Reincarnated as a Lizard
Chapter 457: Eternal Life Sanctum
Ignoring the escaping adventurer completely as her attention shifted towards the escaping mist bound behemoth that was doing its best to take advantage of the current situation to run away, Scaly wasted no time before descending upon the already severely weakened mist bound behemoth. Holding nothing back as she made full use of her water magic to cut through the two massive arms of the mist bound behemoth-
Bang! Bang!
Succeeding where the SS Rank Adventurer had failed, as the two arm were cut off and fell to the ground alongside the massive lumps of flesh at the end. The severe weakening from the dark magic earlier having weakened the resistance of the mist bound behemoth to the point where the two arms that had once been impossible for an SS Rank Adventurer to cut through, had been easily cut through by Scaly with relatively little effort using her water magic.
Roooar-!?
Not too surprisingly, the mist bound behemoth let out a pained and reluctant roaring sound as it attempted to use its thick skull to attack her after losing what could be considered its strongest weapons.
Unfortunately, no matter how hard its head was, it didn’t change the bad situation that the mist bound behemoth had found itself in-
Swish!
Ptsh-!

As only a few seconds after losing its arms, another water blade smoothly descended from above. Cutting through its neck in one clean motion without encountering much resistance in the process thanks to the countless stacking weakening effects that had been placed on top of it by the dark magic from earlier. Allowing Scaly to essentially beat an enemy far above her own level with little to no difficulty.
If anything, the short confrontation had almost made it seem like the mist bound behemoth was weaker that the Elemental Archmage she had been struggling to kill not too long ago.
Hehe~ Five levels from such a short battle.
Not that the dragon involved thought about any of this given how her thoughts were entirely preoccupied with the fact that she had managed to go all the way from level 21 to level 26 in a single battle that had barely taken a few minutes to play out. Requiring little to no effort from her side, as she only needed to fight normally with no special care required.
Of course, though this short confrontation didn’t require her to struggle at all, she also clearly remembered how Verdell had stepped in and lent her a hand in killing the Elemental Archmage. Understanding full well that it might have been impossible for her to kill this powerful adventurer without Verdell stepping in to hold back the SS Rank Adventurer for a few precious seconds. Buying her the little time she needed to break through the mana barrier and successfully kill the Elemental Archmage.
But it wasn’t just that alone, it was also the fact that a potential clash with the SS Rank Adventurer might have resulted in the mist bound behemoth escaping. Meaning that in a way, Verdell had ended up helping her secure the two most precious kills that had ended up allowing her to leap forward three entire levels.
This kind of help alone was more than enough for her to change the way she viewed this little dwarf, as she now genuinely didn’t think about killing this little dwarf for experience even without a quest around to make her think twice about something like that. After all, the experience this little dwarf had helped secure for her on his own made up for whatever little bit of experience she might gain from killing him. More than enough for her to start viewing this little dwarf in a far more friendly light compared to someone who she reluctantly had to drag along to complete a quest helpful in increasing the purity of her dragon blood.
"To think I would end up offending an SS Rank Adventurer to complete my class quest..." Unaware of the fact that his class quest had just taken a major step forward thanks to his earlier action of using his fire magic to lend Scaly a hand in killing the Elemental Archmage, Verdell quietly muttered a few words of regret to himself as he emerged from the grey mist and approached Scaly standing over the mist bound behemoth.
In the process, he couldn’t help glancing over the now dead adventurers on the ground with a growing sense of regret. After all, these people were adventurers just like him and he had essentially ended up teaming up with a monster to kill them, something that would undoubtedly get him criticized by most adventurers out there.
However, though he did feel somewhat regretful, he quickly suppressed this feeling of regret after recalling how he had essentially been chased towards a dead end by other adventurers not that long ago just because he happened to have been seen on top the dragon, they happened to be chasing after.
Not just that, but the class quest he faced also made it clear to him that he didn’t have much of a choice if he wanted to become an S Rank Adventurer himself in the future. All he could do was silently apologize to these fellow adventures who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"Hm? This... Are they really adventurers...?" But as Verdell was silently going over the now dead adventurers, he couldn’t help frowning upon noticing the odd clothing of these adventurers that had been obscured by the grey mist earlier. Noticing almost immediately that the clothing style of every single one of the dead adventurers was a similar black and dreary tone with different kinds of skulls and bone patterns embroidered into the surface of their clothing. Making them look far from friendly.
Not to mention adventurers, these people looked more like cultist from somewhere like the Holy Flower Sect.
Of course, the members of the Holy Flower Sect wouldn’t be dressing themselves up in this kind of manner. Instead, the garb of these dead people reminded Verdell more of another hidden faction on the same level as the Holy Flower Sect, the Eternal Life Sanctum, another evil cult that opposed the Holy Light Church and the Adventurers Guild and was seen as an enemy of the entire world.
The main difference compared to the Holy Flower Sect being that the Eternal Life Sanctum was made up of a group of powerful necromancers who believed in obtaining eternal life through necromancy by ultimately turning themselves into abominations through research that often involved using living beings and subjecting them to inhuman torture, some more devastating experiments by these lunatics even resulting in entire kingdoms or empire being wiped out and turned into places where only the living dead, skeleton and zombies, were left wandering around.
Not to say all necromancers were bad, but at the very least, the bad reputation that necromancers generally found themselves enjoying was due to the existence of the Eternal Life Sanctum that had essentially made most powers hesitant when it came to nurturing necromancers of their own. Fearing that these necromancers might end up going down the same path as the necromancers of the Eternal Life Sanctum in the future...
All that aside, Verdell who should have felt better knowing that the people who had been killed by Scaly weren’t adventurers from the Adventurer Guild, didn’t feel the slightest bit better upon learning that these people might belong to the Eternal Life Sanctum. After all, the involvement of such a terrifying force on the same level as the Holy Flower Sect wasn’t anything good.
At the same time, the realization that these people were from the Eternal Life Sanctum made him recall the abnormality that had swept through the swirling sands dungeon not too long ago and had ultimately been the main reason why he and Scaly had ended up on this unknown dungeon floor.
Even if there was no proof these people from the Eternal Life Sanctum had something to do with the abnormalities of the swirling sands dungeon, Verdell firmly believed they did after confirming that these dead people did indeed belong to the Eternal Life Sanctum.
Not just because of their reputation when it came to conducting all sorts of crazy experiments that did of course involve dungeons, but also because he recalled a small piece of news he had heard a few months earlier within the dreamscape from an adventurer that had just arrived from Temple Guard City. The news in question being that a necromancer from the Eternal Life Sanctum had been caught by an inquisitor belonging to the Holy Light Church trying to enter Temple Guard City.
Although this wasn’t considered that surprising news back then due to how the Eternal Life Sanctum operated and the weaker necromancers that were part of the sanctum often setting out on their to conduct independent experiments, it was now clear that the necromancer that had been caught back then should have been part of a larger experiment centered around the swirling sands dungeon...
