Chapter 394: He’s Dead
Maisie Lynch lifted her heavy eyelids and glanced weakly at Leopold Lowell, not saying a word.
She was exhausted and hopeless. Her legs and feet were so frozen they were numb, and she felt it would be better to just die.
Seeing Maisie Lynch’s uncooperative look, the anger in Leopold Lowell’s heart flared. He prepared to go forward and beat her again.
But just then, he thought he heard the sound of the front door opening.
Leopold Lowell assumed his older brother and third brother had returned. He resentfully withdrew the foot he was about to kick Maisie Lynch with and said coldly, "You little bitch, just you wait. I’ll come back to deal with you later!"
With that, he turned, opened the door of the secondary bedroom, and snorted coldly as he walked out, "...My big brother and the others are back. They’re not as gentle as me. You’re in for it now..."
Hearing his words, Maisie Lynch’s heart leaped into her throat.
The memory of being beaten by three burly men surged back into her mind. In an instant, Maisie Lynch’s whole body was trembling like a leaf.
It was as if she could see those three ferocious, twisted faces again. Their fists and feet fell on her like rain as she could only curl up on the floor, powerless to resist.
Just as Maisie Lynch was sinking into despair, she suddenly heard a dull THUD.
She looked up toward the sound, only to be shocked to see Leopold Lowell, who had just opened the door, fall straight to the ground.
Maisie Lynch was stunned. Her gaze slowly traveled upward, and she saw an unexpected figure standing in the doorway—
Maisie Lynch’s eyes widened, and she blurted out, "It’s you?"
Melody Summers looked at Maisie Lynch expressionlessly. She hadn’t expected these kidnappers to have snatched Maisie as well.
’It seems these kidnappers robbed 1602 first, then did the same to 1601.’
’Last night, Grace Sutton said she heard a "woman’s cry." That must have been Maisie.’
Thinking of this, Melody Summers broke out in a cold sweat. ’Good thing I dealt with these kidnappers tonight. Otherwise... after they were done with 1602 and 1601, they probably would have come for my apartment next...’
As Melody Summers mulled this over, she quietly put away the "Enchanting Secret Medicine" in her hand, feeling a slight pang of regret.
’This medicine cost me a lot of money, and it’s a real shame to have wasted so much on the three Lowell brothers.’
’If firing a gun wasn’t so loud, and if I had a good explanation for making people vanish into my space, I really wouldn’t have wanted to waste this powder...’
Seeing Melody Summers walk past the paralyzed Leopold Lowell on the floor, Maisie Lynch struggled to sit up and exclaimed, "You, what are you doing here?!... Don’t tell me you were captured by them too?!"
Melody Summers didn’t answer Maisie Lynch’s question. She put a finger to her lips in a "shush" gesture, signaling for Maisie not to shout, then asked in a low voice, "When were you captured? How many kidnappers are there in total? Is there anyone else in this apartment?"
Hearing this, Maisie Lynch pressed her lips together and answered in a hushed voice, "I was captured last night... I think there are three of them... Anyway, I’ve only seen three in the past two days..."
Hearing Maisie Lynch’s words, Melody Summers let out a temporary sigh of relief.
’Three in total. She and Joyce Lawson killed two, and now with the one she just knocked out, 1603 should be safe for now.’
Maisie Lynch saw that Melody Summers wasn’t speaking and asked nervously, "...So why are you really here? What about the other kidnappers? Where did they go?"
Melody Summers glanced at Maisie Lynch, paused for a moment, and replied, "Don’t worry. They’re all dead."
Hearing this, Maisie Lynch’s eyes flew wide open in utter astonishment. "What?!" she exclaimed.
’Those two kidnappers are both dead?’
’Who killed them?’
Suddenly, a thought flashed through Maisie Lynch’s mind—’Could Melody Summers have killed them?’
She suddenly remembered something—’Melody Summers has a gun!’
At this thought, Maisie Lynch couldn’t help but shudder as a chill ran up her spine. She watched Melody Summers nervously, her body instinctively curling up slightly.
In that moment, Maisie Lynch suddenly felt a deep sense of regret for ever having provoked Melody Summers before...
Melody Summers was unaware of Maisie Lynch’s inner terror. Seeing Maisie Lynch’s black-and-blue and swollen face, she frowned slightly.
Under Maisie Lynch’s somewhat terrified gaze, Melody Summers walked over to her, took a knife from her pocket, and cut the ropes binding her.
Then she looked up and said to Maisie Lynch, "There... you can go home on your own."
After speaking, Melody Summers stood up, planning to check the other rooms. She thought Joyce’s mother and brother must be locked in the room next door.
Seeing Melody Summers about to leave, Maisie Lynch seemed to suddenly snap out of her daze.
She sat up straight, grabbed Melody Summers’s leg, and blurted out, "Don’t! Don’t go!"
Melody Summers turned to look at Maisie Lynch, puzzled, and asked with a frown, "What’s wrong?"
’She’d already cut Maisie Lynch’s ropes, so why wasn’t she leaving? Could her leg be broken?’
Under Melody Summers’s questioning gaze, Maisie Lynch bit her lower lip tightly. Her eyes were slightly red, her expression filled with terror and unease.
She looked up at Melody Summers and said in a tearful voice, "I... I’m scared... Can you please not go yet?"
Maisie Lynch had just escaped the brink of death, and her mind was slowly beginning to function again. Now, thinking back on the beatings and humiliation she suffered at the hands of the three Lowell brothers, she was filled with lingering fear.
If Melody Summers hadn’t saved her, only two fates would have awaited her—she would have either been beaten to death by the three brothers, or they would have taken turns violating her, then killed her when they got bored!
Melody Summers: "..."
Melody Summers sighed quietly, looked down at Maisie Lynch, and said, "What are you afraid of? The other two kidnappers are dead, and I’ll take care of the one in this room. You don’t have to worry. Just go straight home."
Looking at Maisie Lynch’s pale face, Melody Summers thought for a moment, then added, "When you get back, remember to lock your door well. Don’t just open it for anyone. You don’t need to go out for a while anyway. At night, you can use a cabinet to barricade the door. That’ll make it harder for robbers to break in."
Maisie Lynch just stared blankly at Melody Summers. After listening to her instructions, she nodded lightly and grunted, "Mm."
Even so, Maisie Lynch kept her tight grip on Melody Summers’s leg, refusing to let go no matter what.
Seeing this, Melody Summers said with a hint of exasperation, "Come on, let go of me! Didn’t I just tell you? You can just go straight home now."
After speaking, Melody Summers glanced again at Maisie Lynch’s face, which was covered in black and blue bruises, and thought: ’Maisie’s clearly been beaten severely. Could Titus Lowell and his brothers have actually broken her leg?’
Thinking of this, Melody Summers asked tentatively, "Can you not walk right now? Should I go to 1602 and get Ivan Warren? Have him carry you back?"
Unexpectedly, upon hearing the name "Ivan Warren," Maisie Lynch trembled from head to toe!
As if she had lost her soul, her eyes became hollow and vacant. She mumbled, "...He... he’s dead..."
Melody Summers froze. "What did you say?" she asked instinctively. "Who’s dead?"
Maisie Lynch looked at Melody Summers blankly and said softly, "Ivan Warren... He’s dead..."
