Chapter 70: Chapter 70 - Departure

"Can’t we buy a bed or anything comfortable to sleep on? We can keep it in your Pocket Dimension and sleep inside there at night, it’ll be easier, more comfortable, and most of all, safer than sleeping outside and taking turns sleeping in shifts," Persuaded Prysm hopefully.

Crap...she’s making some really good points, it’s hard to argue against all that.

"Hm...a bed isn’t necessary, something more portable would be a lot better. We can just buy sleeping bags or cheap mattresses instead," I shrugged in response.

Yeah, I only said that because I didn’t want to fully agree to her suggestion. Petty, I know, but I don’t care.

"H-huh? Uh, I don’t know about a sleeping bag...," She muttered while fidgeting awkwardly, her gaze darting about.

"Hm? What’s wrong with a sleeping bag?" I inquired in confusion.

"Well, I-I mean...it’ll be a tight fit, we’ll be all pressed up against each other," She mumbled as her face turned red.

Ugh, seriously? What is wrong with her? Is she misunderstanding stuff on purpose?

"You little dumbass, what the hell gave you the impression that we’ll be sleeping together? We’ll be in separate sections of the Pocket Dimension, I’ve had enough of sharing a bed in these last few days. Huh, maybe I’ll just buy one for myself, you can just sleep on the floor of my Pocket Dimension," I shrugged dryly.

"Wha-...no, don’t do that! Get me one too, please?" She requested, giving me puppy dog eyes.

"Tell you what, never make that face again, and we’ve got a deal," I replied with a sigh, as I grabbed her left cheek and pulled.

"Ow, that hurtsh...," She mumbled with a pout, before rubbing her cheek as I let go.

"Alright, into the Pocket Dimension you go. I’ll go check out of the inn, buy sleeping bags or mattresses, whichever is cheaper, and then leave. I’ll let you out once I make sure that the coast is clear and we’re well away from the town," I instructed her, as I opened up the portal into my Pocket Dimension.

"I hate that I’m getting used to this," She sighed wistfully, as she reluctantly headed into the portal.

Now, then...time to leave. I have to say, I haven’t had a half-bad time in this town, it’s been a good few days. A lot more productive than I could ever have imagined.

I got to test my strength and see where I stand in this world in terms of power, I met an attractive woman, I successfully completed a quest, I killed some Knights, got the names of the others I need to target, witnessed a Soul Weapon Ascension, got to see it used to kill a couple of rotten Knights and to top it all off, killed a Disastrous Grade Monster.

Yeah, not a bad few days at all, I must say. It’s the 6th of September today, 2013. I arrived here on the 2nd of September, so I’ve been here for less than five days but it’s felt like it’s been a lot longer.

Well, there’s no reason for me to stick around here any longer, it’s time to get a move on. I then made sure I’d packed up all my belongings into my Pocket Dimension, before heading out the inn room for the last time, at least for now.

I’ll probably be back in this town at some point, especially since I can only increase my rank in this Guild. But that most likely won’t be for quite a while, I’ve got a whole lot of ground to cover.

As I headed down the stairs and handed the room key back to the innkeeper, I then left the inn and made my way to a store to buy something to sleep on. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

And it turns out that sleeping bags are actually kinda pricey...the mattresses are way cheaper. So, I bought two mattresses, a nice large, comfy one for myself and the cheapest one in the store for Prysm, naturally.

I also bought some pillows, sheets and blankets...I mean, if I’m going for this, then I might as well go all out. I got paid pretty handsomely for my role in the quest to eliminate the Basilisk, so I’m pretty loaded right now.

Once I put everything I bought into my Pocket Dimension, I decided to head to the Guild and let them know I’m leaving. I mean, I ended up forming a pretty good relationship and impression with them, so I should make sure that stays intact. It’ll be helpful in the future, certainly better than having a bad relationship with them.

It was around midday right now, I’d spent the morning buying canned food and other non-perishables for the road. In about a couple of years, I’ll be eligible to apply for a driving license, I can’t wait to get a vehicle of my own.

Rayven uses a motorcycle to travel, though he has to carry a couple of canisters of fuel since there aren’t exactly any gas stations outside of the towns and some villages.

Traveling by train is basically a non-option for Commoners, ticket prices are exorbitantly expensive. Heck, even the Knights that showed up here came in a van.

And that aside, the layout of the train tracks in this nation of Obsidian doesn’t go through most of the towns and villages. The trains mainly run inside the capital, with a few routes to the borders between the nations surrounding Obsidian, the Labyrinths and the beaches.

You buy the tickets on the train, and if you don’t have enough to pay, you’ll be arrested. There have been cases of Commoners trying to take the train, having enough money for a ticket, but then suddenly being told that the price has drastically increased.

And if they can’t pay the falsely increased price, they’re taken into custody in the capital and enslaved. So, yeah, it’s best for me to just pretend that trains don’t exist.

There used to be busses that travel between villages and towns, but they’re rare now because attacks by bandits were highly common. And it’s not like every single bus can hire several high level Adventurers as bodyguards, mainly because supply wouldn’t be able to meet demand.

That’s why it’s not often that Commoners who aren’t Adventurers travel out of their towns and villages, it’s just not worth the risk.

Anyway, I then arrived at the Guild and headed in, walking over to the reception desk as I spotted Rosary, giving her a wave.

"Yo. Not adventuring today?" I greeted her.

"Oh, hey, Larrk. No, considering how I almost died yesterday, so I’m taking it easy today. Looks like you’re ready to head out," She remarked, as she sorted through some quests.

"Yeah, I’m about to leave, thought I’d drop by the Guild first," I replied, staring at her chest as she stretched up her arms and they jiggled a bit...nice.

"I see. I have to say, you haven’t been here long, but you’ve certainly made quite an impression. It feels like you’ve been here for longer than just four or five days," She smiled in response.

"Aw, you gonna miss me?" I smirked with a raised eyebrow.

"I suppose so, though I certainly won’t miss your sneaky glances at my chest and butt," She remarked with a wry smile.

Oh, she noticed.

"Uh...sorry? But in my defense, they’re like magnets to my eyes," I grinned sheepishly.

"That’s quite the weak defense," She replied dryly, before adding with a slight smile, "Oh, I’m just messing with you, I really don’t mind."

Was I just imagining it, or did she sound kinda flirty? Hm, it was probably more playful teasing than real flirting since I’m way younger than her.

"Huh. Good to know, I’ll keep that in mind. Oh, yeah, where’s Rayven?" I inquired, looking around the Guild.

"Oh, you just missed him, he left on a quest to the Labyrinth near town. He probably won’t be back for several hours at the very least, so yeah," She informed me.

"Ah, that’s too bad. Well, alright, then...I think it’s time I hit the road. It’ll probably be quite a while, but I’ll be back at some point. So...I’ll see you later," I remarked with a smile.

"Yes, I’m looking forward to it. Till next time, then. Take care of yourself, Larrk," She replied with a nod.

With that, I left the Guild, making my way to the east exit of the town. I’ll head back to Marri Town and then make my way to Blont Town, where Rayven met Argent. There could be someone there who can tell me more about Argent and how to find him.

Hope he’s got a phone, it’ll be easy to find him if he does and I get his number from someone who knows it. But first, I’ll need to get to those towns. Well, compared to escaping the capital, it shouldn’t be too tough to get there...
