Rejected by the Campus Belle, I Find My True Love
Chapter 529 - 527: As Long as You Can Forget, I’ll Be Your Servant
Cui Hao really couldn’t figure it out. Even if a girl had confessed her feelings to him, he still wouldn’t have been interested in that kind of place.
"If you can’t figure it out, then focus more on your work. Maybe one day it will all make sense."
The pleasant atmosphere was shattered by Xue Yang’s words, and Cui Hao felt like he couldn’t even cry if he wanted to.
"Godfather, you came out so late to help me. Isn’t Godmother angry?"
Xue Yang glanced at him. "Xiao Xi went to Si Wen’s place."
Cui Hao chuckled. "Godfather, since Godmother isn’t home, you must be very lonely, right?"
Xue Yang glanced back at him, and Cui Hao immediately piped up obsequiously, "Godfather, I can just sleep on the couch."
If he went back to school at this hour, he would definitely run into someone he knew. What if they started digging into it... would he have any dignity left?
Xue Yang knew exactly what the boy was thinking. He neither agreed nor refused.
Cui Hao had always been thick-skinned. As long as the other person didn’t vehemently object, he generally took their silence as consent. He immediately followed Xue Yang back to the Tongfang Residential District.
The moment he got inside, he located the sofa, flopped down, and pretended to fall asleep instantly. He was afraid that if he were a second too late, Xue Yang would change his mind and send him back to school.
After the tumultuous night, Xue Yang was tired too. He wasn’t in the mood to deal with Cui Hao, so he simply went to his room to sleep.
When he woke up again, it was already noon.
Cui Hao was woken up by Xue Yang’s foot. To be precise, he was kicked awake.
After waking up and taking in his surroundings, Cui Hao stared blankly for a long time before his brain slowly began to function.
"Godfather... about last night..."
The thought of last night made him want to die. Why couldn’t he have just gotten drunk and woken up with no memory of it?
Xue Yang hadn’t planned on bringing up last night. But since Cui Hao had mentioned it...
Xue Yang folded his arms. "Cui Hao, I never knew you were the type to lose your head over romance."
Cui Hao pressed his palms together with a pious expression. "Godfather, please, I’m begging you, forget about last night. I’ll do anything you ask."
"You really want me to forget?"
"Yes! As long as you can forget, I’ll be your workhorse." Cui Hao raised his right hand as if taking an oath.
Xue Yang gestured for him to move. Cui Hao promptly made room for him to sit down, and then he heard Xue Yang ask, "You know about Yonghui Supermarket, right?"
"Of course. It was quite popular last year, but I think it changed hands this year and the foot traffic plummeted. I heard it was because the supermarket suddenly raised prices and implemented some kind of membership system. Only members were allowed to shop there, and the joining requirements were quite steep, so everyone just stopped going. Godfather, why are you bringing this up all of a sudden?" Cui Hao asked, puzzled.
Based on his understanding of Xue Yang, he wouldn’t mention this without a good reason.
Xue Yang poured himself a glass of water, took a sip, and then dropped a bombshell on Cui Hao. "It’s nothing. I just wanted to tell you that I’ve taken over the supermarket."
Cui Hao’s eyes widened. "Godfather, are you crazy?" he exclaimed, his eyes still wide with astonishment. "We may have money, but we can’t just burn it like this! Are all the contracts signed? Let’s go cancel it right now! Whoever takes over this supermarket now is just a sucker."
With that, he grabbed Xue Yang and started to pull him toward the door.
Xue Yang didn’t budge. "There’s no need to cancel."
"Godfather, I know you’ve made some money, but this supermarket is a real dud. Trust me. I grew up around my old man, so I know a thing or two about business."
"You’ve seemed too idle lately. I’m planning to put you in charge of this supermarket. You have one year to make sure it survives."
Cui Hao understood.
"Godfather, are you trading my life for its? But it’s no use! Even if I gave my life, the supermarket couldn’t be saved! Godfather, I swear I won’t go to that kind of place again. Can’t you punish me some other way? Any other way! As long as it’s not this, I’ll accept anything."
He wasn’t some business prodigy, nor did he have a protagonist’s halo. How could he possibly revive a failing supermarket just by willing it so?
"This is the only option. Either accept it or get lost right now."
"I’ll accept."
What a joke. Where else could he go? Of course it was better to stick by his godfather’s side and ride his coattails.
"Godfather, let me be clear up front: if I can’t turn it around, I’m not paying with my life."
"If you can’t turn it around, you’ll spend the rest of your life with this supermarket."
"That’s harsh!" After a brief moment of psyching himself up, Cui Hao said decisively, "Fine! If I can’t turn it around, I swear I’ll stay away from women for the rest of my life!"
After this series of blows, if he still didn’t grow up, he truly wouldn’t be worthy of calling Xue Yang his brother.
"Good. Starting today, you’re in charge of the supermarket."
So soon? Was it too late to back out? It clearly was.
"Godfather, who do I coordinate with? You have to give me a contact."
"You know the contact."
Hearing this, Cui Hao asked in surprise, "I know them?"
He wracked his brain but couldn’t think of who it could be. "Godfather, who is it?"
"Ming Yue."
Cui Hao was dumbfounded.
"You have Ming Yue’s contact information, right?" Xue Yang asked with a meaningful expression.
Cui Hao immediately puffed out his chest. "Of course I do."
Cui Hao never imagined that Yonghui Supermarket belonged to Ming Yue. Or more accurately, to the Wang Family.
"Godfather, if you manage to make this Wang Family property successful, won’t that be a huge slap in their face?"
The web of relationships in Yancheng was intricate. Although the Wang Family wasn’t in the top three, they were still within the top ten. For Xue Yang to now brazenly take over a Wang Family supermarket... didn’t that signal his intent to conquer Yancheng’s commercial sector? If others found out, would they stand for it? Even with the Lin Corporation as a backer, it would be difficult to withstand the pressure, right?
"It’s just one small supermarket. They won’t lose any sleep over it. Go on and do what you need to do, and do it boldly. I’ve got your back."
"Godfather, hearing you say that sets my mind at ease."
Cui Hao had always been efficient. No sooner had he finished talking with Xue Yang than he called Ming Yue, with the air of someone about to offer a humble apology.
"Ming Yue, it’s me, Cui Hao. You know how my godfather... Xue Yang... took over that supermarket from you? Well, I’ll be in charge of it from now on."
Ming Yue was a little surprised to get Cui Hao’s call, but she quickly put the pieces together. Cui Hao is Xue Yang’s brother, so it isn’t that strange that he would be put in charge. It’s just a pity. I was hoping to spend more time with Xue Yang to see if I could learn anything from him. Now, that idea is down the drain.
"I’m at Yonghui right now. The paperwork is almost finished. If you’re free, come over and we can handle the handover in person."
"Okay, I’m on my way."
