Chapter 22: What’s with him?

[Note: Don’t blame Abigail if she happens to do something forbidden. This is not Innocent FL romance story. Thank you."

Abigail slowly turned around and looked at Michael as if he had suddenly grown another head.

For a few seconds, she simply stared at him. Then she pointed at herself. "Are you stalking me?"

Michael remained calm. The man didn’t even have the decency to look guilty. Instead, he met her gaze directly without blinking.

He didn’t even deny it or explain himself. The silence alone answered everything.

Abigail’s jaw nearly dropped. "You are actually admitting it?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Michael raised a brow. The expression practically screamed: So what?

Abigail almost lost her mind. "What do you mean so what?!"

Michael slipped both hands into his pockets. "You asked a question."

"And you answered with your face!"

Michael looked down at his short tigress in confusion. " Help me to understand you Abbie..."

Abigail wanted to throw a chair at him.

The worst part was that he looked real serious when he said that. As though gathering information about her life was perfectly normal behavior.

Abigail pinched the bridge of her nose. " You don’t have to understand me, and... i can literally sue you."

Michael nodded. "Okay."

Abigail gritted her teeth "So that’s all?"

Michael shrugged. "If it makes you happy."

Abigail glared at him for a while....Then gave up. This was exactly why arguing with him felt impossible.

He never reacted the way normal humans reacted. She remembered how he had been during their childhood.

The same calm face. The same annoying confidence. The same ability to make her feel like she was overreacting even when she wasn’t.

Abigail finally waved her hand dismissively. "Forget it."

Michael looked like he wanted to say something. Fortunately, she escaped before he could. The elevator ride felt longer than usual.

By the time she reached the company parking lot, her brain was already exhausted. She slid into the backseat of her car and leaned her head against the window.

The city lights passed by quietly outside.

Unfortunately... The silence only gave her more opportunities to think.

And thinking was currently dangerous. Because somehow Henry appeared again. Abigail groaned and covered her face.

Why was she even thinking about him? The man was a walking headache.

A rich and powerful headache. "No." She immediately stopped herself. The driver glanced at the rearview mirror.

Abigail pretended nothing happened. Henry’s masked face appeared in her mind again.

That stupid mask and stupid voice! The way he looked at her as though he already owned everything.

She hated it and yet... Whenever he stood close to her, she became strangely aware of herself.

It was embarrassing. She was Abigail. The woman who built a company from almost nothing. The woman who negotiated million-dollar deals.

Yet one arrogant man appeared and suddenly she couldn’t think properly.

It was ridiculous. Then Michael appeared in her thoughts too.

Abigail groaned louder.

"Miss?"

The driver sounded concerned.

"I’m fine." She definitely wasn’t fine. Dealing with mystery ex boyfriend and terrifying husband wasn’t easy on her first day.

Life was unfair!

By the time the car finally arrived at the Williams residence, Abigail felt mentally drained.

She stepped out of the car and headed inside. The living room lights were still on.

Their voices floated from inside. As soon as she entered, she immediately spotted James.

He was sitting on the couch while several expensive-looking shopping bags surrounded Anna like a protective fortress.

Designer brands.... Luxury accessories. Jewelry boxes. Gift bags. Enough items to make a small store jealous. Anna was happily checking everything one by one.

Abigail wasn’t even surprised anymore. She was too tired to think about that. Without stopping, she headed toward the staircase.

She didn’t have enough energy for family drama tonight.

"Abigail."

She paused. For a moment she thought she had imagined it. James rarely called her first. She slowly turned around.

James had already stood up. His expression remained as unreadable as ever. He walked toward her holding a small blue box.

Compared to the mountain of gifts surrounding Anna, the box looked almost laughably tiny.

James stopped in front of her."This is for you."

Abigail raised a brow. The room suddenly became strangely quiet.

Abigail accepted the box. It was surprisingly light. "Thanks."

That was all she said. Then she turned around and continued upstairs before anyone could start another awkward conversation.

Once inside her room, she immediately locked the door.

The blue box landed on the bed. Then she headed straight for the bathroom.

Ten minutes later, Abigail emerged wearing comfortable home clothes.

Her damp hair rested over her shoulders. For the first time all day, she felt somewhat human again.

She switched off most of the lights and crawled onto the bed. Then her eyes landed on the blue box.

Abigail stared at it....

’ Well...but it felt like it.....’ She frowned thoughtfully.

What exactly had James given her? A bracelet? A watch?

Considering their relationship, all three possibilities felt unlikely.

Curiosity eventually won.

With a sigh, she sat upright. The small box felt lighter than expected.

She carefully lifted the lid.

A ruby necklace rested inside. The deep red gemstone reflected the soft bedroom light beautifully.

Abigail blinked. The necklace looked expensive. For several seconds she simply admired it.

Then she noticed something folded beneath the velvet cushion. "A note?"

She carefully pulled out the paper and frowned. That alone felt strange. James wasn’t exactly the emotional type. She unfolded the paper slowly. The moment her eyes landed on the handwriting, her brows rose.

Then rose higher. A strange expression crossed her face.

For several seconds she simply stared at the words written on the page without moving. Then she looked back at the ruby necklace.

" does it even connect?" she mumbled and glanced at the door. " what’s with him?"

She looked at the note again and sighed deeply. Honestly, she didn’t know if it’s a threat or he just care. she cleaned her throat and decided to read it out, maybe it will help her understand"
