Chapter 112: Chapter 112 - Infiltration(Part 2)

Point-of-View: Argent Stryker

———————————————————————————

"N-no, please wait-...!" My next victim began to beg, before I plunged my blades into his eyes and through to his brain, yanking them out with a sharp twist.

"How many more Nobles are in this establishment right now?" I inquired, as I glanced back at the staff member I’d roped into helping me.

"There are six more...our rooms are soundproofed, so they likely have no idea what’s happening," He replied with a smile.

Yeah, he’d been more than happy to help me, no surprise there. He’s a Commoner living in the capital, working at a brothel where underage children are offered to the customers...he most likely isn’t here by choice.

I can sense everyone in this building with Radar, but I can’t differentiate between which ones are Nobles and which are not, so this is pretty helpful.

"Sounds good, lead the way," I smirked in response.

He nodded and then took me to the next room that was occupied, which I slipped into and shot towards the Noble inside. It was a woman, and there were two young boys laying on the bed, while she was on top of them with a predatory look on her face.

She didn’t even notice me, before I split her skull open with a swift, downward swing of one of my blades, slicing through the top of her head and cutting it in half.

The kids cried out in alarm as they got splattered with blood, before I headed out the room...I feel bad, but I don’t have time to calm every single victim I come across. Also, this is going too slowly, I’ve managed to kill eleven Nobles so far, and I’m betting Izzy’s killed a hell of a lot more than that.

"This is amazing! Who are you, anyway?" The staff member asked me with a gleam in his eyes.

He had a pretty dead look in his eyes when I first encountered him, before his eyes lit up when he saw the corpse of the Noble I’d killed.

"My name’s Argent, and sorry, but I don’t have time to explain more. Take me to the remaining Nobles here quickly," I instructed him.

"Sure, you got it!" He replied with a thumbs up.

Fortunately, most of the remaining Nobles in this building were in rooms that were pretty close to each other, so I managed to cut them down in relatively quick succession.

And once I’d killed the last one, I headed out the building, emerging outside, to see the area completely ablaze. Izzy’s spread out pretty far, I guess I should’ve specified that she should just attack this immediate area.

Oh, well, this works too. The more widespread the destruction, the more the Knights are likely to split up, giving us the option of taking them out, one by one.

I think this much should do...this is a lot more destruction than I’d been picturing, she really went berserk, huh? She didn’t leave anything for me to do out here, there’s no one left alive that I can see of.

Should I head into another building and kill the Nobles in there? No, as I’d just found out in the brothel, that could be a somewhat slow process, and it’s already been several minutes since we began.

The Knights could be here any minute now, I think it’s time we withdrew and hid. Really hope Izzy notices this, she seems pretty engrossed in what she’s doing. Elemental Lightning: Lightning Bolt!

As I fired out the bolt of lightning up into the air, she glanced back, letting out a disappointed sigh before reluctantly flying this way.

"We’re done already? I feel like I was just getting warmed up," She complained as she swooped down and landed beside me.

"Oh, we’re just getting started. This’ll begin for real once the Knights show up," I pointed out in response.

"Hope a lot of them show up, and that at least a few of them are decently strong," She remarked as she cracked her knuckles.

She picked up that habit from me, saw me doing it once and then tried it out herself, liked it, and now cracks her knuckles at least twice a day.

"Let’s hide on one of the rooftops, it’ll give us a good vantage point. We’ll wait until we know which of the Knights is the most high ranking, kill all of them except that one, and then interrogate them," I surmised, as she picked me up by my shoulders and flew us to the top of one of the buildings.

I glanced around to make sure no one was watching us, but based on what I’m sensing with Radar, there’s no one near the entrances of the buildings, they’re all cowering deeper inside.

There’s no doubt that at least one of these establishments have called the Knights, it shouldn’t be much longer before-...ah, there we go, something just entered the range of my Radar, a bunch of people crammed together and moving quickly.

Based on the speed, it’s a large vehicle, maybe a van or a truck? I can sense a total of twelve people...I then closed my eyes and focused. Yeah, it feels like most of them have got metal armor on, it’s definitely the Knights.

"They’re five kilometers away and closing in, fast. They should be here in about ten minutes, at most," I informed Izzy.

"Your sensory ability is really useful, makes it effectively impossible for someone to sneak up on you," She responded, before adding, "What if they check up here before we find out which of them is the highest ranked?"

"Well, in that case, we’ll have no choice but to go on the attack immediately," I replied with a wry smile.

"I’m fine with that," She smiled with an eager look on her face.

Yeah, she enjoys fighting a bit too much, if you ask me. It didn’t seem that way at first, but the more weak opponents she fought, the more she started craving a fight where she actually has a real challenge.

But even Catastrophic Grade Monsters aren’t much of a threat to her, and even I can defeat some of them by myself without much trouble now too. The norm when it comes to Catastrophic Grades is that they require large teams of skilled Adventurers or Knights to take them down, and even Disastrous Grades are rarely taken out by just one person.

It’s very likely that there are some powerful individuals among the Knights, but I doubt there are any who can pose a genuine threat to Izzy. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to be cautious, and being too reckless could prove to be fatal.

"Here they come, they should be here within a couple of minutes," I remarked, as I sensed them less than a kilometer away.

"I think I can hear them," She replied, putting her hands behind her ears and turning in the direction they were coming from.

It wasn’t much longer before the vehicle came into sight, a truck with a closed back. The Knights then emerged from inside the truck, three from the front and nine from the back.

"How awful, what could have done this?" Frowned one of them, a woman who looked about five years older than me, more or less.

"Could it really have been a Monster, as reported, Commander?" Another one responded as they followed behind her while she surveyed the area.

Wait, she’s the Knight Commander? I was expecting an older, rugged-looking man, not a young woman. Well, I suppose that it doesn’t really matter.

"It’s not impossible, but stay vigilant. It might have been an illusion, and multiple people are responsible for this. Be prepared for anything," She replied, before turning around and addressing all the Knights, "Listen up, spread out and search the area!

Question the staff and customers in all the establishments still standing, and look for survivors who need medical attention! Most importantly, no killing anyone, regardless of whether they’re a Commoner or not, our job is to protect the people, is that understood?"

Interesting, a lot of the Knights are looking at her with spite and displeasure in their eyes, it seems like she isn’t well liked among most of her subordinates.

No one voiced any objections, before the Knights scattered and began searching the area, some of them going into the buildings to question the people inside.

"Looks like we’ve got our first target," I muttered, as one of the Knights entered the alley between the building we were on top of and the one next to it, before I added quietly, "We’ll need to take him out quietly though, let’s focus on thinning out their numbers to begin with."

"Okay, leave it to me," Responded Izzy, before slinking over towards the edge overlooking the alley.

She then aimed at the Knight with her finger, pointing it towards him like a gun and forming a small, swirling sphere of Negative Energy, as he approached a pile of garbage at the end of the alley, poking at it with his sword to see if anyone was hiding there.

As Izzy locked on, she compressed the ball of Negative Energy she’d formed before firing it. It shot through the air rapidly and struck the back of the Knight’s head, bursting through it and out his forehead.

He collapsed forward onto the pile of garbage, which muffled the sound of his metal armor. Perfect, no one should’ve noticed that. One down, eleven more to go...
