Redemption of a Born Demon
Chapter 287 - 227: Overseas Immortal Mountain: An Immortal’s Abode Made by Heaven and Earth (Part 2)
She held the Green Elf Fruit Position and possessed Natural Affinity, but this affinity was stronger on land and in the forests. The open sea was not her home turf.
Meanwhile, Cheng Zhihong unleashed his Power of Fruit Position. The upper body of a massive Divine General, formed from brilliant light, materialized out of thin air over the ocean, its gaze fixed intently on the surface.
"Mr. Yi, I fear the enemy sensed our approach and made preparations. This concerns the ruins of an ancient legend, and fighting on water puts us at a disadvantage. We should reconsider. We’ve already found the Immortal Mountain’s location; it won’t be too late to return once we’re better prepared!" Cheng Zhihong said gravely.
"This Immortal Mountain can move through the ocean. If we miss our chance now, they’ll be prepared, and locating it again will be incredibly difficult."
"You two can leave first. I’m going to confront them," Yi Beidou said calmly.
"We don’t even know where they are. How are we supposed to find them?"
Cheng Zhihong said, his expression grave. He gazed ahead; the ocean before them was vast and empty, with no trace of an island or an Immortal Mountain. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been deceived by the vision in the sky in the first place.
Clearly, the Immortal Mountain was protected by an incredibly powerful concealment array, one that could even deceive the eyes of someone who had reached Ascension.
"It’s right ahead. There’s no need to get tangled up with these beasts," Yi Beidou said, his gaze fixed on a particular spot.
The Demon Flame burned in his eyes, piercing through the illusion shrouding the vast ocean.
A few kilometers ahead, he saw it: an island, an Immortal Mountain roughly the size of a massive cruise ship. Large swathes of it were jagged rock, wreathed in mist. Auspicious clouds drifted past, and shimmering rainbow light veiled it, making the whole scene look like a dream.
’Fighting in the ocean isn’t my strong suit. While I could find a way to kill these enormous Sea Flood Dragons, there was no point in getting bogged down.’
’The best approach was to board the island directly and find the one pulling the strings.’
TAP TAP TAP!
Even as he spoke, Yi Beidou was already on the move, running across the water toward the Penglai Immortal Mountain.
’To hell with it!’
Cheng Zhihong gritted his teeth and immediately followed Yi Beidou. Yuna took a deep breath and hurried after them as well.
Having come this far, they couldn’t possibly run away and let Yi Beidou face the danger alone.
"Stay a hundred meters away from me."
But just then, Yi Beidou’s voice suddenly rang out.
The expressions on Cheng Zhihong and Yuna’s faces changed. They, too, sensed the monsters on the seabed stirring, seemingly with Yi Beidou as their sole target.
To some degree, they were being controlled by the Alchemist; Yi Beidou was their primary target!
Yet Yi Beidou’s expression remained unchanged.
’All I have to do is avoid them.’
Shadows rapidly expanded in the water beneath his feet. Four distinct shapes shot toward him.
’Now!’
Yi Beidou stomped hard on the surface of the sea, his body shooting sideways for several dozen meters.
However, before he even landed...
An even larger shadow had already emerged beneath him.
It was the strongest of the Sea Flood Dragons.
’Wait a minute. There were only four just now, but I’m sure I sensed five before. How could I have subconsciously ignored or forgotten something so important in that instant? Even my Celestial Demon Sensing, my ability to perceive danger, was blinded, completely ignoring the creature’s existence.’
’And that leap... it felt subconscious. So how did I end up jumping perfectly into the space right above this massive Sea Flood Dragon?’
’If my speed had been a little slower, the distance slightly off, or the timing altered in the slightest, I could have instantly put in a second burst of effort and dodged this attack, even with my perception clouded.’
’A perfect coincidence?’
In that instant, a thousand thoughts flashed through Yi Beidou’s mind. He felt an illusion of destiny, as if everything had been perfectly orchestrated.
’Destiny? Karma?’
Cheng Zhihong and Yuna’s pupils constricted, their mouths falling slightly agape. They watched as Yi Beidou leaped, and before he could land, the surface of the sea suddenly exploded.
BOOM!!
A cavernous maw shot up from beneath the waves, snapping shut on Yi Beidou, who had nowhere to run.
