Chapter 1445: Royal Court Part 5

The onlookers were shocked to the core by Xu Feng’s not-so-subtle threat.

Not to mention, his indirect accusation that the assassin was sent by someone within the Royal Court to eliminate him.

Although it sounded far-fetched, some people in the crowd weren’t foolish enough to believe this was a mere coincidence.

Of course, even if they had their suspicions, they wouldn’t dare to spout them publicly, lest they might incur some death flags on themselves.

They came here as spectators and to witness the outcome. They didn’t come here to be involved in some big conspiracy or power struggle.

The guards only stared at Xu Feng briefly for his statement.

No words were said, but their eyes alone were quite hostile, to say the least.

Once they exited the premises, Jessica approached him with a frown. "Are you sure it’s fine to threaten them when you nearly lost your life?"

Her frown seemed to be directed at him, but the reality couldn’t be further from the truth. She was extremely displeased and angry with the farce that happened right before her eyes.

How dare these people disregard the laws and attempt to assassinate the most important person in Star Falls City?

They seriously think they were some sort of pushover, right?

"Rest assured, Lin Feng." Jessica hissed in a low tone. "Whoever is behind this assassination... We’ll make sure to repay them dearly."

"Are you sure you want to do that?" Xu Feng asked with a mysterious smile.

When she caught sight of that expression, she had a bad premonition.

For some reason, she felt like he already knew who the culprit was.

But still, to confirm her suspicion, she asked in a very low tone, "You know who’s behind it?"

"Of course, I do." He nodded in response. To pull off such a maneuver, only a few people could do so effortlessly. And out of everyone in the list, only one person would have the motive and even the guts to do so.

Although Jessica didn’t say anything, she also had her suspicions.

Unfortunately, there was no concrete or sufficient evidence to incriminate them.

"Do we need to seek a medic?" Jace finally approached him and asked in concern. Even though there was no physical harm dealt, there could still be some mental trauma.

After all, Xu Feng was ambushed in a place that was meant to be safe and secure.

"I’m fine." Xu Feng rejected the notion. There was no need to seek any medic when he had long detected an assassin hidden among the crowd.

They might have concealed their killing intent well, but their body posture betrayed them.

While everyone was curious about his identity and gossiping among themselves, only the assassin was watching him with an indifferent look.

If that wasn’t suspicious enough, the moment he revealed some flaws for an attack, the assassin quickly reacted. It was just a shame that the flaw vanished in an instant because Xu Feng was merely testing their reaction.

Once he confirmed they were indeed hostile, he purposely waited at the right moment to expose himself to danger.

’Only with a loud scandal could things escalate.’ He mused inwardly. The more scrutiny the incident gained, the harder it was for Duke Marvin and those behind him to incriminate him.

How could they possibly do anything under the eyes of many interested in the case?

Sometime later, the trio proceeded to the interior. And because of the assassination attempt, there were more guards escorting them.

One time was already an embarrassment, but a second time? People would start to suspect whether the Royal Court qualified anymore.

By the time they arrived at a large door, Jace made sure to warn Xu Feng one last time. "Inside is filled with the most influential people. Do be cautious of your speech." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

Jace truly feared that Xu Feng might continue his unruly behavior.

After all, he would be implicated as well for allowing such a thing to happen.

"Relax, I’m not going to do anything silly." Xu Feng smiled lightly.

’He’s going to do it...’ Jessica was prepared for the worst when she saw the same smile he always had when he was ready to mess with someone.

’Forget it, it’s not my problem.’ She shook her head and promptly made her way to the audience stance. Despite having the qualification to enter one of the higher viewing platforms, she chose not to involve herself with other nobles.

Too many nobles had often wanted to extend their claws to the Adventure Guild, but failed miserably.

The Adventure Guild welcomed everyone regardless of their background and status. Of course, criminals were a different story, but it was hard to truly identify any of them if they concealed their actions greatly.

"The accused has arrived!" Shortly after Jessica left their group, a guard announced loudly. They received the signal from Jace.

Sure enough, with the announcement, everyone in the courtroom paused their activities and turned their attention to the center.

"Wow, this is quite the audience." Despite being eyed by so many, Xu Feng held a calm composure. He admired the scenery like he was on a tour or something.

"He’s really taking this easy."

"Is the accused being serious right now? Does he not know the crime he’s being accused of?"

While the spectators in the audience stands were dumbfounded by his commentary, at the high seat, many eyes subtly shifted to an individual.

When the individual got stared at so intensely, they felt quite uncomfortable.

"Why are you all looking at me?" They asked in an annoyed tone.

"You’re the only one close to him, Magnus." One of them said in a deadpan tone.

Indeed, Magnus was seated alongside the many high nobles.

As for the reason?

Xu Feng might have become independent, but his affiliation with Magnus was so clear to everyone that if he didn’t attend, he would become alienated.

Magnus sighed softly when he knew he couldn’t just shrug it off. "Truth be told, I don’t really know him that well either. But his knowledge and insight are something that screamed veteran to me."
