Chapter 1572: Fighting the Worms and Thunderous Birds

When William was close to killing the fourth worm, he heard a loud chirp in the air, something that came abruptly, made the hair on his back stand.

"The birds... Damn! What a timing!" William didn’t hesitate; the moment he recognised the incoming danger, he instantly stopped all the fighting and retreated.

"Retreat, fast! The birds are coming! Activate the traps at once!"

William instantly shouted, forcing everyone around to disengage and start doing the same: retreat.

To activate the traps they prepared for the thunderous birds, they needed to get behind the defensive dome. Once inside, the different masters started to activate the traps, even before the birds would arrive.

William already explained this beforehand. If they waited to see the birds, they would end up long dead before they would sniff a glimpse of the monsters.

These flying monsters didn’t just attack using thunder, they travelled in the air using sound. The speed of sound wasn’t as fast as light or lightning, but it wasn’t slow.

The rule of thumb when dealing with these monsters was to start attacking once you heard their chirping sound.

William watched his masters activate the traps, and then lots of lightning and fire emitted from the traps, rising high in the sky. The lightning and fire were the best elements to handle flying monsters, as they would burn their feathers and wings, ending their flying advantage and grounding the monsters.

William planned earlier for the traps to ground the birds, then his masters would attack and kill them. The birds were strong monsters, but once they lost their flying advantage, they would turn very weak and easy to handle. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

But the situation changed the moment the birds came while the worm king was attacking.

It wasn’t safe to venture outside and attack the two monsters at the same time. Luckily, William was present, so he instantly took out his bow and released a barrage of explosive arrows to kill the birds that fell from the sky.

As for the worms, he knew they couldn’t be left alone for long. Or else they would attack the protective shield and would tear it apart, or at best, weaken it.

Once he launched enough arrows to kill the early birds, William instantly dashed forward. "I’ll leave the task of handling the falling birds to you," he said as he passed by Fang’s side, entrusted the task of handling the thunderous birds to him and his lightning array.

Fang didn’t delay and left the task of activating and controlling the traps to his masters. Then he advanced up front, close enough to spread out his lightning array over a huge area.

And then lightning befell the world.

Previously, when Fang tried to use his lightning array to handle the worms, he failed to leave behind even a deep wound. But when his lightning attacked the fallen birds, they caused deep wounds, gruesome enough to kill a single bird after hitting it with a few lightning strikes.

Seeing this drove more excitement into Fang’s spirit. He instantly widened his lightning attacks, hitting more birds and killing them in batches.

Seeing this while fighting the worms drove a smile over William’s face. "This side has been taken care of," he muttered, before turning towards the worm king and other worms, "now it’s time to handle this side as well."

William was fighting with half focus over the thunderous birds’ side. Seeing how well Fang was doing alongside the traps controlled by his guild masters, he knew the situation had flipped for the better.

So he focused all his attention on the worms, attacking relentlessly and alternatively using his techniques. Like any technique any ascending master had, they were limited by being invented and learned in the lower realm. Their attacks were expected to be weak, and yet their spirit power consumption was also minimal.

That allowed William to widely use his two techniques without any worries. Not to mention, after upgrading his spirit power to the green grade, he now had way more than enough to use his two techniques for long hours without the risk of depleting his spirit power.

As he was the only human fighting the worms now, he became the centre of all the attacks. Luckily, before the thunderous birds would arrive, he and his guild masters managed to kill half of the worms. Not to mention, many worms had lots of wounds, making it easier for him to kill a few of them in the early minutes.

But still handling all of these proved to be quite challenging for him. He had to struggle especially against the worm king and other elites around it, often retreating inside the protection dome to shield himself from deadly attacks.

Soon enough, this situation changed with the joining of many masters from within.

Fang and the other masters couldn’t see how many flying monsters were attacking them. But once Fang showered a wide area under his lightning, everyone got a general overview of how many monsters were up there.

There were around fifty of these birds, and their combined efforts managed to kill more than thirty-five so far.

Once realising this point, Fang decided to send a few masters to support William. Even if he was focusing on dealing with the fallen birds, he kept an eye on William’s side. And the situation there wasn’t that favourable as the fight at his side.

So he decided to send enough masters to make things easier for William. Once the spirit masters joined William, the latter felt the immense pressure on him being relieved.

"You handle the rest of the worms." Once the reinforcements arrived at his side, William instantly gave them their battle orders: "Leave the big worms for me to handle, kill everything else."

Once there were enough masters to keep the worms busy, William started luring the worm king and its elite monsters away from the protective dome.

This wasn’t a problem for William, as he had already landed lots of attacks on the worm king and other elites. They were close to dying, and he just needed to safeguard against their last struggle, so they wouldn’t interrupt or kill any more masters.
