Chapter 40: Chapter 40 - Disguise

"Um, what are you doing, Larrk?" Inquired Prysm, as she climbed down the cliff and walked over.

"Making it look like this guy did all this by himself," I replied, as I moved the bodies around.

I really hit the jackpot, the bandits were carrying a decent amount of money, but not a whole lot of it. This world doesn’t use any paper currency, only coins.

Which is a pain to carry around, but at least the value will stay uniform. The highest denomination is platinum coins, followed by gold, silver and copper. One copper coin is barely enough to buy anything, a loaf of bread is about two coppers.

One silver is worth ten coppers, one gold is worth five silvers and one platinum is worth ten golds. It took me a while to get used to how the value of currency works in this world, mapping it out with nice, even numbers helped. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

For instance, if I assume the value of one copper coin is a hundred, that would mean, going by that scale, that one platinum coin is worth fifty thousand.

I got a couple of bags filled with various coins from the bandits’ car, but the real jackpot was from the van of the guy they’d been pursuing. It looks like he was transporting a ton of jewelry and cosmetic stuff, he must be a merchant or something. Gotta wonder, why would you do that without any protection?

After all, I just got a bag full of platinum coins from him, why would you carry this much money around? And why would you not use it to hire a bodyguard? Well, whatever, I’m certainly not complaining.

It’s a pretty hefty amount, should cover any expenses for quite a while. I’ll hide it away in my Pocket Dimension, flaunting this much money would only attract attention.

I decided to leave the jewelry, it’d be suspicious if a kid like me showed up trying to sell stuff like this. But I took some of the cosmetics...namely, a couple of wigs, makeup, some hair dye and colored contact lenses. Disguise materials, acquired.

As for what I was doing right now, I was busy arranging this scene so that it looks like the guy from the van killed all these bandits. I was also laying out a trail of blood leading into the woods, so that it looks like one of them got away, which would explain why his money is missing once he wakes up.

Additionally, I was also adding some injuries to the merchant guy’s body, he might find it strange that he’s unscathed after being outnumbered. I had also given his head a good hit, which was swelling up...that should explain why he doesn’t remember killing them.

I also placed a sword that one of the bandits had been carrying into the merchant’s hand, after coating the blade with blood. There, that should do it. It’ll probably be a while before he wakes up, bet he’s gonna be pretty damn confused when he does.

"Okay, I think that’s enough. Let’s go," I remarked, as I used a water Spell to wash off the blood on my hands.

"Oh, okay," Replied Prysm, following after me.

As we made our way towards the town, I took off my top and tossed it back into my Pocket Dimension, before pulling out another one to change into.

I doubt a cut on an outfit would be too eye-catching, but someone might notice the fact that there’s not so much as a scratch on my skin around that spot and get suspicious, might as well quash that possibility right away.

Hm, what should I do about my hair? I took wigs and hair dye because I couldn’t decide which would be better...dyeing my hair would be more effective, wigs carry more risk since they could fall off.

But with dye, I’ll have to keep using it regularly or it’ll show in my roots that it isn’t my natural hair color. At the moment, I’m looking around for a spot that’ll be good for hiding in, so that we can disguise ourselves before we get to town.

Well, I guess it’s not necessary for Prysm to do so, since I’ll be hiding her in my Pocket Dimension. She was the daughter of a Duke, after all, so it’s likely that a lot of Nobles know what she looks like. Plus it won’t be pretty if the people in this town ask to see her Status Bar.

I then spotted a cave up ahead, partially hidden by a row of bushes...I activated Super Hearing to listen and see if there was anything skulking around in there. Hm, I don’t hear anything, good.

"Come on, let’s head in there for a bit," I remarked, as I made my way to the cave.

"Huh? Oh, okay. Why?" Responded Prysm, as she jogged after me.

"I need to disguise myself, just in case," I replied, as I lowered my head and entered the cave.

The ceiling’s kinda low, and it looks like it gets narrower up ahead. Well, it’s fine, it’s good enough. I then activated a Light Attribute Spell and created an orb of light, floating up to the top of the cave and illuminating the area.

"What about me?" Inquired Prysm, as I took out the cosmetics I’d swiped.

"No need. I’ll be hiding you in my Pocket Dimension," I informed her, as I weighed a wig and a bottle of hair dye against each other.

"Uh, do I have to do that? I don’t like that place, it’s so dark and empty," She frowned apprehensively.

"I don’t think you realize your position here. You were a member of a family second to only the Royals in terms of status and influence, and your father often took you to the Knights’ barracks, right? There’s also the fact that you’ve got the Light Attribute, if anyone in town finds out, we’re both screwed," I surmised objectively.

"Well, I guess that makes sense. But still...I don’t want to be cooped up in there for too long," She groaned in dismay.

"Hey, in case you forgot, I’m only letting you tag along grudgingly. If I decide that you’re more trouble than you’re worth, I’ll drop you like a bag of rocks," I warned her dryly.

"Huh? That doesn’t make any sense. Why would you have a bag full of rocks? And if you took the trouble to fill that bag with rocks, why would you drop it? It doesn’t make any-..."

"It’s a figure of speech, it doesn’t need to make sense. Stop annoying me already, I’m trying to figure something out here," I sighed, as I went through several different makeup bottles and containers in bewilderment.

Foundation, concealer, highlighter, primer...what the hell, what’s the difference between all of these!?

"Why do you need makeup?" Prysm asked me curiously, as she peered over my shoulder.

She’s really starting to annoy me...

"I’m trying to figure out what to use to cover my scars up...but I can’t exactly focus if you keep butting in," I muttered, doing my best to keep my cool.

"Do you know how to use makeup?"

"Does it look like I know what I’m doing here?" I sighed in exasperation.

"Well, I know how to apply makeup. All Noble women are taught from a young age how to do so," She informed me.

"Wait, really? I just assumed that your maids or slaves do that," I responded in surprise.

"Oh, no, most Nobles only have them assist when getting dressed. But for makeup, they say that only you yourself should be permitted to do anything to your own face," She explained, as she went through the different types of makeup eagerly.

"That doesn’t really make any sense to me, but it works out in my favor right now, so I’m not gonna question it. Also, you sure seem excited...what, do you enjoy messing around with makeup?" I inquired, as I gestured for her to use it.

"Huh? No, not particularly. I just think it’ll be fun to paint your face," She grinned, looking like she was having fun.

"Let me be clear, I only need to cover my scars. So you better not try anything else, I have no intention of being your doll or whatever," I huffed in response.

"Aw, can’t I just do it a little bit, like add some lipstick and eyeliner, at least?" She implored with a look of disappointment.

"Hell no. I’ll get you a mannequin head or something that you can play with, but leave me out of it," I replied firmly.

"That’s no fun," She grumbled, before she opened up some of the bottles and began applying the contents to my scars.

"How long is this gonna take?" I asked her.

"Not too long. Try not to move...this scar across your eye is gonna be tricky since it goes down through your eyebrow and eyelids, it’ll sting if any gets in your eye," She replied, as she ran a brush over the scar.

I really should’ve healed this scar when I had the chance, I’m seriously regretting my decision to leave it...
