Chapter 18: Buffalomate

Caelum entered the tunnel, his blue eyes shining faintly as they helped him navigate through the darkness.

After crawling forward for some time, he finally reached the end.

After digging upward slowly for nearly five minutes, he pushed aside the loose soil and climbed up.

"Woah!" he exclaimed, dusting himself off.

The inside of the room looked ancient, as if nobody had cleaned it for a very long time.

Old lanterns hung along the walls, glowing softly. Strangely, they were functioning without any visible magic stones.

Caelum explored the room for a while but didn’t find anything particularly noteworthy.

There were a few shiny bones scattered around, some skull-shaped ornaments, a large number of books, several treasure chests secured with massive locks, and various weapons placed along the walls.

After a while, he stepped outside the room.

Immediately, he felt a presence coming from another room nearby.

However, he stopped right in front of the door.

Two glowing red magic circles floated across the entrance, forming what looked like an intricate puzzle.

"It’s a magic puzzle," Caelum muttered, his eyes lighting up with excitement.

He began examining the symbols within the circles and carefully rearranging them, trying to decipher the locking mechanism.

The puzzle was based on the flow of mana, acting as a magical lock.

After experimenting for some time, Caelum finally managed to align the symbols correctly.

The magic circles dimmed.

He had solved it.

What Caelum did not know was that if someone failed to solve the puzzle properly, a notification would have immediately been sent to the owner of the magic circle.

But since he had solved it correctly, no such alert was triggered.

However, what he also did not know was that simply arriving here had already activated a detection spell he had never seen before.

Caelum slowly pushed open the door.

The moment it opened, a deep pressure filled the air.

A heavy demonic energy brushed against his body, making the atmosphere feel thick and oppressive.

And then, from somewhere inside the room, a voice arrived.

"HELLO THERE SMALL MATE!"

***

Old Ben looked at the Immortal Count, Seth Annum, who was calmly writing down a famous novel from the past.

The success of the book was piratically, or rather practically guaranteed, just like it had been before.

It was easy money as well.

Though he was a wealthy Count, additional wealth didn’t hurt anyone in particular.

"Sir, the young master is in that room," Old Ben said.

Seth continued writing for a while before finally stopping.

He lifted his gaze and looked toward a particular direction.

"He’s not that weak to be defeated by that buffalo," Seth said calmly.

"That is reassuring sir, but... what about the supply of milk for the young master...?" Old Ben asked, sounding troubled.

That milk was not ordinary milk.

To obtain it, they had kidnapped a powerful demonic creature.

Hearing Old Ben’s concern, Seth paused for a moment.

"We’ll simply summon the demon again," he said casually.

"No matter what, Caelum must receive his daily energy intake."

Old Ben nodded in understanding.

The Immortal Count picked up his pen and resumed writing.

He was, without question, the role model of every person who had ever taken their gym routine seriously.

Powerful demonic energy brushed against Caelum’s small frame, yet he did not look terrified.

His own aura quietly protected him from the oppressive force.

Caelum looked at the figure opposite him.

It resembled a muscular buffalo with magnificently groomed horns and a massive build.

The creature was currently restrained within a complex magic circle.

"A buffalo?" Caelum asked curiously.

"Not just a buffalo, small mate! I am a Buffalomate, and I doubt a little human like you has ever heard of my kind, small mate!" the Buffalomate replied, demonic energy still swirling around him.

"Looking at it, the energy seems quite violent, so this must be demonic energy," Caelum said thoughtfully.

"The library section about Hell is currently restricted by my uncle, so I don’t know much about your species."

"Haha! Small mate, you are quite amusing," the creature laughed.

"I am Tur, a royal Buffalomate!"

His smile looked friendly, but there was something slightly devious about it.

"I am Caelum, son of the Count. Anyway, why are you here?" Caelum asked casually.

"Small mate! You must help me quickly!" Tur said, suddenly looking nervous.

"I was kidnapped by an angelic figure!"

Caelum studied him quietly for a moment.

For demons, angels must be natural enemies, so Tur’s fear seemed reasonable.

’There should be others here too, right?’ Caelum wondered.

After all, he doubted his milk supply had come from a single Buffalomate for five years.

Caelum slowly formed an evil expression that looked rather funny on his small face.

But Tur, being a demonic creature, instantly understood what that expression meant.

"Haha! Of course, small mate. I will give you a great gift," Tur said.

"My strength is sealed right now, so first you should free me by pressing that button over there."

He pointed toward a red button decorated with a buffalo skull.

"Of course! How could I reject the gift of 100 liters of milk from my mate? It’s for the community, of course!" Caelum replied enthusiastically.

Tur froze.

’Isn’t 100 liters a bit too much? That’s nearly three months’ supply for a human child! How greedy can a child be?’ he thought in disbelief.

And on top of that, Caelum didn’t seem intimidated by his massive demonic form at all.

Still, Tur was no stranger to deception.

"Haha! Naturally, small mate," he said smoothly.

"But first, you must press that red button you see there, that one!"

Caelum slowly hovered his hand above the button.

"Tur, my Buffalomate," Caelum said solemnly.

"I will save you from the tricks of that angel!"

His hand descended toward the button.
