-centimeter-long manicured nails had snapped off.
Zara Walsh glared at Melody, her eyes blazing with fury. As the esteemed Miss Walsh of the Walsh Family, she had never been so utterly humiliated in her entire life.
’It’s all Melody’s fault!’
Zara Walsh raised a trembling hand, pointed her finger with the broken nail at Melody and Lucy White, and ground out to the guard, "Seize those two bitches! And teach them a lesson they won’t forget!"
