Redemption of a Born Demon
Chapter 278 - 223: Divine Power Fruit Position, An Extraordinary Undercurrent (Part 2)
But these two people in front of him were different. The "God" within their bodies had fused with their Life Magnetic Fields, becoming a single entity.
To a certain extent, that God was even stronger than their own Life Magnetic Fields; it was the fundamental source of their power.
Without that "God," they would at best be on par with a Pioneer Group Super Warrior.
On the surface, this might not have seemed like a big deal, but its nature was fundamentally different.
The normal state of a Hidden God can be seen as a man with his dog or a master with his servant, both contributing when facing an enemy. But the state of these two’s Life Magnetic Fields was as if the man and dog had fused into a single being.
It might be an impolite comparison, but that was the reality of it. The difference in their power boost was that of addition versus multiplication.
Yi Beidou then turned his gaze to the Caucasian woman.
Fused within her body was a figure with skin like jade, radiating a dense natural aura that seemed to closely match the image of an Elf from Western legends.
"Interesting. How about we trade a few moves?"
Yi Beidou said, looking at the two of them.
"I’m sorry, Mr. Yi, but it isn’t a good time for us to fight. If we cause too much of a commotion, we’ll surely be detected by the ’Domain Lord’ of this place. That would lead to a lot of unnecessary trouble and risk tipping off our target."
The tall Asian man stood opposite Yi Beidou and spoke calmly, showing no intention of fighting.
He formed a seal with his hands, and with a flick of his finger, several more Talismans struck the nearby trees. The Array Barrier, which had been burned by Yi Beidou’s Demon Flame, closed up again, concealing the aura and fluctuations in the area.
"Domain Lord?"
Yi Beidou asked, a curious look in his eyes.
"Before we get into that, please allow us to introduce ourselves. My name is Cheng Zhihong, and this is Yuna. We’re from an organization called ’Dark Vine.’ We are dedicated to opposing the Secret Organizations that lurk in the shadows and preventing their actions from threatening the Mortal World."
"We came to Japan this time precisely because of you, Mr. Yi. You seem to be looking for clues related to the Pioneer Group and the Ancient Ones, and you appear to want to confront them. Perhaps there’s a possibility for cooperation between us."
Cheng Zhihong, the tall Asian man, explained.
’Dark Vine?’
’An organization that specializes in fighting Secret Organizations?’
"I’ve never heard of you or your organization. How do you intend to prove who you are?"
Yi Beidou didn’t believe them right away and instead questioned them.
"You should have already noticed the anomaly in our bodies. Perhaps this is the best proof. Our power doesn’t come from ourselves, but from a ’Fruit Position.’ Therefore, our cultivation system completely eliminates the possibility of Corpse Dissolution and reincarnation."
The Caucasian woman, Yuna, spoke up as well, her voice betraying no hint of an accent.
’Fruit Position?’
Yi Beidou had indeed heard of this legendary concept. Connecting it with the condition of their bodies, he began to form a theory.
The Deity within their bodies was the so-called "Fruit Position." It was by fusing with it that they were able to obtain their current Divine Power and martial strength.
"I’m sorry, but I still can’t completely trust your words. It’s possible, after all, that some more powerful being created you."
Yi Beidou shook his head slightly.
"You should be able to sense that our fusion with the Fruit Position within us is not perfect. Once the fusion is perfected, our strength would be no weaker than an Ancient One’s, and we would also possess the characteristics of a Deity. If someone could mass-produce beings like us, he wouldn’t need to use such methods to deceive you."
Cheng Zhihong said with a smile.
Yi Beidou could indeed sense this. The fusion between their Life Magnetic Fields and the Deities within was incomplete. It was like two bodies forcibly smashed together, obstructing the flow of their power. If they could truly achieve perfect control, the strength they could unleash would likely be on par with an Ancient One.
’Anyone capable of mass-producing beings with Life Magnetic Fields of this caliber would have to possess an unimaginable level of power, perhaps even surpassing the Ancient Ones.’
’That was a level of being he likely couldn’t contend with right now. If such a being bore him any ill will, they would have simply attacked him directly.’
"First, tell me about this ’Domain Lord.’ And about what you mentioned before—the legends, myths, and all that."
Yi Beidou remained noncommittal and continued to question them.
’If they could genuinely provide some useful intelligence, he wouldn’t be against a limited partnership.’
"’Domain Lord’ is what we call certain powerful beings among the Ancient Ones. Over their long lives, they have forged profound bonds with a particular land, ethnic group, or nation, becoming akin to ’Deities of a domain.’"
"The one in control of the Japan Pioneer Group Asia Headquarters is one such individual. He is deeply embedded in Japan’s governance and culture—a little-known entity who is the true embodiment of an ’unbroken line through ages eternal.’ That’s why we had to be so cautious entering Japan. A single misstep could lead to him sensing our presence."
Cheng Zhihong explained this to Yi Beidou without reservation, a gesture of their sincerity.
’Domain Lord?’
’Yi Beidou’s mind raced. The Japanese Imperial Family had endured for over 2,600 years without interruption. Even as times changed, even after Japan suffered unprecedented turmoil and defeat, that family remained perched above the Japanese people, its position unshaken.’
"It seems the Japanese Imperial Family is indeed connected to that Ancient One. I should probably pay a visit to their royal residence. There might be clues there."
Yi Beidou mused aloud.
"It’s not as simple as you think. The relationship between them is very complex. Let me ask you, if you were the Japanese Imperial Family, would you want an immortal god hanging over your head, restricting your every move?"
"No. Driven by the innate human thirst for power, you would do everything possible to kill that deity during his moment of greatest weakness. For an Ancient One who needs considerable time to mature after reincarnation, that’s a fatal vulnerability. Therefore, he would never leave any trace of his movements or whereabouts in the hands of the Royal Family."
Yuna said, shaking her head.
Yi Beidou didn’t refute her; he understood the reasoning.
This was also the fundamental reason why so many Ancient Ones needed to hide themselves.
The moment of Corpse Dissolution was their greatest point of vulnerability. It was a flaw beyond their control, one that required ten, or even twenty, years to slowly mend.
"So, what were you referring to when you spoke of myths, legends, and the world?"
Yi Beidou asked again.
Cheng Zhihong and Yuna glanced at each other, seemingly communicating with their eyes about whether they should tell him this information before he agreed to cooperate.
In the end, it seemed Cheng Zhihong made a decision.
"Normally, we would only share this information after you agreed to cooperate with us. However, your strength warrants a concession."
"You should know that the Pioneer Group’s ultimate goal is to create a ’Leakless Body’ that can lock in life and never die of natural causes, right?"
Cheng Zhihong said.
Yi Beidou nodded.
’He had heard about this from Wei Cheng and had also seen related information in the Special Security Bureau’s internal intelligence on the Pioneer Group.’
’The Corpse Dissolving Immortals and Ancient Ones didn’t want to be constrained by the weakness of their post-Corpse Dissolution growth phase. They wanted to cultivate a body that could truly endure, solving all their problems once and for all. Then they would no longer need to hide in the shadows, treading on thin ice, but could stand openly in the light and enjoy the authority and glory their power afforded them.’
"Do you think humans can really live forever? Or at least, not die from natural causes?"
Cheng Zhihong asked again.
Yi Beidou was silent.
’The world is vast and full of wonders. Who could say for sure about such a thing?’
"Every culture in the world has legends of immortal beings. Of course, this is a beautiful fantasy born from humanity’s fear of death. But that doesn’t mean there’s no truth to it, just as countless epics and myths may have real-life prototypes."
Cheng Zhihong said.
"How can you prove it?"
Yi Beidou asked.
"Some has been found. Even if it was just a tiny piece of flesh or a single drop of blood, it maintained perfect viability after countless eons, as if it were biological tissue left behind in the mortal world by a god."
"We call such a thing ’Earth Immortal Remains’ or ’Earth Immortal Cells.’ This may be the proof—evidence that the unknown legends of this world were once real."
"And this is precisely the goal of all the Ancient Ones and Corpse Dissolving Immortals."
Cheng Zhihong’s words struck like a clap of thunder, revealing a secret beyond the imagination of any ordinary person.
