Chapter 65: Chapter 65 - Basilisk(Part 1)

"You sure seem to be in a good mood," Remarked Rosary, as I greeted her. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"Yeah, just had a good afternoon," I grinned in response.

I’m pretty satisfied...I played my fill of the fighting games in the arcade, set some new top score records and then left feeling pretty good about myself.

I really needed that, especially after the less than ideal time I spent on the crane games. I played those kinds of fighting games quite a lot in my old life, it was one of the few hobbies that I didn’t get bored of too easily.

Probably because there were a bunch of different games with that similar style of fighting mechanics and controls, so by regularly switching between them, it didn’t get boring or stale right away.

Little fact about me, when it came to those fighting games, I regularly played multi-player mode online and at one point, I was in the worldwide top five ranked players in all those games, though I never quite made it to first place in any of them.

That was also when my YouTube channel was at its most profitable...unfortunately, eventually, I did get bored of those games and stopped playing them entirely. But since I no longer have ADHD, it’s way easier to focus and maintain interest in something for longer.

Anyway, I was currently at the Guild, here for the quest to eliminate the Basilisk. Of course, I haven’t changed my mind about getting directly involved in that task, I have no intention of joining the fray.

"Glad to hear it. Anyway, these are the Adventurers who will be a part of the quest. These three are Platinum ranked, you’ve already met them," Replied Rosary, gesturing to three of the other Adventurers who were a part of this quest.

Yeah, they look vaguely familiar. Not gonna bother trying to recall their names though.

"Mhm, of course," I nodded, before glancing at the one Adventurer I didn’t recognize.

"As for him, he’s the only other Diamond ranked Adventurer currently in town besides me. Let me introduce my twin brother, Rayven Farndrey," She informed me with a smile.

Huh? Oh, now that she mentions it, he does kinda look like her. In this world, stuff like hair and eye color isn’t heridetary, but it’s not like nothing’s heridetary...for instance, skin color is heridetary.

On that note, discrimination based on skin color is almost nonexistent in this world...which makes sense, they’ve got their hands full with discrimination based on Attribute, social status and race in terms of Demi-Humans.

"Hi, nice to meet you," I said to her brother politely.

"Likewise. I’ve heard a lot about you, I’m looking forward to seeing what you’re capable of," He smiled in response.

His height and face are pretty much identical to Rosary...his hair was a light, sky blue which was grown a bit past his shoulders and tied in a low, loose ponytail, with a few strands falling over his forehead.

He had ashy grey eyes, a small scar on his upper lip and a friendly look on his face. He wore simple dark brown leather armor with gaps around the joints to allow for better agility, along with metal arm guards, knee guards and chest plate.

He had a couple of sleek pistols holstered across each other on his lower back, and he had a confident, self-assured air about him. I suppose that’s to be expected of a Diamond rank.

Speaking of Diamond ranks, I gotta say, I’m really digging Rosary’s outfit. She was wearing spandex-like, full body tight leather armor, with a dark red hue to it.

And above the bodysuit, she had on thigh-high black boots, thin fingerless black gloves and a black sash around her waist, with the tied ends behind her back, looking kinda like two droopy tails.

The bodysuit also had a black hood and the collar, also black, could extend up as a mask to cover the lower half of her face. The collar was slumped around her neck, looking kinda like a turtleneck.

I’m guessing she usually has the hood on and covers her face, but since the Knights forced her to blow her cover, looks like she isn’t bothering with that anymore.

On another related note, she’s definitely using binding on her chest, her boobs look a lot smaller. Her receptionist outfits exposes a little bit of cleavage, and it’s pretty clear that her boobs are real...so she’s for sure binding her chest.

"Alright, we should head out now. We have other Adventurers out dealing with Monsters who’ve appeared in other areas near the town. It’s upto us to handle the Basilisk," She stated with a grimace.

"Yeah, we’re not afraid of some big, dumb snake!"

"Exactly, we’ve faced Monsters of this level before!"

"It’ll be over and done with before we know it!"

Wow, they’re setting up their own death flags pretty unhesitantly, aren’t they? Now I’m starting to get a really bad feeling about this.

"Don’t get complacent or you’ll die," Sighed Rayven in response.

We then headed out the Guild and began making our way to the lake once we left the town, walking along the path in the direction of the lake.

"Isn’t another one of our Diamond ranks coming back in a few days? It might be a bit overkill, but why not wait for him?" Inquired one of the other Adventurers curiously.

"Simple, because when a Basilisk resides in a body of water, it slowly but surely starts to turn the water toxic to suit itself better. If that happens, we’ll lose our main water source for a while, and that will be a disaster," Replied Rosary with a frown.

"O-oh, I see."

"Hm...you seem a bit off, sis. You’re still acting like you do as a receptionist," Remarked Rayven in bemusement.

"Wait, she’s usually different when she’s on duty as an Adventurer?" I chimed in in fascination.

"Uh, this really isn’t important, so-...," She began to try and interject.

"Oh, yeah, like you wouldn’t believe! She usually gets all edgy and throws out these one-liners, she kinda deepens her voice and puts on this cool, calmly confident tone, it’s both cringeworthy and cool at the same time," He laughed in amusement.

Wait, seriously!? I...I wanna see that!

"Wh-wha-...!? That’s enough, just pretend that never happened!" She groaned in dismay, as she planted her hands over his mouth.

Looks like she’s retiring her edgy alter ego and just acting normal now. Too bad.

"Ah, I get it. Now that everyone knows who you are, you’re too embarrassed to act all cool and edgy, that right?" I surmised with a smirk.

"...no comment," She muttered as she averted her gaze.

"Damn, that was actually really cute," Whispered one of the others.

"Nah, it was straight up hot."

"You can say that again."

"Hey, I can hear all of you, you know," She sighed in exasperation.

It hasn’t been a great few days for her, has it? I bet she’s-...hm? I just detected something...I’ve been keeping my Thought Communication active, and...

"I’m sensing a Monster nearby, we should stop," I alerted the others.

"Huh? You do? Where?" Frowned Rosary, her expression changing as she put her guard up as surveyed our surroundings carefully.

"It’s straight in that direction," I informed her...as I pointed straight up at the sky.

"Are you sure? I don’t see anything," Responded Rayven, squinting slightly as he stared up at the sky, his right hand by his side...looks like he’s ready to bring out his Soul Weapon at a moment’s notice.

"That’s fine, I’ll take care of this," I replied, as I manifested my Soul Weapon and pointed it up.

Little more to the left, reduce the angle a bit...alright, I’m locked on! I then stiffened and extended my whip at top speed, and sure enough, I pierced something as my whip extended to about seventy meters, a few drops of blood raining down and splattering the ground.

I then tightened my grip and rapidly swung my whip down, slamming the Monster onto the ground with immense force, its body getting smashed and blood bursting out upon impact.

"That’s...an Aerochamelea," Spoke up Rosary, after a brief silence.

Oh, I’ve heard of that...it’s a weak, low level Monster, resembling a chameleon with bat-like wings where a normal chameleon would have its front legs. It’s also a lot bigger than a regular chameleon, like around the size of a big dog, and a lot more aggressive and carnivorous.

It can, naturally, camouflage itself, to a much more drastic degree than normal chameleons, though if it moves a lot, it’ll start shimmering and become easier to spot.

It’s not very dangerous if you’re capable of defending yourself, but it can kill a human...it’s known for ambushing people uses its tongue and then strangling them to death.

"So...I was under the impression that you had a wide range detection Skill. If I had to guess...," I said to Rosary, before pausing for a moment as I recalled the various detection Skills I’d seen during my reincarnation, and then adding, "The detection Skill you possess is Area Detect, right?"

As I remember it, that Skill has an impressive range of a five hundred meter radius, but the downside is that the radius isn’t a sphere like my Thought Communication, it’s a circle around the user.

In other words, if she activates that Skill, she can’t detect anything or anyone that’s, in terms of latitude, above her head or below her feet, even if they are within five hundreds meters of her.

"H-huh. How did you-...? Ahem, it’s not important," She evaded the question, though pretty much answered my question with that response anyway, before she added, "Anyway, let’s keep going, shall we? It’s not much farther to the lake."
