Reincarnated as a Lizard
Chapter 461: So many... Sheep...
The entire situation left him far more disturbed than he would like to admit, as during the next few minutes after the death of the long-necked mist sheep, he made sure to keep an eye out for any abnormalities. All the while, Scaly was just walking behind him with a curious look on her face. Wondering why Verdell had suddenly slowed down and became so serious all of a sudden.
Still, trusting he had a reason for what he was doing, she guessed he might have sensed some powerful monster that she herself hadn’t been able to sense, something that only made her more excited. Wondering if this powerful monster was at the same level as the mist bound behemoth and if it might be possible for the two of them to take on this powerful monster Verdell had sensed.
No matter what it was, it made Scaly forget the fact that she had given up on hunting down the large number of wild grey sun cows she had seen before ambushing the group from the Eternal Life Sanctum and the mist bound behemoth. Instead, causing her to entirely focus on the mist that had grown thick enough that she could barely see Verdell walking a few meters in front of her.
Luckily, she wasn’t entirely without monsters to hunt down along the way, as long-necked mist sheep appeared from time to time. Presenting themselves to her without offering any resistance as she cut them down with ease. The most damage one of these sheep managed to cause was when one of them came running out of the mist and collided head on with Verdell before falling down a nearby hill where it ended up breaking its neck and dying. Injuring Verdell while at the same time not giving her any experience in the process.
Maybe not that surprising, after being tackled by one of the long-necked mist sheep and almost losing his life in the process, Verdell retreated up onto her back for safety.
Given the fact that she was worried about him being run over by a passing long-necked mist sheep given how small he was compared to those reckless mist sheep, she could only agree to this request and allow him onto her back as there was no telling where those reckless sheep might suddenly emerge from.
In the process, she could also ensure that he wouldn’t end up stealing her kill again like he had ended up doing when he was run over.
Along with this new arrangement, the two soon enough resumed their journey through the mist with no clear goal in mind. Finding themselves being harassed by an increasingly large number of long-necked mist sheep over time-
Ptsh!
Baaaaa...

[*Ding* Reached level 27]
Reaching the point where Scaly managed to directly level up from level 26 to level 27 just from killing long-necked mist sheep alone, something she didn’t know how to feel about, as she could only be said to have killed half of the long-necked mist sheep she ended up gaining experience from while the rest died from running into her at high speed or tripping over their legs while running before slamming into her and tumbling down a hill where they ended up breaking their extremely inconvenient long neck in the process.
If she had to say something about these clumsy sheep, it was the fact that their long neck didn’t seem like a benefit at all and more so seemed like the main reason why they were so clumsy and ended up dying in all sorts of ridiculous ways as they couldn’t keep themselves stable when moving around because of their long neck.
The thing was, it wasn’t just her killing these long-necked mist sheep or being the main reason why they ended up accidentally killing themselves, as she encountered an even larger number of dead long-necked mist sheep on the ground while making her way through the thick grey mist, some having died long ago leaving behind only their skeleton.
As for how she recognized those skeletons as belonging to the long-necked mist sheep... Well... Their long neck bones did stand out quite a bit and made it hard to mistake them for other monsters.
If anything the large number of dead long-necked mist sheep and the increasingly large number that still seemed to alive roaming through the thick mist filled with the bones and bodies of their fellow sheep was becoming increasingly odd, as the long-necked mist sheep seemed to be multiplying at a terrifying rate that could keep up with how fast they were dying.
Of course, outside of being a bit odd, she didn’t think too much about it.
On the other hand, Verdell was nowhere near as calm as she was, as he was already growing increasingly panicked seeing the vast quantity of dead long-necked mist sheep along with the seemingly endless number spawning from thin air. Understanding that this was far from natural and didn’t seem to be something related to the dungeon going wild and creating an endless number of these rather useless monsters to defend itself.
Instead, it seemed more like some kind of experiment related to the Eternal Life Sanctum that had ultimately ended up creating something that could spawn forth a large number of these long-necked mist sheep.
Problem was that his knowledge of the Eternal Life Sanctum was scarce and no better than other adventurers at the A Rank. If anything, his knowledge might be worse, as he normally operated in places where the Holy Flower Sect was more present, meaning his knowledge on the Holy Flower Sect was greater compared to his knowledge on the Eternal Life Sanctum.
Still, insufficient as his knowledge on the Eternal Life Sanctum might be, he could at least tell from the increasing number of dead bodies on the ground and the fact that more long-necked mist sheep emerged from the mist to attack them, that they were getting closer to the origin of these long-necked mist sheep.
