Relentless Pursuit After Divorce
Chapter 2208: Young Love, So Sweet (121)
Laura Jones didn’t notice the sudden change in the atmosphere around her. She focused intently on the cards in front of her and was about to play one when a pair of hands suddenly appeared before her eyes.
Sleek, attractive fingers pressed down on the card she was about to play, and while she was still startled, they picked another card and played it.
A low, magnetic voice resonated in her ear, "Now you’re on the verge of winning."
This voice was so beguiling that it made Laura’s ears itch—it could only be William Wilson.
At this moment, William’s face was very close to hers.
Especially standing behind her as he was, his tall figure seemed to envelop her.
Laura felt her traitorous heart begin to race again.
Her expression remained composed, but only she knew that with William standing behind her, her whole body was stiff.
With great effort, she managed to refocus on the poker game in front of her. She forced a calm tone as she said:
"Seems like I’m on the verge of winning."
Mrs. Taylor initially suspected that Laura was involved with Adam Jones and Elly Campbell, but seeing her nephew now take the initiative to get close to this young woman only confirmed her previous hunch.
Otherwise, her nephew, usually so good at keeping his distance, wouldn’t actively approach an unfamiliar girl.
Mrs. Taylor glanced at William Wilson meaningfully, but said nothing.
At that moment, Emma Williams was almost gnashing her teeth in jealousy.
Since William Wilson’s arrival, although she continued to play poker seriously, her attention had been focused on him.
William had been standing silently behind Laura, observing her cards.
She assumed he was just watching and wouldn’t get involved.
But she never expected, during Laura’s turn, that he would actually step in to teach her how to play.
Watching him stand so close to Laura, in such an intimate and ambiguous pose, made Emma jealous to the core.
Feigning that she had only just seen William, and while he hadn’t even glanced her way, she greeted him:
"Mr. Wilson, I didn’t expect to see you here, what a stroke of luck."
Emma didn’t show too much excitement; she displayed the joy of a fan meeting her idol, while keeping a respectful distance.
The way she presented herself couldn’t be faulted.
William directed his gaze at her, giving a polite but distant nod, "Hello."
Compared to his natural closeness to Laura, his demeanor towards Emma was cold, as if Laura were one of his own, while Emma was just an outsider.
Without a comparison, it was unremarkable, but contrasted this way, the impact on Emma was greater.
Moreover, she felt defeated by a girl who she believed was completely inferior to her, which Emma found hard to accept.
Unable to maintain her previous poise and composure, seeing that William paid her no further attention, she spoke up again:
"Mr. Wilson, I’m Emma Williams. In ’Seeking for the Noble,’ the film you’re shooting next month, I’m playing the third female lead..."
She paused, then with a hint of playfulness, added:
"I’ll be playing your ’white moonlight’ role."
Laura had heard Emma mention this before, and now hearing her discuss it with William again felt inexplicably jarring.
She furrowed her brow quietly, not wanting to hear how William would interact with Emma.
It seemed she had developed a sense of possessiveness, a possessiveness over her idol.
