Record of a Demon's Cultivation
Chapter 1275: Heavenly Net Wind-Binding Formation
Translator: CinderTL
"Fellow Daoist Gou Jun, you certainly didn’t say that in front of Fellow Daoist Hong Yi," Xue Cong remarked with a smile. "Back then, you insisted there was no specific objective for this expedition."
"Those were just casual remarks, fellow daoist. Why take them so seriously?" Song Wen replied.
At this moment, the female cultivator from the Profound Sky Sect interjected, "If you’ve ’gained little,’ then you must have gained something. How much Pure Origin Heavenly Dew did you obtain?"
Song Wen’s gaze shifted to the female cultivator. Instead of answering, he asked, "May I inquire as to your esteemed name?"
"Leng Zhi of the Profound Sky Sect," she replied.
"Fellow Daoist Leng Zhi, it’s an honor to meet you," Song Wen said politely before turning to the male cultivator from Myriad Swords Pavilion. "And what should I call you, fellow daoist?"
"Heng Ziping," the man replied, then countered, "Fellow Daoist Gou Jun, you still haven’t answered Fellow Daoist Leng Zhi’s question."
"To my shame, I’ve only managed to obtain a single drop of Pure Origin Heavenly Dew so far. What about the three of you?" Song Wen asked.
"Just one drop?" Heng Ziping scrutinized Song Wen, his eyes filled with suspicion.
Leng Zhi glanced at Song Wen but offered no further response, as if she disdained such a meager amount of Pure Origin Heavenly Dew or considered it a waste of breath to engage with him.
Only Xue Cong spoke up, "Fellow Daoist Gou Jun, obtaining even a single drop of Pure Origin Heavenly Dew is an extraordinary stroke of luck. I haven’t managed to get even one."
"Oh, really?" Song Wen replied, his expression calm.
He had deliberately mentioned his own Pure Origin Heavenly Dew to gauge whether the others possessed any, and if so, how much.
From their reactions, it seemed Heng Ziping and Leng Zhi likely had some, though the exact quantities remained unclear.
Xue Cong, however, was more difficult to assess.
Song Wen swiftly changed the subject, asking, "The three of you have been guarding this place. Could there be some hidden mechanism here?"
Heng Ziping answered, "Fellow Daoist, why ask what you already know? The four of us came here solely to enter the Gale Qi Abyss and seek Pure Origin Heavenly Dew. But the abyss’s gales are ferocious, and the situation is unclear. Who would dare rush in blindly? We’ve been forced to remain here, pondering how to enter the abyss safely."
"Perhaps we could find an area where the gales are relatively weaker and enter the abyss there?" Song Wen suggested.
"Stop daydreaming," Leng Zhi retorted. "The gales in the entire abyss are uniform; there’s no such thing as a ’weaker’ spot. I arrived here three days before you and have already thoroughly surveyed the abyss multiple times."
"In that case," Song Wen asked, "Fellow Daoist Leng Zhi, would you mind sharing what you’ve learned about the Gale Qi Abyss?"
Leng Zhi explained, "The entire Abyss forms a circular ring, spanning approximately four hundred thousand li. Every half-hour or so, the gale shifts direction, alternating between inhaling and exhaling. I once risked entering when the gang qi was erupting outward. While my strength allowed me to protect myself within the gale, I couldn’t withstand its immense force and was eventually hurled high into the sky. If we enter while the gale is surging into the Abyss, we’ll inevitably be swept down to its depths. At that point, the slightest misstep could shatter our bones."
"But... after finally entering the Turbid Spirit Realm and enduring countless hardships to reach this place, are we really going to leave empty-handed?" Xue Cong asked, his voice tinged with reluctance.
"With a treasure mountain before us, how could we possibly leave empty-handed?" Heng Ziping retorted. "If we miss this opportunity, we may never again have a chance to obtain the Pure Origin Heavenly Dew. I propose that the four of us join forces to explore the Abyss together."
"But if we succeed in finding the Pure Origin Heavenly Dew, how will we divide it among us?" Xue Cong pressed.
"Naturally, each will claim what they earn through their own abilities," Heng Ziping replied matter-of-factly.
Xue Cong frowned slightly but remained silent, his gaze shifting to Song Wen.
Song Wen, Leng Zhi, and Heng Ziping had all revealed cultivation realms at the peak of Void Refinement, while Xue Cong alone was at the late-stage of Void Refinement—the lowest among them.
Furthermore, Leng Zhi and Heng Ziping were both direct disciples of major sects, their techniques and treasures undoubtedly far superior to those of Xue Cong, a cultivator from a mid-sized clan. If they truly found the Pure Origin Heavenly Dew, he would stand little chance against them, and they might even discard him like a used tool.
The best course of action was to form an alliance with Gou Jun.
With such an alliance, even if he couldn’t compete with Leng Zhi and Heng Ziping, his survival would be assured.
And since Gou Jun was merely a rogue cultivator, he would likely agree to Xue Cong’s proposal.
As Xue Cong cautiously weighed his options, Song Wen spoke up.
"Fellow Daoist Heng’s words carry weight. However, wouldn’t rushing into the Abyss so rashly be too risky?"
Leng Zhi replied, "I possess the Heavenly Net Wind-Binding Formation. This formation can withstand the gale and requires exactly four cultivators to activate. Moreover, we can enter the Abyss when the gale surges outward. Should danger arise, we can use the wind’s momentum to escape. What do you three think?"
"Forgive my ignorance, but I’ve never heard of the Heavenly Net Wind-Binding Formation before," Heng Ziping said. "Fellow Daoist Leng Zhi, would you mind demonstrating the formation so we can broaden our horizons?"
"Of course."
Leng Zhi flipped her hand, producing four array disks—three small and one large. She distributed the three smaller disks to Song Wen, Xue Cong, and Heng Ziping.
Song Wen accepted one of the array disks and probed it with his divine sense. He immediately discovered that the disk functioned similarly to a jade slip, containing detailed records of the Heavenly Net Wind-Binding Formation’s effects and operational methods.
According to the disk’s records, the formation’s primary purpose was to resist gales and mitigate their impact.
"If you had this formation, fellow daoist, why didn’t you bring it out sooner, or simply venture alone?" Heng Ziping asked, his suspicion of Leng Zhi evident.
As he spoke, he glanced at the four Divine Transformation Stage cultivators standing nearby. All four were members of the Profound Sky Sect, capable of coordinating with Leng Zhi to operate the formation.
Leng Zhi replied, "Though my four sect members are here, their cultivation levels are somewhat lacking. If they were to operate the three auxiliary array disks, they could likely only unleash twenty to thirty percent of the formation’s true power. The Gale Qi Abyss is exceedingly dangerous; I wouldn’t dare attempt it lightly."
Heng Ziping nodded, saying nothing more. It remained unclear whether he accepted Leng Zhi’s explanation or simply deemed further argument pointless.
Leng Zhi continued, "The operational methods for the Heavenly Net Wind-Binding Formation aren’t complex. I believe the three of you fellow daoists can master them within a few hours. How about we set out early tomorrow morning?"
"I have no objections," Song Wen replied.
Heng Ziping and Xue Cong nodded in agreement with Leng Zhi’s proposal.
Song Wen, holding the array disk, walked to a nearby boulder, leaned against it, and began studying the formation.
He could clearly sense that each of the three harbored their own ulterior motives. However, for now, the four of them still needed each other, so he didn’t expect any immediate trouble.
By entering the Abyss together, they could at least use each other to deal with crises, buying time for their own escapes.
